On the 22nd of December we had a delivery man knock on our door for a parcel for a lady 4 doors away from ours.

I took in the parcel for them and signed for it even though I don't know them.. my thought was that it's a neighbour and possibly a late Christmas present they didn't want to miss.

We attempted delivering the parcel to them every day, twice a day, from the 23rd-30th because they didn't come to collect. On the 2nd of jan we put a note through the door to say the parcel was with us and we attempted many times to deliver it to them.

We still have this parcel!!

Today I saw a lady come out of the house as I happened to be walking down the street to my car. I stopped her and explained we had a parcel for their house and explained the attempted deliveries and note. She laughed and said 'oh I know, thanks. We don't need it now and have had a refund for it' Confused
so then I said to her that it belongs to them and they need to return it if it's not needed. She said while walking away from me 'ha! Well I didn't sign for it' Shock

What do I do with it? Can I now be in trouble for doing what I thought was a good deed for a neighbour?? Sad

Seriously tempted to just leave it at their front door.... but I did sign for it Shock

Ooh, a whats in the box thread. I hope you get to open it

Lovingbenidorm · 19/01/2019 21:46

Oooooooopeeeeeeeeeen the booooooooooooooox

ShesABelter · 19/01/2019 21:49

I'd just love chat Amazon and explain.

ShesABelter · 19/01/2019 21:50

*live chat 😂

But maybe if you give a bit of love chat they will let you keep it!

mineofuselessinformation · 19/01/2019 21:52

Don't open it.
Contact amazon, and have a photo ready of the label in case they ask you to email it.
They will either send you a return label (in which case you can prove that you haven't tampered with the box), or they will tell you to keep it.

Notnownotneverever · 19/01/2019 21:56

Open the box, get contact details for the sending company and contact them to send it back. It's not that complicated. Confused

Scaredofthegym · 19/01/2019 22:03

Lol at steff13

Is it Gwyneth Paltrows HEAD??

Rainatnight · 19/01/2019 22:03

So rude of them. Taking in people's parcels and other people picking them up in a timely fashion and saying thank you is one of the things that keeps the wheels of society turning!

Rainatnight · 19/01/2019 22:04

Grin @ Scared

E20mom · 19/01/2019 22:09

Contact Amazon. It's very likely they'll tell you to keep it. They do that a lot.

babysharkah · 19/01/2019 22:16

Well you have to open it! It'll be tea towels or something and amazon will have written it off.

BeakyPlinder · 19/01/2019 22:24

Open it!

GrandmaJane · 19/01/2019 22:25

It isn’t their problem. You shouldn’t have taken the box in, without previously having made an arrangement with them to do so. They did exactly as I would have done, and contacted the supplier, because they hadn’t received their delivery.
You are at fault, not them. Contact Amazon and say you took in someone’s parcel and now they don’t want it. Amazon might collect it, ask you to leave it at one of their collection points, or tell you to keep it.

Thereafter, butt out of your neighbours’ lives.

Badwifey · 19/01/2019 22:29

Gwyneth Paltrows head Grin

sackrifice · 19/01/2019 22:39

Just open the fucking thing.

If it is something useful, keep it. If not chuck the fucker out.

Fucking hell. Life cannot be this hard surely?

mineofuselessinformation · 19/01/2019 22:46

GrandmaJane - how? OP has made repeated attempts to give them the parcel.
Are you being deliberately naive/aggressive?

Tiredismymiddlename85 · 19/01/2019 22:54

@GrandmaJane Have you ever actually ordered anything from Amazon?!! If you haven't provided a 'safe place' for delivery then they will try and leave it with a neighbour. They then leave a card saying they have left it at number x!

OP - email this address [email protected]

That's the email address I was given yesterday from the live chat to email my issue to.

M0reGinPlease · 19/01/2019 22:54

Amazon won't care.

You're not 'responsible' or accountable in any way.

Leave it on her doorstep and be done with it.

I think you're possibly blowing this out of proportion.

aibutohavethisusername · 19/01/2019 22:57

I’m also curious to hear what is inside.

Almostthere15 · 19/01/2019 23:12

I can see you've built this up in your head and you almost feel like you might get in trouble for having it. So just contact Amazon and tell them you have the parcel and have tried unsuccessfully to deliver it to neighbours (way more times than they would have). I think they will tell you to keep it. And then you can cure your /our curiosity too!

Oopsusernamealreadytaken · 19/01/2019 23:14

I’m in Team Open!

AmericanEskimoDoge · 19/01/2019 23:47

Amazon won't hold you responsible. Under the circumstances, I'd open it, just out of curiosity. Even if you end up sending it back, I can't believe it would create a problem for it to have been opened.

Coppermine · 20/01/2019 00:48

Amazon won't give a shit, your neighbour clearly doesn't give a shit so why should you give a shit?

This. Nobody gives a shit. Except Mumsnet. Everyone on Mumsnet except Grandma Jane wants to know what it is. We give a shit. OPEN IT!!!!

Imknackeredzzz · 20/01/2019 00:51

OP amazon seriously won’t guve a shit I can promise you
