On the 22nd of December we had a delivery man knock on our door for a parcel for a lady 4 doors away from ours.

I took in the parcel for them and signed for it even though I don't know them.. my thought was that it's a neighbour and possibly a late Christmas present they didn't want to miss.

We attempted delivering the parcel to them every day, twice a day, from the 23rd-30th because they didn't come to collect. On the 2nd of jan we put a note through the door to say the parcel was with us and we attempted many times to deliver it to them.

We still have this parcel!!

Today I saw a lady come out of the house as I happened to be walking down the street to my car. I stopped her and explained we had a parcel for their house and explained the attempted deliveries and note. She laughed and said 'oh I know, thanks. We don't need it now and have had a refund for it' Confused
so then I said to her that it belongs to them and they need to return it if it's not needed. She said while walking away from me 'ha! Well I didn't sign for it' Shock

What do I do with it? Can I now be in trouble for doing what I thought was a good deed for a neighbour?? Sad

Seriously tempted to just leave it at their front door.... but I did sign for it Shock

... and don’t sign for any future parcels from this neighbour either!

CandleConcerto · 19/01/2019 20:29

Amazon will tell you to keep the parcel. They always do.

couchparsnip · 19/01/2019 20:29

Amazon might even tell you to dispose of it if its a low cost item. Then you can open it!

LittleMe03 · 19/01/2019 20:30

I've been reluctant to contact anybody before now because I was

  1. Thinking it's not my problem and
  2. Thought it was a genuine mistake and they forgot all about it.

It wasn't until she reminded me today that I signed for it that I realised that actually it was likely my problem Blush

DP thinks we should attempt delivering one last time tomorrow and if they don't answer leave it on their doorstep after taking pictures of the parcel, name, address etc and then forward the pics with an email to amazon explaining the whole situation.

He's not long been in from work so just had chance to speak to him about what happened today.

Oh god, I sooooo want to know what it is!!

TooTrueToBeGood · 19/01/2019 20:32

Just forget about it. You haven't committed any offence legally or morally. Keep it, bin it or give it to a charity shop.

LittleMe03 · 19/01/2019 20:33

Grin if I'm told to dispose of it then I'll definitely open it and hope it's something of value and use to us

I'd speak to Amazon. They sent me a bottle of Joy by Dior perfume instead of the Fitbit Versa I ordered. I took photos of the box and package with label and they re-issued me a Versa and told me to keep the perfume (I offered to send it back).

Fusioluxe · 19/01/2019 20:38

Ring amazon if they often say keep it. Why should cf have the refund and the parcel?

Foodylicious · 19/01/2019 20:38

Wrap in a plastic bag, attempt to deliver o e last time and if the refuse/don't answer just leave it on the doorstep with a simple note inside explaining again that you signed for it and here it is!

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 19/01/2019 20:39

I ordered a book as a Christmas gift from Amazon, the sleeve was slightly creased so I complained and a new one was immediately dispatched free of charge. They told me I could keep the original rather than return it.

I wouldn’t worry about it, she doesn’t want the parcel, Amazon won’t be interested, it’s more trouble to them than it’s worth processing the return.

Onecabbage · 19/01/2019 20:41

Open the parcel. Then decide what you want to do with it, ie bin it, charity shop, keep. You signing for it means bugger all.

Never accept parcels for them again.

GabsAlot · 19/01/2019 20:42

contact amazon dont leave it outside her door they might just say keep t

Nicknacky · 19/01/2019 20:42

Honestly don’t bother wasting your time contacting amazon. Just stick it on their door step and forget about it. It’s not your problem.

PolkaDoting · 19/01/2019 20:43

Just open it.

Aridane · 19/01/2019 20:44

Am I the only one that finds it odd that every day twice a day you went round to try to deliver the parcel?

GoofyIsACow · 19/01/2019 20:45

Definitely not place marking to see what it is...

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 19/01/2019 20:46

You will tell us what’s in the parcel won’t you OP? 😁

GnomeDePlume · 19/01/2019 20:48

We had similar but a delivery from M&S. I contacted M&S to say we had taken in the parcel but that we were unable to deliver it to the correct recipients (address was empty).

M&S were very pleasant about it and eventually told us to keep the parcel. It was a bottle of champagne and a box of chocolates.

SB1013 · 19/01/2019 20:49

You're really worrying for nothing here. If Amazon had proof that you signed for it they wouldn't have refunded her. They aren't interested and neither is the neighbour so just open it! I can't believe you have been stressing for weeks about this

AlexaAmbidextra · 19/01/2019 20:49

I wouldn’t give it to the cheeky cow. She’s had her refund so why should she get the goods too?

Anonalongadingdong123 · 19/01/2019 20:50

If you have the time contact amazon. Only because I know any 'lost' packages get marked against the delivery driver even if they have proof of delivery. One too many missing packages and the poor driver gets the boot when it's fraudulent customers like your neighbour causing the problem!

Butteredghost · 19/01/2019 20:51

I guess it's yours then. It's between her and the company if they gave her a refund without wanting the item back.

Betsy86 · 19/01/2019 20:52

Cant lie im just here as i want to know what’s in the parcel... open it op to be fair you’ve done so much of the legwork you should keep it now....

LittleMe03 · 19/01/2019 20:53

Am I the only one that finds it odd that every day twice a day you went round to try to deliver the parcel?

Yes it probably was. We went out of our way to try and get a parcel to a neighbour when they didn't collect. We are aware that people work different hours and are busy around Christmas time and as both me and DP were not at work during this time had the opportunity to attempt delivery twice a day.. even at different times of the day between the 23rd and 30th.... I did forget to mention thou that we didn't make an attempt on the 25th. Sorry.
