On the 22nd of December we had a delivery man knock on our door for a parcel for a lady 4 doors away from ours.

I took in the parcel for them and signed for it even though I don't know them.. my thought was that it's a neighbour and possibly a late Christmas present they didn't want to miss.

We attempted delivering the parcel to them every day, twice a day, from the 23rd-30th because they didn't come to collect. On the 2nd of jan we put a note through the door to say the parcel was with us and we attempted many times to deliver it to them.

We still have this parcel!!

Today I saw a lady come out of the house as I happened to be walking down the street to my car. I stopped her and explained we had a parcel for their house and explained the attempted deliveries and note. She laughed and said 'oh I know, thanks. We don't need it now and have had a refund for it' Confused
so then I said to her that it belongs to them and they need to return it if it's not needed. She said while walking away from me 'ha! Well I didn't sign for it' Shock

What do I do with it? Can I now be in trouble for doing what I thought was a good deed for a neighbour?? Sad

Seriously tempted to just leave it at their front door.... but I did sign for it Shock

I had a delivery I didn't receive got a refund, then my neighbour brought the parcel round I rang amazon they said the refund had already been processed so I could keep the parcel or bin it

Mummyoflittledragon · 20/01/2019 07:30

Why didn’t you leave her a note before stating you had the parcel? She possibly didn’t realise and is pissed off with you and the driver for not telling her you had it.... despite attempting to deliver it several times. By 2nd jan she will have already asked for a refund... or perhaps she is just lazy and couldn’t be bothered.

Mayrhofen · 20/01/2019 07:38

Remember how little UK corporation tax amazon pay and open the box. Hopefully the contents will be good.

Betsy86 · 20/01/2019 07:39

Is it open yet Grin
Wow grandmajane the fun sponge of the street 😑 bit mean!!
Im always grateful when a neighbour takes my parcel in and i always take them in for people.
My hallway looks like a drop off point sometimes on my day off but all my immediate neighbours are grateful and we all do it for each other.
There was only one house that were annoying with collecting there things but they’ve moved now, the new occupants are part of the parcel gang and parcel harmony is restoredGrin

WhataLovelyPear · 20/01/2019 07:46

I work for an Amazon marketplace seller. If an item costs more to return than the item is worth we tell people to keep it or give it to charity. Unless they've been very rude on the phone - then we demand they send it back Wink.
Also, your concern shows integrity - don't let anyone make you feel bad about that. Contact Amazon and see what they say.

MyOtherProfile · 20/01/2019 07:51

Well done for trying to do the right thing.

I would make sure never to take a parcel in for that house again.

Italia2005 · 20/01/2019 08:10

You don’t need to do anything, it’s not your responsibility so don’t worry.
Amazon will often refund and do not require returning certain items, presumably those which are loss leaders or not worth the costs of processing the logistics of a return. This has happened to my daughter twice as she’s ordered two of a similar (baby related) item for comparison and decided which one to return, she’s had the refund but told not to return it.
The neighbour is rude not to have had the courtesy to let you know or apologise and thank you when you saw her. It’s a reflection of her, not you!
Either bin it or open and use or donate whatever it is and resolve not to sign for any delivery to that address again, but don’t be put off being your usual good neighbour self if deliveries are for any different neighbour.

BeOurGuest · 20/01/2019 08:18

A few years ago amazon sent me an item I had not ordered (and would never order). When I looked it up it was worth £60! I emailed them to ask them what I needed to do as it wasn’t something I ordered. They replied that it wasn’t on the system so I could keep it! I tried to sell it in the end but no takers. Ended up down the charity shop! So I suspect if you email them and explain, they will tell you to keep it.

MardyMavis · 20/01/2019 08:36

You don't sign for amazon though 🤔 they just take a name if you take a parcel in...also everyone saying it's hers keep it etc if the neighbour has claimed a refund then technically that's theft.... as the neighbour would have basically accused you of that anyway to get the refund!

Mumblers · 20/01/2019 08:43

You sound like a lovely neighbour. Her - not so much.

But please, for the love of all things holy - open the box & tell us what it was!

Wasn't the box completely damaged in transit and half open anyway?! 😉😉

Marking place Grin

Xanadu58 · 20/01/2019 09:20

Patiently waiting to find out what's in the box .............

TrickyD · 20/01/2019 09:22

A parcel from Boden was delivered and left on our step, no signature, and not an address I recognised. I rang Boden, told them the delivery address , they told me to leave it on the step and the courier would collect it the next day.. It stayed uncollected on the step for a week. I finally cracked and opened it, skirt and top for a small girl. No good to my DGD, so I took them on holiday and gave them to our room maid who was very pleased.

MaybeMaybeNotJ · 20/01/2019 09:32

☝🏻Just popping this here to see what’s in the box.

ChesterGreySideboard · 20/01/2019 09:36

You could call Amazon but do be aware that they are an utter bunch of cunts and you owe them nothing. This isn’t some lovely local little store where a lost parcel makes a difference, they are a huge company who treat their staff dreadfully and a refund for whatever this is will make bugger all difference to them.

If anyone has done anything wrong it’s her. She knew where the parcel was but decided to pretend she didn’t to get a refund.

Open the box.

TokyoSushi · 20/01/2019 09:39

Is this box still not open?!?!

Banjax · 20/01/2019 09:40

Get off the fence OP and open that box!

Heymummee · 20/01/2019 09:40

What’s in the damn box? The suspense is killing me Grin

Lindtnotlint · 20/01/2019 09:52

Amazon couldn’t care less. No one is going to hunt you down.

Relax. And open it.

katykins85 · 20/01/2019 10:06

Jeez, open the box already!!

TheDogAteMySock · 20/01/2019 10:36

Plenty of time for the op to have live chatted with Amazon and found out what's in the box. How can anything else in her life have more priority than opening the box and letting MN know??? Come on OP....

BlueThesaurusRex · 20/01/2019 10:37

It better not be bloody Boswell in the box Angry

MrsJDornan · 20/01/2019 10:42

Amazon won't care although I can understand why you want to check, wouldn't take anything in for them again and I would open the box Grin

BlueThesaurusRex · 20/01/2019 10:42

That’s it, isn’t it? We’ve been Boswelled.

Who tries twice a day for days to return a package?
Why would someone who’s been given a refund not want to keep the item for free?
