On the 22nd of December we had a delivery man knock on our door for a parcel for a lady 4 doors away from ours.

I took in the parcel for them and signed for it even though I don't know them.. my thought was that it's a neighbour and possibly a late Christmas present they didn't want to miss.

We attempted delivering the parcel to them every day, twice a day, from the 23rd-30th because they didn't come to collect. On the 2nd of jan we put a note through the door to say the parcel was with us and we attempted many times to deliver it to them.

We still have this parcel!!

Today I saw a lady come out of the house as I happened to be walking down the street to my car. I stopped her and explained we had a parcel for their house and explained the attempted deliveries and note. She laughed and said 'oh I know, thanks. We don't need it now and have had a refund for it' Confused
so then I said to her that it belongs to them and they need to return it if it's not needed. She said while walking away from me 'ha! Well I didn't sign for it' Shock

What do I do with it? Can I now be in trouble for doing what I thought was a good deed for a neighbour?? Sad

Seriously tempted to just leave it at their front door.... but I did sign for it Shock

Having read that the driver gets the blame if a parcel is reported as missing, I would definitely contact Amazon.

And cancel the cheque.

doingasurvey · 19/01/2019 21:21

Dont follow your DH’s advice and attempt another delivery, they don’t care and you will look silly.

Just open it or dump it outside their house - no knock no nothing

Tequilamockinbird · 19/01/2019 21:21

not placemarking

ILoveChristmasLights · 19/01/2019 21:25

Definitely don’t give it to her.

Just use the chat on line if you’re that worried about it.

Open it.

lboogy · 19/01/2019 21:26

If you leave it on her doorstep she could argue she never saw it or you never left it there. I'd contact and ask them how to return the package. Your neighbour is a complete cow btw

InAPreviousLife · 19/01/2019 21:27

Don't attempt another delivery because they've already had a refund. Why should they get the item for free.

Contact Amazon or just open the parcel.

AlpacaLypse · 19/01/2019 21:30

If it's true that the delivery drivers will get the blame if too many parcels on their rounds go astray, then definitely contact Amazon and ask their advice.

Although if it's the one who keeps blocking the gate while waltzing around delivering to neighbours even though he can see I'm in the car trying to get out, I'd be delighted if he got a rollicking! Loads of places to park that aren't right in front of the drive.

LegoCardSwapper · 19/01/2019 21:31

You're massively overthinking this. It's not your problem, there are many solutions here, none of which will get you into trouble. Open it/throw it/leave it on her doorstep etc.

LittleMe03 · 19/01/2019 21:32

Not sure why posters think I've been concerned for SO LONG Hmm it was only after speaking to a women from the household today and what she told me that I've had concern.

I am going to either phone amazon, live chat, or email them tomorrow.

I won't be opening the parcel until I've spoken to them.

Open it open it open it

Ariela · 19/01/2019 21:32

What you should do is contact Amazon (email might be good so you have a record), explain it's been delivered to you, the people it's addressed to don't want it, and give your details and ask them to arrange collection at a mutually convenient day/time.

If they don't get in touch/haven't arranged collection and you still have it in 6 months, then legally its becomes yours.

SawnUpLooRoll · 19/01/2019 21:32

Placemarking!

Weebitawks · 19/01/2019 21:33

Throw it over her fence/leave it on her doorstep and be done with it. The amazon police won't come after you

birdiewoof · 19/01/2019 21:34

Maybe it’s condoms and they don’t need them now because she’s pregnant 🤔🤣

Come on people....let’s have some guesses!

tempester28 · 19/01/2019 21:36

I think you will need to open it to get the order number - then you will find that it is an item worth £4.50

dellacucina · 19/01/2019 21:37

Nicknacky
I don't understand how you could not be interested to know what is in the box!

delboysskinandblister · 19/01/2019 21:38

''Open the box, take the money''

There will be a long code on the box you could email Amazon and quote the number. They'll advise.

This is why I never sign for/take a parcel for any neighbour.
Your neighbour is a CF.

Betty777 · 19/01/2019 21:38

This happens constantly in my street - and the drivers often forget to leave a card saying that a neighbour has signed for it.

So yes your neighbour is rude and weird, but she may well not have known for that first 10 days or so (until your note) that it had been delivered - hence that she asked Amazon for a refund (esp if it was from Amazon Prime and/or a Xmas present)

So open it, and if you don't want it donate it to charity shop. Not such a big deal really

(but nice of you to try to get it to her, as my neighbours accepted a package for me then didn't answer the door for 10 days over Christmas so I couldn't get to it)

Purplecatshopaholic · 19/01/2019 21:40

charming neighbour you have. Leave it on her doorstep with a note confirming what you chatted about. Its her issue not yours!

SawnUpLooRoll · 19/01/2019 21:40

My guess is a CD of crap Christmas songs... Grin

SingaSong12 · 19/01/2019 21:41

Contact Amazon. As well as a driver who may be blamed not all Amazon labelled things are from big sellers. Some of the market place sellers are just small/medium sized businesses. I wonder if they get penalised by Amazon if Amazon have to sort disputes? (Don’t know)

SarahET · 19/01/2019 21:42

When I've returned stuff to Amazon they give you 30 days or so to send it back or you don't keep the refund. I really hope she loses it.

I can't believe she was so rude to you OP. Unbelievable! Guess you won't be taking her parcels for her in future.

ChippedVarnish · 19/01/2019 21:43

I hate how much I want to know what’s in the box

candlefloozy · 19/01/2019 21:44

Open it!!!!!!

December2018 · 19/01/2019 21:44

Placemarking... I need to know what's inside 😂
