AIBU?

to think I can't be the only one who is a mess on the school run?

DSD (7) and DS (3 months).

School run I'm about to do this morning (DSD lives 16 miles away so it's a trek at this time when roads are nuts!).

I've got leggings and underwear on I had on yesterday. Still have my pyjama top on under my jumper/coat. Haven't brushed my teeth yet. Etc etc.

Totally exhausted from breastfeeding all night. Found it easier when DS was 0-8 weeks as he slept a lot better. The last month has been HARD!

DH does most of the school runs but he doesn't have to wake up in the night to breastfeed so always has time for a shower and seems really together.

I'm just... a mess when it's my turn!

Anyone else?

I plan on going straight back to bed when I get in as I'm exhausted!

I like to sterilise myself from head to toe 5 times a day whether I have kids to look after or not

I hire a make-up artist when I'm doing the school run.

I wouldn't worry yourself about it. My DS only.goes to school a mile away but I shove on leggings and a hat in the morning to drop him off, I do brush my teeth but I wouldnt panic if I didn't have time. I work evenings so usually dont shower and get properly dressed till the afternoon unless I'm going out somewhere.

Freshen up when you get home or after a nap and give yourself a break.

I didn’t brush my hair but used a hat as it’s freezing where I am, I wouldn’t care about a pj top under a coat, but changing knickers & a teeth brush is on my list of essentials I’m afraid.

I one child who is 10. I pretty much do the school run in gym clothes everyday I don't wash until I get back because I usually run/ workout straight after dropping dd. I tend to be more put together in the afternoons, I'm pretty sure no one cares.

I cannot get over the fact you wear knickers to bed

Millions of women wear knickers to bed. It's not that much of a shocking fact.

I'm just in awe you manage to do a school run at all with a bf baby! Massive respect. I was a riot when mine was bf, if I had to do a school run, it would most certainly have been in my pjs with a coat slung over.

If I am working from home or on a day off I shove on a pair of old leggings, dont bother washing my hair, and dont give a shit. We all do it, just some people dont admit to it on here! Chill - in the scheme of things its not the end of the world! I generally smell of Bakers dog treats anyway....

When ds3 was a tiny baby I was hardly a beautifully dressed and well groomed fashion plate, but at a minimum I would have brushed my teeth and have clean underwear on. To have any hope of ds1 and ds2 being at school on time we had to be at the nearest bus stop by 7.58am, so there was no wiggle room, but I could not have gone out in public without even bothering to brush my teeth. I used to feed ds3, quickly get dressed, tie my sling, stick him in it and then go and get the other dc ready/ brush my teeth/ sometimes even chuck some makeup at my face if I was doing really well with time. The sling was what got me through.

I always feel like the scruffy one aswell in the morning! I usually get up and pull on something warm and comfy, brush teeth and hair, get DS and I breakfast then into his uniform and then we set off.
When I get home I have a shower (unless I did the night before) and put makeup on depending on what I'm doing that day.

When you are feeding extensively through the night, you do what you need to do. It sounds like you have totally got this.

I'm actually in awe that you do the school run and manage French plaits!

I'm at the other end of the spectrum to you with sleepless nights caused by the menopause bitch. If I've had a bad night, i throw jeans & a hoody on over my pj top and put a hat on.

No one has keeled over yet Hmm

I think my bits must be suffocating what with the pants, PJs, onesie and duvet I had on last night (flipping freezing up north at the moment).

Sorry bits that's rank
I have a 5 year old and 3 month old and manage to do my makeup, hair, brush my teeth and put fresh clothes on every morning.
Get up earlier it's rank I would be embarrassed

@paige789 but surely everyone's different, you're baby may give you more night time sleep, so getting up earlier is easier? Whereas OPs baby doesn't sleep so well, so it's not a matter of getting up earlier, it's a matter of grabbing the most sleep she can get from an unsettled baby?

Those of you who managed to get to school in better shape, good for you but read between the lines and see that op has had a tricky morning and there's no sense in critcising her for it

It's really very unpleasant not to change your underwear or brush your teeth. I say this to you gently and with empathy as a breastfeeding mum of 4 (3 of them under 5) you need to figure out a plan. Maybe getting up earlier?

I really don't get the notion that you have to look perfectly polished to do the school run. Is this a side-effect of SM or something? The idea that someone might coordinate an outfit the night before and get up at 5am to look nice for other mothers (for fear of being labelled a scruff) fills me with pity.

I'm usually clean, but never really 'done up'. My nails are nails of someone who works hard! I'm too busy for that pointless shit. I might think differently when the other half runs off with a woman half his age, but for now I couldn't give hoot.

It's the school gates, not an award ceremony. My son will be starting school in September and I'm due my second in April. I'm half tempted to look a mess on purpose as I don't want to get in to the whole cliquey school gate thing anyway (if it is something that really exists and isn't made up in the DM).

Not much sense posting in AIBU to ask if she's the only one who has unbrushed teeth and dirty underwear on when taking her dc to school if only people who will say "yes I would do that/ do do that/ think it's perfectly fine to do that" should answer, though.

I can't sleep without knickers on. Usually it's just knickers, occasionally a top as well. Just conditioning - I can't sleep without an eye mask either.

I change PM to PM, and have an evening shower. There's something about my body temp that means unless I can properly, PROPERLY chill out, my body just sweats, sticks and my super-thick hair never gets fully dry.

If I shower in the morning I've gone to a sweaty muck within an hour, no matter how carefully I dry. With messy, greasy hair too, and a red face (which won't accept make up for a couple of hours after a shower either).

Baby wipes are your friend, I’d feel gross if I left last nights leggings and knickers on so I’d use a baby wipe to freshen up and put clean knickers and leggings or jeans on if I didn’t have time for a quick shower (which realistically only takes 5 minutes anyway). Always brush teeth as I just feel minging if I don’t. It takes just minutes then I don’t feel like such a mess. Dry shampoo is always handy, I make sure I never run out!

I have 2 DC so I do know how hard it is some days. My children are 5 and 3 now, my motto has always been ‘everyone fed and clean.’ That’s always the goal - a quick wash and breakfast on the go if needed! It’s hard having a young baby but it gets easier.

Allfednonedead · 18/01/2019 12:45

My username is my motto. I used to go days without showering when I had to get 3 DC to nursery before going to work, and no one ever noticed. (They really didn’t, I used to ask my DH and one close friend).
Just do what you can to survive this bit, it does get easier.

your bits need to breath at night

Oh for goodness sake. Last I checked my vag wasn’t connected to my lungs.

🤣 so true, I never understand the ‘your fanny needs to breathe’ argument. How much air does one’s minge get when you’re sleeping under a duvet anyway

Well my baby is 6 months old and I have no other children.. I'm still in my pyjamas! So you get a round of applause from me. I'm not always so slovenly but we've been out every day this week so I simply can't be bothered today.

When DH gets home I'll have a bath and put fresh pyjamas on. Making the most of it before work & nursery routines kick in!
