Have you seen the new Gillette advert?

It's in line with the #metoo movement and it's just brilliant.

Reaction online is depressing though. It has pissed Piers Morgan off royally though, so that's excellent. Poor little snowflake. Offended at an advert Grin

The comments on that video show why we have the problems we have. Men don't want to be told you can't abuse and mistreat women. They don't want to know

It's actually kind of bizarre. Why would a non-violent man be offended/angry that a company is trying to promote non-violence?

Fatasfook · 15/01/2019 12:42

The same Gillette that charges more for women’s razors? The pink tax? Don’t get sucked in

Pk37 · 15/01/2019 12:43

I love it !

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 15/01/2019 12:44

Yep, got me on the emotional front too. Bloody excellent ad, well done Gillette!

Also, anything that pisses of Piers Morgan is obviously going to be good - but it really IS good.

I also have 2 boys and I don't subscribe to any of this "boys will be boys" shit; nor will I accept any denigration of women/girls. Husband gets pulled up on it when he says anything out of line as well.

RosemarysBabyDress · 15/01/2019 12:45

The pink tax? Don’t get sucked in
Grin!

Of course it's completely hypocritical, the brand is not interested in the actual message, they are trying to sell their products and they are using the hot topic of the moment. It works, people are talking about Gillette right now, and their sales will do very well.

That said, if you agree with the message, there's nothing wrong in spreading it around. Every little helps...

NoonAim · 15/01/2019 12:46

Brilliant advert - made me emotional too.

WaterlooElephant · 15/01/2019 12:47

I liked it.
Some men on Twitter say it paints most men in a bad light, and they are annoyed by that.
Some men are just annoyed that some behaviours that were permitted for decades are now being called out.
I say, it shines a light. Most of the men I know (and there are plenty, as I work in a male-dominated industry) are good, and kind, and respectful. But some are not. And men and women need to call it out, debate it, and come up with progressive solutions.

ChocolateChipMuffin2016 · 15/01/2019 12:47

I'm glad other people said it made them emotional, I assumed it was pregnancy hormones! I have a little boy and I don't want him to ever thing this boys will be boys/ harassing women in the name of fun is ever ok. I love the ad!

DioneTheDiabolist · 15/01/2019 12:51

I love that Ad. Well done Gillette.

MarshaBradyo · 15/01/2019 12:53

I like it
About time brands focussed on boys like this
It’s a little late after decades of adding to outmoded stereotypes - but at least they’ve switched tack

Helendee · 15/01/2019 12:54

I would be interested to see what kind of hell would have kicked off should the subject had been women and not men. 😃

Helendee · 15/01/2019 12:54

Have been not had been

GabsAlot · 15/01/2019 12:55

its all about marketing very clever-still wont be buying their raxors though

Jackshouse · 15/01/2019 12:55

Of course it a a cynical marketing ploy but their old adverts supported toxic masculinity so I glad they have changed.

I too welled up but put that down to pregnancy hormones.

Are Gillette the same people who charge more products specifically targeted at women?

DH was suprised at the Internet reaction to this, as a women am not.

CallMeSirShotsFired · 15/01/2019 12:55

There are masses of men absolutely frothing on the FB page; but a heartening number of rebuttals and welcomes.

Love this ad. Unfortunately we are still contending with fragile egos so of course it's not going to be to everyone's taste.

CalmDownPacino · 15/01/2019 13:02

I think it is fantastic. I am very pleased to see that they included part of the speech from the lovely Terry Crews.

snowdress · 15/01/2019 13:02

wow

MikeUniformMike · 15/01/2019 13:03

Gillette razors are made of plastic and have metal parts. Are they recyclable? Do people need to shave?

LowbrowVictoriana · 15/01/2019 13:06

Whilst I completely agree with the sentiment of the advert, I can’t help but think that it is a cynical marketing attempt to make them appear more right on

Me too. When I looked the vid of this about 25 minutes ago, a commenter listed a whole load of unethical and unenvironmentally friendly things that Gillette/ Procter and Gamble do/ have done.
That comment has mysteriously disappeared.
Hmm

appless · 15/01/2019 13:08

Disposable razors are crazy really. My OH has an electric shaver and I use an epilator. Both bought about 5 years ago or more for about £50. Even if somebody doesn't give a crap about the environment, I can't understand why they'd spend more on constantly buying more razors (not to mention the associated shaving cream, other 'necessary' products, etc.)

MoreCheeseDear · 15/01/2019 13:10

Love this ad.

Not one fuck given about the plastic and metal.

KatherinaMinola · 15/01/2019 13:10

Well of course it is. How do you think advertising works? Grin

But ads are often a good barometer of the zeitgeist, so I see this as a positive.

derxa · 15/01/2019 13:11

Good publicity stunt for them.
