Have you seen the new Gillette advert?

It's in line with the #metoo movement and it's just brilliant.

Reaction online is depressing though. It has pissed Piers Morgan off royally though, so that's excellent. Poor little snowflake. Offended at an advert Grin

Can we not let MephistophelesApprentice derail this thread please?

Wotev · 15/01/2019 15:06

I've sent the ad to all my male friends asking them what they think of it. They can't make head nor tail of it lol. This is an ad aimed at women.

Drogosnextwife · 15/01/2019 15:06

@gluteustothemaximus

I feared up too. Brilliant ad! Can't see why anyone would be outraged.

Drogosnextwife · 15/01/2019 15:08

Really? They all don't understand what the advert is trying to say at all?

Wotev · 15/01/2019 15:08

There are certain things in there that only a woman would get for e.g. the scene with the man putting his hand on the woman's shoulder in a board meeting saying 'what I think she's trying to say is.........' I've actually had this happen to me.

robininbrum · 15/01/2019 15:08

@MephistophelesApprentice

YEP it was very easy to spot you are a man.

And don't cherry pick bits from my post to suit your agenda. I said

'Unless a man is a pig-headed, misogynistic, lecherous, sexist twat, why on EARTH would be object to this advert?'

YOU ARE offended by it though. So if the cap fits................ Wink

Do you not LIKE the idea of boys being raised to treat women well, and do you not LIKE the idea of calling other men out when they are treating a woman like shit? Seems not!

As I said, if the cap fits...........................

I agree. Ignore that man. (MephistophelesApprentice) He is purposely trying to derail the thread. IGNORE. Hopefully, he will go when he realises his nasty small-minded views are being (rightfully) ignored.

Wotev · 15/01/2019 15:09

One has replied with 'it's about two things' Hmm and another has replied 'I'm sick of being sexually harassed at work too lol'

As I said, the target audience of this ad is women.

lily2403 · 15/01/2019 15:10

i think its brilliant, lessons start at home.

Wotev · 15/01/2019 15:12

Incidentally, the guy who replied about it being about two things is probably more intelligent than I give him credit for. It's about male on male violence and male on women sexual harassment.

MephistophelesApprentice · 15/01/2019 15:12

I don't hate women.

I'm on mumsnet because I'm interested in the perspectives of people who are not like me.

I didn't hide that I was a man.

I was answering the question, not derailing.

I think everyone should be raised to treat others with respect.

I don't think the advert is positive step in that regard.

Wotev · 15/01/2019 15:13

Can we have a vote as to who buys the razors in your household? Is it you as a woman or is it your husband/partner/son?

robininbrum · 15/01/2019 15:14

@MephistophelesApprentice

We

don't

care

what

you

think

Thank u next...........

Wotev · 15/01/2019 15:18

I am the purchaser of razors as it happens! Don't have an other half at the moment. Some guys manage to buy their own lol.
I buy razors for myself and some of their razors are fucking brilliant but prohibitively expensive! But I always liked their adverts. They're as good as Guinness adverts.

Wotev · 15/01/2019 15:21

@MephistophelesApprentice
You do hate women. That's why you're on here.

Drogosnextwife · 15/01/2019 15:22

Your childhood sounds awful, bit you are mistaking having an abusive mother to and advert promoting respectuful attitides to women, and from what I men from what i could see in the ad. This advert is not in anyway saying that children should be physically abused in an attempt to stop them from being misogynistic twats, its saying that as grown men (and women in my opinion) we have a responsibility to change things and to teach children to have respect for everyone, not look down on people, belittle or harass them because of their sex. That ad did not portray every man on the planet as sexual preditor, bully or misogynist. Infact quite to opposite. I think that was the whole point.

MephistophelesApprentice · 15/01/2019 15:23

Is this some sort of meta-humour, where you pretend women are as illogical as sexists say they are?

I'm on here to learn about women to be a better partner and father. Occasionally I post when I might have something relevant to add to the discussion. As a man, against whom this advert was targeted, I feel justified in saying my perspective might be relevant.

MephistophelesApprentice · 15/01/2019 15:25

Sorry, Drogosnextwife that was to Wotev

robininbrum · 15/01/2019 15:27

I still won't buy the razors tbh as they are overpriced // sorry Gillette!

OnlineAlienator · 15/01/2019 15:27

Omg yes!! I agree im immune to marketing BS but this actually made me emotional; what a positive and energising, non patronising ad for men, and so great for their slogan too! Grin

rightreckoner · 15/01/2019 15:27

Ok meph then your learning for today could be not to confuse your abusive mother with all women. Or with feminism. Just as we are always very conscious that although sexual violence is almost exclusively a male crime, most men have nothing to do with it. This ad says that quite clearly - the good men are intervening to do something about it just as in your case it would have been right for a good woman (or man) to intervene to protect you against your abusive mother.

robininbrum · 15/01/2019 15:28

Good post @drogosnextwife !

Wotev · 15/01/2019 15:28

Believe me honey. Your perspective is entirely irrelevant.

robininbrum · 15/01/2019 15:28

Seriously, don't engage.

gluteustothemaximus · 15/01/2019 15:29

Disengage, I repeat, disengage Grin

Drogo I feel that this advert is part of a symphony of modern voices that automatically define men, and male behaviour, as toxic. Which is fair, because a lot it is.

I don't hate women. I hate men who give women a reason to hate men. Fuck every Weinstein and street whistler, they're fucking horrible and I have scars from them too. But when I look at adverts like this I look at them through the lens of sociology and the colours I'm seeing look little different to the horrible 1950s adverts about what it meant to be a good wife. It's one sex enforcing it's norms on the other. Boys SHOULD be boys. Girls SHOULD be girls. People SHOULD be compassionate to others and not seek to restrict their behaviour. I don't think this advert is designed to help men be better. It's to help women who hate men feel good about themselves.
