To kiss my children while they're sleeping

HettySunshine · 13/01/2019 21:19

I'm entirely bemused and fairly certain I am not bu but I just want to see what the consensus is.

I was out with a friend today and we were chatting about our dc and sleep and various things and I mentioned that I always look in on mine before I go to bed to make sure they're still under the covers and to give them a kiss.

My friend looked shocked and said I should never kiss my dc while they're sleeping as they have not consented and I'm undermining there body autonomy.

I was a bitConfused but I just moved the conversation on and didn't mention it again.

Does anyone else think IABU to kiss my sleeping children?

No of course you're not. Friend is a loon.

Disfordarkchocolate · 13/01/2019 21:21

Not at all, perfectly normal if it's something they are comfortable with during the day

Witchofzog · 13/01/2019 21:22

Your friend is an absolute loon. I am shocked she thinks like this to be honest

MistyMinge · 13/01/2019 21:23

Christ on a bike, I've heard it all now. YANBU, however your friend is nuts.

I always check my children before I go to bed and kiss their heads. I can't go to bed until I've done it. I tell them I do it and they like the thought of me doing it and knowing how loved they are. They're 6 and 3.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 13/01/2019 21:23

Oh ffs. I've heard it all now.
I always used to go into dds room and give her kiss before I went into bed. She had the chubbiest cheeks that you just wanted to bite. I could have eat her when she was little, still could to be honest.Grin

Sparklesocks · 13/01/2019 21:23

What a strange thing to say. I wouldn’t worry.

MissMogwai · 13/01/2019 21:23

WTF?! World's gone mad Confused

Thankssomuch · 13/01/2019 21:23

Oh FGS. Of course it isn’t unreasonable.

loubluee · 13/01/2019 21:23

Still do with mine and they are teen and university. Likewise if I go to sleep before them they do it to me. It’s something we’ve all always done as family so don’t seem weird to us (now you have me thinking pmsl)

MrsKCastle · 13/01/2019 21:24

Depends on their age to some extent.

Toddlers - entirely normal
Adult children - you're the weird one!
In between, well, you know your own children well enough to know how they'd feel about it.

HettySunshine · 13/01/2019 21:24

Yes, we all kiss each other often during the day.

Your friend sounds a bit cracked in the head lol 😂

Karenoid · 13/01/2019 21:25

I check on mine but I wouldn't dare kiss them for fear of them waking up 😂

snowybird1 · 13/01/2019 21:25

YWDNBU! Your friend is very odd. Smile

Magicstar1 · 13/01/2019 21:26

She’s mad. Though I still remember waking as a child one night, to see my mother’s face about an inch from mine, about to kiss me goodnight. I screamed the house down with fright Grin

EatShitBoswell · 13/01/2019 21:26

@Karenoid lol 😂😂😂

HettySunshine · 13/01/2019 21:27

Phew. So pleased I'm not alone. They're all under 6 so definitely not adults. Off to kiss them now!

EssentialHummus · 13/01/2019 21:27

I'd love to do this, but TBH I spend so long getting her to sleep that for the rest of the evening I'm scared to even flush the loo for fear of starting her up again. But no, YANBU! I often wish I could give her a last cuddle before bed.

TooGood2BeFalse · 13/01/2019 21:27

Before I got to bed I always check my 2 year olds nappy in case he's done a sneaky poo.

Should I have been waking him up to ask for his consent?

HettySunshine · 13/01/2019 21:27

Thirdhair, why would I make it up?

HettySunshine

I do exactly the same as you OP and mine are 7 and 10. Your friends slightly barmy I think. Hmm

SingingSands · 13/01/2019 21:29

Isn't this absolutely normal?

Does your friend ask her children for permission before she hugs and kisses them?!

TooGood2BeFalse · 13/01/2019 21:29

Oh and I kissed my 62yr old dad on the head the other night as he dozed off on the sofa and I was leaving.

You know yanbu OP.Your friend is a loon!
