Death Penalty for Bellfield

Charlotte48 · 09/01/2019 19:42

Having watched Manhunt about the investigation into the evil paedophile; child killer; woman killer; woman abuser and beater, Levi Bellfield, I was just wondering if, after Brexit, we should restore the death penalty. Surely Bellfield should be executed.

Absolutely not. The death penalty was wrong, we can't reinstate just because some murderers are more abhorrent than others.

ChodeofChodeHall · 09/01/2019 20:28

If there was a referendum tomorrow on bringing back the noose it would be yes : without a doubt.

I love the idea that we will ever be deciding things by national referendum again! Grin

The 80s

He sent a letter recently that tested positive for cocaine and spice so I'm not sure he is having a very hard time in jail no.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 09/01/2019 20:28

Oh get out of here with your logic and common sense.

Sorry Craft. I'll get me coat . . .

Pachyderm1 · 09/01/2019 20:29

Nope. So many reasons not to have the death penalty, the most important being - as ever - that false convictions do happen.

maddiemookins16mum · 09/01/2019 20:31

All these people saying bring back hanging etc, I bet none of you would be able to actually stand there and pull the lever. Think about that.

FedUpMum40 · 09/01/2019 20:32

Not the death penalty no, but I do think life should mean life and not be released until your carried out

Musicforsnorks · 09/01/2019 20:32

This is perfect DMail and daily express fodder Grin

ChodeofChodeHall · 09/01/2019 20:32

They'd be too busy cackling in the audience, selling hot potatoes, stealing kerchiefs, etc...

The80sweregreat · 09/01/2019 20:34

It's an emotive subject and there have been too many mistakes made in the past ; at least if your wrongly convicted you could have justice ( hopefully) if your not around anymore then you can't of course. I guess this is another reason it would never happen.
However, if any of my family were murdered then of course I wouldn't want the person that did it to carry on living and breathing.
It's a subject as diverse as Brexit is.

ReggieKrayDoYouKnowMyName · 09/01/2019 20:34

The idea of the death penalty makes me shudder. I’m not a particularly squeamish or emotional person about a lot of things but this makes me feel sick. The death penalty should never be brought back. It is state sponsored murder, pure and simple. I’m proud to live in a country where there is no fear of an innocent person who has been wrongly convicted dying by mistake.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 09/01/2019 20:36

I disagree with you in principle. However the Death Penalty would just bail the fucker out.
Ideally the dirty beast would have his cock burned off in acid and
The key would be thrown in the ocean and He'd never see the light of day again.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 09/01/2019 20:37

I'd rather he was kept in solitary confinement with no TV, books or anything remotely luxurious for the rest of his miserable life.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 09/01/2019 20:37

Sorry that should have said. I don't disagree with you in principle

brizzledrizzle · 09/01/2019 20:38

Give him a one way ticket to Mars with no space suit when he gets there.

SuziQ10 · 09/01/2019 20:39

Not sure about death sentence.
But don't see why they can't leave them to rot in dark, cold dungeons in chains.
Punish them not just let them sit life out in a cushty prison.

wowfudge · 09/01/2019 20:40

Oh dear god - one person executed in error is one too many and state sponsored murder is a thing of horror, not something to be espoused. But yeah, if we're not in the EU we can bring it back. And to the pp who said a referendum tomorrow would bring it back: we've had one referendum abberation. There won't be another.

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 09/01/2019 20:41

You do realise that the death penalty was abolished in 1965, OP, long before we joined the EU.

Next thing you’ll start telling us how great Brexit is because it will stop all those immigrants from Pakistan and India coming over. Hmm *

  • I have actually heard someone assert this.
DontCallMeCharlotte · 09/01/2019 20:43

If there was a referendum tomorrow on bringing back the noose it would be yes : without a doubt.

Not if this thread is anything to go by. Thank God.

cheesemongery · 09/01/2019 20:44

Just watching episode 3... I had to shut facebook down after a post saying - OMG Manhunt! So many cliffhangers!

It's a fucking true story you twat!

As for the death penalty and EU... see above.

Patroclus · 09/01/2019 20:44

Mate even Russia dont have the death penalty.

Musicforsnorks · 09/01/2019 20:45

I’m reminded of an Express front page headline from around the time of brexit.
They proposed that we begin to start slapping our kids about again as the EU had made us all too soft.

I’m curious about this apparent, anti-progressive stance in the UK in recent years. I wonder how we will view all of this in retrospect.

They do say that insecurity across a culture often creates a more authoritarian, austere, zenophobic world view...
Whatever made us so insecure?

MongerTruffle · 09/01/2019 20:45

The death penalty is prohibited by the European Convention on Human Rights (which has nothing to do with the EU).

Death Penalty for Bellfield
Craft1905 · 09/01/2019 20:46

@northumberlandgal I think people who want the death penalty brought back, as with people who voted so leave the EU because they believe it's responsible for a whole manner of ills that actually are nothing to do with our membership, will never be persuaded that they are wrong. Certainly that's my experience in real life, anyway. There are people out there that believe that Brexit means we can stop brown people coming to this country, and can bring back the death penalty

Head of nail, meet hammer.

And blue passports, don't forget those. Brexit means we can have them back (although we always could have done anyway, but let's not get into that)

Craft1905 · 09/01/2019 20:47

Mate even Russia dont have the death penalty.

Well not in Russia. They do in Salisbury.
