Death Penalty for Bellfield

Charlotte48 · 09/01/2019 19:42

Having watched Manhunt about the investigation into the evil paedophile; child killer; woman killer; woman abuser and beater, Levi Bellfield, I was just wondering if, after Brexit, we should restore the death penalty. Surely Bellfield should be executed.

OP posts:

Tell you what, let's add in shoplifting and speeding just to be on the safe side. And parking on a yellow line, let's include those scumbags too

Don’t be silly.

But that’s what I believe. Murderers and rapists have no place in a civilised society and should be permanently removed.

ChodeofChodeHall · 09/01/2019 20:17

So I guess it's OK for him to have a fun time in jail.

What a curious assertion.

midsomermurderess · 09/01/2019 20:17

You can't retrospectively change someone's punishemnt. On appeal on fixed grounds perhaps, undue leniency say, but you can't simply decide years after the event to execute people. And it's an appalling idea, bringing back the death penality, in any event. And yes, to connect it with Brexit? Moronic.
Depressing shades of the Daily Mail here.

Craft1905 · 09/01/2019 20:17

And as for killing rapists - if they know they will be hanged anyway if caught, wouldn't that be an incentive for them to murder the women they have assaulted, and reduced the chances of being identified?

Oh get out of here with your logic and common sense.

Hang the remainers......I think that's where we're going with this.

viques · 09/01/2019 20:19

Yes, let's bring back the death penalty and put ourselves on the same moral platform as those enlightened nations China,Saudi Arabia,Russia, USA.......

The best punishment for people like Bellfield is deprivation of liberty, for ever.

One of the many problems with the death penalty is that is isn't a deterrent, or even much of a punishment .Another problem is that miscarriages of justice do happen, I don't like judicial murder at the best of times, but when it is judicial murder of innocent people I really don't like it.

HaveAnotherCuppa · 09/01/2019 20:19

Most people who want the death penalty back do not want Sharia Law. (which is very unlikely to ever be in place in the UK anyway).
Sharia Law allows the death penalty.
However, I doubt that they understand that they are actually supporting (a small part o) Sharia Law.

And I do not ever want to live in a Britain that has state-sanctioned murder, thanks.

wombatsears · 09/01/2019 20:19

Wtf has Brexit got to do with it? The death penalty was abolished long before we joined the EU.

Willbeatjanuaryblues · 09/01/2019 20:20

Curious? He has access to drugs.

Forensic science has made incredible gains in past decade.

There are some cases where it is beyond all doubt that someone is a brutal killer.

I used to argue agaisnt death penalty on the one innocent life grounds but now, if we did introduce it.. It would be for people like Fred and Rose West. Ian Brady, Sutcliffe, tobin, and levi.

pigsDOfly · 09/01/2019 20:20

No of course not. No civilised society should have the death penalty.

Can you come back OP and explain your thinking because I'm puzzled as to how you arrive at the idea that Brexit means we, as a society, would suddenly decide it appropriate to condone murder by the state?

BlimeyCalmDown · 09/01/2019 20:20

Hard labour, no sitting in cell watching tv, or enjoying an education

DoneLikeAKipper · 09/01/2019 20:20

Murderers and rapists have no place in a civilised society and should be permanently removed.

To what end? What if they’re innocent? What if they had committed more crimes that they can never be asked about? How would they be sufficiently punished for their crimes if they are removed from life? How would it give any victims of their actions closure - it wouldn’t reverse any horror and now they can’t even suffer for their actions.

Rosehip10 · 09/01/2019 20:21

OP not coming back then?

greendale17 · 09/01/2019 20:21

I think that’s too merciful for him. I want him to suffer.

^This. Death penalty is the easy way out for these people

Craft1905 · 09/01/2019 20:21

But that’s what I believe. Murderers and rapists have no place in a civilised society and should be permanently removed.

Seeing as you're so keen on hanging, explain the logic to me, than a man who rapes a woman should be hanged, but a man who sexually assaults a woman with a broken bottle shouldn't be hanged hanged?

ILoveMaxiBondi · 09/01/2019 20:22

Murderers and rapists have no place in a civilised society and should be permanently removed.

That’s why they’re in prison.

Canibuildasnowman · 09/01/2019 20:22

The death penalty is about revenge not justice.

northumberlandgal · 09/01/2019 20:23

I think people who want the death penalty brought back, as with people who voted so leave the EU because they believe it's responsible for a whole manner of ills that actually are nothing to do with our membership, will never be persuaded that they are wrong. Certainly that's my experience in real life, anyway.
There are people out there that believe that Brexit means we can stop brown people coming to this country, and can bring back the death penalty HmmConfused

The80sweregreat · 09/01/2019 20:24

If there was a referendum tomorrow on bringing back the noose it would be yes : without a doubt.
The arguments for and against are huge of course and nothing is ever black or white , but lots of people would vote for it. I doubt it would ever happen.
Why taxpayers money should be used to keep people such as Bellfield alive is a scandal though. There isn't any other way but it still grates. I just hope he does have a hard time of it in there.
At least killers like Doctor Shipman killed themselves. It's no loss to society.

Sonneedshelp · 09/01/2019 20:24

Brexit = death penalty? As far as I know the death penalty was banned long before the EU!

Are you one of the thick brexiters that were clueless what they voted for or why @Charlotte48

northumberlandgal · 09/01/2019 20:24

Is this a Daily Heil journo thread, I wonder?

Rosehip10 · 09/01/2019 20:24

Yes, and lets bring back caning in school too hey? Hmm

ghostyslovesheets · 09/01/2019 20:25

it would cost 'the taxpayer' a hell of a lot more to murder people

ChodeofChodeHall · 09/01/2019 20:26

Curious? He has access to drugs

Well, of course he does: all prisons have drug problems. I just don't get how you made that strange leap of logic from "I oppose the death penalty" to "I'm glad he is having fun in prison".

Rosehip10 · 09/01/2019 20:26

@The80sweregreat with opinions like that it good we don't often have referendums

sue51 · 09/01/2019 20:27

No. No. No.
