Death Penalty for Bellfield

Charlotte48 · 09/01/2019 19:42

Having watched Manhunt about the investigation into the evil paedophile; child killer; woman killer; woman abuser and beater, Levi Bellfield, I was just wondering if, after Brexit, we should restore the death penalty. Surely Bellfield should be executed.

OP posts:

Is NOT the right thing to do!

Canibuildasnowman · 09/01/2019 19:55

Nope. For all the reasons it should be banned in the countries that have it.

PatPhoenix · 09/01/2019 19:55

Yeah, no.

Isn't the belief in restoring the death penalty vs belief in not restoring the death penalty the closest correlation there is between leave and remain voting? That, or university-level education. Or both. That's the connection, if there is one.

Given the profile of who actually gets the death penalty and who doesn't in countries where it exists, if there were ever a project to protect the metropolitan elite, it's restoring the death penalty.

thecatfromjapan · 09/01/2019 19:55

It's not entirely tenuous.

One of the strongest links predicting Referendum voting intentions was between attitudes such as 'Restore the Death Penalty!' And a Leave vote.

Much of the impetus behind the Leave vote was populist, emotional and not necessarily about the EU.

I'm not entiry surprised to see a thread with a sort of 'My Brexit wish is to bring back hanging' as it's focus.

Bonkers. But ... there you go.

InspectorIkmen · 09/01/2019 19:55

All this does is confirmed my suspicion that so many people voting for Brexit didn’t know what the hell they were doing
This.
And a valuable insight into the mind of those people.

ChodeofChodeHall · 09/01/2019 19:56

Oh, behave. Showing that killing us wrong, by killing someone. You haven't really thought this one through.

Helmetbymidnight · 09/01/2019 19:56

There is a correlation between people who support the death penalty and Brexit.

DoneLikeAKipper · 09/01/2019 19:56

How does someone pay for their horrendous crimes if they cease to exist? I never understand the reasoning for the death penalty, the whole point of a punishment is to make the person pay for their crime in a conscious manner. Can’t do that if they no longer have the functionality to be punished.

thecatfromjapan · 09/01/2019 19:56

@PatPhoenix beat me to it. 🙂

Helmetbymidnight · 09/01/2019 19:56

Or what cat said earlier! Grin

RayRayBidet · 09/01/2019 19:57

No. Never. Ever.

AnyFucker · 09/01/2019 19:57

Give over

Craft1905 · 09/01/2019 19:58

I agree. Rapists and murderers should be hanged.

Ooo, just a few posts in and we've extended the death penalty to rapists. But if we hang rapists, why not those who commit a serious sexual assault. A man sticks his penis in a woman without consent gets hanged, but if he sticks a bottle in against her will he doesn't. That's not fair. So let's hang people for sexual assault too.

But why does it have to be sexual. Surely a woman who's been assaulted can be equally traumatised. So lets include assault. Tell you what, let's add in shoplifting and speeding just to be on the safe side. And parking on a yellow line, let's include those scumbags too.

Hang them all!

ashtrayheart · 09/01/2019 19:58
Hmm
Madders45 · 09/01/2019 19:59

So you voted for Brexit because you wanted to bring back state-sponsored murder?

Right. Did you not realise that we abolished the death penalty in 1965, 8 years before we joined the EEC?

And did you not know that we’ll still be members of the ECHR preventing us from reinstating the death penalty even after Brexit?

Helmetbymidnight · 09/01/2019 20:00

‘Rapists and murderers should be hanged’ is just stupid talk.

TheFaerieQueene · 09/01/2019 20:01

How do you twist capital punishment out of brexit?
Hideous and ridiculous in equal measure.

Madders45 · 09/01/2019 20:01

I’m as Remain as they come, but I’m starting to wonder if some of the posts on here lately have been written by die-hard Remainers trying to discredit Brexiteers.

Because surely no-one could be as stupid, misinformed and frankly callous as the OP?

Or do I have too much faith in the British people?

12fromcold · 09/01/2019 20:02

No! Fgs.

Murder is murder

Helmetbymidnight · 09/01/2019 20:02

Brexiteers love hanging, corporal punishment, blue passports- surely this is no surprise to anyone.

PatPhoenix · 09/01/2019 20:02

Rapists and murderers should be hanged? Quick way to make rape more likely to turn into murder. Quick way to reduce the conviction rate in rape cases even further. Thanks!!

NotANotMan · 09/01/2019 20:02

Obviously not you goady fucker

ToPlanZ · 09/01/2019 20:02

What has Brexit for to do with the death penalty OP??? Lots of people asking how you are linking these two unrelated topics?

Also how would it help to kill Bellfield? Can't undo the rapes and murders, isn't a deterrent, miscarriages of Justice can't be undone. It just serves a base need for vengeance from those baying for blood, and let's face it those wanting to kill are not much better than him are they?

thecatfromjapan · 09/01/2019 20:03

You see, if I we're going to wish on the magical unicorn of Brexit (and, girls and boys, everyone gets to make a magic wish! 🦄🧚‍♀️), I'd wish for something like, oh, I don't know, the world to be made out of chocolate, or something.

But that, right there, probably marks me down as s mom-BeLeaver.

🤷‍♀️

HazelBite · 09/01/2019 20:03

No, did you not see the programme on Ch 5 last night? There is a strong suspicion there are other murders that he committed prior to the ones that he has been convicted of.
The families of any such victims might therefore end up having closure.
