And to be rather upset about it if he is? The new collection features a lot of union jacks and the words "forget staying in" next to a pic of a mac with a wild union flag lining in the catalogue. And have you see the girls union flag dress? Feel I am in receipt of propaganda and where will I shop now?!?!

I just dislike the ugly fashion. I don't care about the political view of some rich fat cat.

Abra1de · 05/01/2019 14:05

He said he voted Remain. This has now been stated three times at least on this thread.

It's kind of irrelevant (for the purposes of this thread) how he (says he) voted.

Willbeatjanuaryblues · 05/01/2019 14:29

Op you sound like a teenager.

A pp poster said why not Burn his catalogues and smash his shop windows and wear a brown shirt to make it more fun.

This ^^. It's macarthy witch hunts. It won't end well. It's showing incredibly barrow thinking on your part op.

Do you have reading comprehension issues? That post was hyperbole by someone who disagrees with people boycotting companies on the grounds of their political views.

No one has (seriously) suggested burning his catalogues - just not spending their hard-earned cash at a business which is using pro-brexit slogans in their marketing materials.

Abra1de · 05/01/2019 14:53

It’s not irrelevant given the thread title!

Mistigri · 05/01/2019 14:56

Fair point!

OP back. This has been a really interesting thread to read! Thanks to the PP who said I sound like a teenager, as someone 30 years older than that I am taking it as a compliment! My mistake was not putting "(lighthearted)" in the title. Boden's mistake was alluding to a very divisive political situation whether intentionally or not. As someone who works in an industry with clients/customers I don't share my political views with them as it's not relevant to the relationship we have. Same with Boden, whatever Johnnie's politics on Brexit it's going to offend many of his customers. It would have been safer for him not to allude to Brexit at all. No doubt his PR team have picked up on this and a marketing lesson has been learnt.

Hmmm possibly poor taste in the timing but union flags and that whole british heritage thing are what brands like Boden and Joules are all about - I have a Joules scarf with a union flag from around 5 years ago and Boden stuff is forever emblazoned with red London buses and all those things.

BishopBrennansArse · 05/01/2019 15:23

Ok well perhaps printing your products with politically contentious material isn't a great business decision?

Pinkruler · 05/01/2019 15:25

I don't really care whether he is a brexiteer or remainer. Wouldn't stop me buying boden - not that I buy much of it. I always thought of Johnnie as a jolly nice chap, but then read an interview of his where he came across as v rightwing- saying he thought he shouldn't pay as much tax as he did.

Shockers · 05/01/2019 18:45

Flippin eck! I’m being inundated with, “Did we catch your eye?” emails after clicking on those links!

twattymctwatterson · 05/01/2019 18:48

ElonMask. In my experience the Union Flag was controversial in the area I live in WAY before the current popularity of the SNP. Although that may be unique to the West of Scotland. There's a sectarian divide where I live and draping yourself in the flag is very much seen as declaring that you're actively picking a side. I'd assume Orange Order member if I saw this. I'm aware that's sad and not reflective of all of British society

Abra1de · 05/01/2019 18:49

Mulberry had better be added to the ban list.

BishopBrennansArse · 05/01/2019 20:54

That's another one I couldn't afford so they'd not get my money anyway 🙄

HopeIsNotAStrategy · 05/01/2019 21:05

Ridiculous.

You live in a democracy. You don’t like it. Shop where you want.

Sorted.

Yawn.
