To think Johnnie (Boden) is a Brexiteer?

And to be rather upset about it if he is? The new collection features a lot of union jacks and the words "forget staying in" next to a pic of a mac with a wild union flag lining in the catalogue. And have you see the girls union flag dress? Feel I am in receipt of propaganda and where will I shop now?!?!

JB said he voted remain, if you read the thread and check on your own from what’s available publicly. His stance after is also available. Doesn’t make jumping on the flag waving wagon at this particular point in time better or the designs more sophisticated.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 04/01/2019 20:18

Most people are apathetic, far more didn't vote than did. Hence leave won. Not because it's the will of the people but because the will of the people is meh.

You can't assume those that didn't vote would have voted remain. You have absolutely no idea how they would have voted unless you have the capacity to mind read.

Leave won because more voted leave than remain

I am a remainer but these sorts of ideas are just lazy.

LadyWithLapdog · 04/01/2019 20:18

PersonaNonGarter you repeat yourself so let me do so as well. It’s what the leavers would have wanted. It’s what the leavers want. Brexiters won, they should get over it.

EffOrf · 04/01/2019 20:19

We don’t know what he voted anyway. I would not be happy if there was a thread titled that I was a brexiteer if I was a remainer or vice versa

MattFreisCheekyDimples · 04/01/2019 20:21

What's wrong with boycotting the businesses of those whose political position you disapprove of? How is that different from economic sanctions imposed on one political regime by another? How much longer do you think apartheid would have flourished without almost the whole world boycotting everything from South Africa's apples to its sportsmen?

surferjet · 04/01/2019 20:23

I’ll never use Pimlico plumbers again.
Didn’t realise they wanted to stop brexit.
Thanks for letting me know!

EffOrf · 04/01/2019 20:23

People should check their facts though before boycotting

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 04/01/2019 20:24

Fine as long as you actually know what their position is.

There is a lot of nastiness and unfounded vitriol on this thread towards a business and CEO and assumptions on how they voted.

PersonaNonGarter · 04/01/2019 20:29

Complete lack of self-awareness and ownership of division on this thread.

And no, it is not all someone else’s fault, and no, your spite is not justified.

BishopBrennansArse · 04/01/2019 20:31

@PigletWasPoohsFriend margin is too small to call either way - the apathy annoys me more than the leave vote tbh

BishopBrennansArse · 04/01/2019 20:33

Thanks @LadyWithLapdog I'll order from Stannah

DontMakeMeShushYou · 04/01/2019 20:34

Since his clothes are made in China, I should think the orders are put in 18 months in advance of them going on sale. It’s unlikely that he would have known what the political situation would have been 18 months ago.

Given that Article 50 was triggered on 29th March 2017, at which point everyone knew we would be leaving on 29th March 2019, I would imagine that he absolutely did know what the political situation would be this Spring.

BishopBrennansArse · 04/01/2019 20:35

Generally I do, eff. Being as the only Boden I've ever been able to afford is that which is second hand on eBay I'll not bother.

The companies I do actively boycott I always know my facts on.

Bowchicawowow · 04/01/2019 20:37

I am laughing at the idea of people who don’t have a need for a stairlift ordering one because of Stannah’s political views.

Helmetbymidnight · 04/01/2019 20:46

I’ll have three stannahs please Grin

BishopBrennansArse · 04/01/2019 20:51

@Bowchicawowow I do need one, though!
Probably one of their youngest customers...

Mistigri · 04/01/2019 21:12

Fine as long as you actually know what their position is.

I think what the OP was objecting to was the message conveyed by "forget staying in" alongside a bunch of flags. Which in the current climate is quite ... provocative.

I'm hoping that a PR will be along soon to tell us that no reference to Brexit was intended and that Johnnie is a fervent remainer and will be erecting a "bollocks to Brexit" sign on top of Boden HQ, so that I can carry on happily buying Boden petite jeans Grin

Mistigri · 04/01/2019 21:13

The copywriting for the catalogue will be only a few months old though ...

hollyhaphazard · 04/01/2019 22:00

From what I can find he supported remain but believes the vote should be upheld and we should get on with it BUT that's really in poor taste. And he knew what he was doing. It's provocative and uncalled for. If a brand is willing to make a political statement with their clothing then the consumer has every right to react to it....with their wallets. Their women's stuff is shockingly bad but the kids clothes are cute and indestructible. I buy a lot of Boden kids clothes for all 4 of mine but this has made me rethink it. I certainly won't be telling DH who already vetoed a new Dyson!

Excited101 · 05/01/2019 00:07

I genuinely really like them Lady don’t really see them as tacky at all tbh. I do wear a lot of red white and blue through the summer though, it makes up most of my wardrobe. And I nearly bought a union flag maxi dress a number of years ago. I only didn’t because it was too £££ and I was worried I wouldn’t have enough opportunities to wear it.

SwedishEdith · 05/01/2019 00:21

He's always been a Tory nob. And Brexit is about the Tory party's existential crisis. The clothes are boxy frump-city - totally Home Counties Tory wife.

LadyWithLapdog · 05/01/2019 00:29

@Excited101 apologies then, I didn’t mean to be insult you and as I’ve said somewhere above I’d never make anyone feel uncomfortable about their clothes. It’s also obvious then that there’s a market for everything.

Lokisglowstickofdestiny · 05/01/2019 00:48

I'd find it a reasonable argument to boycott him if he was a sole trader, but he must employee a fair number of people - do you know how they voted? It doesn't appear clear from this thread if anyone can categorically say how JB voted, but you are happy to put not only his livelihood at risk but also those of his employees? There's a very good reason not buy the clothes regardless of politics, they're just fugly.

Mistigri · 05/01/2019 07:49

That's an idiotic argument. If I don't buy my jeans from Boden I buy them somewhere else, from another company that also employs people.

Excited101 · 05/01/2019 08:36

Lol it’s alright Lady there’s a lot of things I don’t like too, not everything is for everyone!
