To think Johnnie (Boden) is a Brexiteer?

And to be rather upset about it if he is? The new collection features a lot of union jacks and the words "forget staying in" next to a pic of a mac with a wild union flag lining in the catalogue. And have you see the girls union flag dress? Feel I am in receipt of propaganda and where will I shop now?!?!

Sure Bowchic but I am not often in the position of handing over wads of my money to left wing brexiters (can anyone think of any major businesses run by left wing brexiters? I can't).

Tbh like the PP I'd love someone to come along and tell me that there is no subliminal Brexit message here, because Boden petite jeans are my go to.

EffOrf · 04/01/2019 19:47

Boden has changed their demographic now, for the last few years the style has changed so not for me now anyway. They used to be for older women but I wouldn’t wear the styles they have in John Lewis, I unsubscribed from the catalogue and emails ages ago

SillySallySingsSongs · 04/01/2019 19:47

Same here. Nothing wrong with actively choosing who to give your money to. Anyone paying Dyson or Boden prices has plenty of alternatives.

As long as you check all other retailers, shops, sellers and companies and find out how they all voted. If you don't then it is hypocritical.

MattFreisCheekyDimples · 04/01/2019 19:50

‘An ugly new low’ in politics: Do you have any grasp of history? And a Boden catalogue qualifies?

What I actually said was: I hate Boden clothes anyway, but this is an ugly new low whatever your politics. Meaning an ugly new fashion low... and yes, a Boden catalogue definitely qualifies!

I'm hoping you read the referendum campaign material more carefully, Persona.

LadyWithLapdog · 04/01/2019 19:50

The London imagery was a bit twee but not obnoxious. Didn’t they have some crowns as well last spring? A bit opportunistic around the royal wedding, but that’s what you do as a business, I guess. The union flags are just tacky x1000 and misjudged.

Popandcrackle · 04/01/2019 19:52

They are just awful! Who would buy those.

Bowchicawowow · 04/01/2019 19:52

I was making the broader point Mistrigirl that Brexiteers can be left-wing too. In fact lots of socialists want out of the EU because they say that the EU is a right-wing organisation.

PersonaNonGarter · 04/01/2019 19:52

Posters on this thread are wishing/hoping that businesses go under because the owners of those businesses hold different political views from the posters’ own.

And seem to be justifying it with ‘but I am NICE and they are WRONG’.

No, learn to cope with differing views without wishing harm to the people that hold them (and the successful businesses they run).

Awks · 04/01/2019 19:53

My parents base their whole leave vote argument on the fact that Tim Wetherspoon thinks it's a BRILLIANT idea. I won't show mum that dress, she'd not be able to get her purse out fast enough 😂

Mistigri · 04/01/2019 19:53

Not at all. It's my money and I can choose where to spend it.

There's a big difference in my book between handing money to a company that is promoting Brexit, overtly or subliminally, and one that is just doing its regular business thing and selling me stuff I need without selling me a political message too.

Companies that choose to make it political are taking a risk (of pissing off part of their client base), which is entirely their right - it's not only brexiters that have done this (see: Pimlico Plumbers and also, bizarrely, Stannah).

GoldenSyrupLion · 04/01/2019 19:53

Most people are Brexiteers, apparently. Though you wouldn't think so from reading MN. So it's hardly a surprise.

LadyWithLapdog · 04/01/2019 19:53

BTW I’d think the same about blue & yellow stars clothing. Apart from the Queen, she did it well and I’m not even a monarchist.

ElektraLOL · 04/01/2019 19:55

What a dickhead. No doubt he's rich enough to be immune for the disaster that lies ahead. He's alright jack...

Harebellmeadow · 04/01/2019 19:55

Only read the first three pages but have been stocking up on Boden because of Brexit. I live in Germ. And Boden has enormous European sales via BodenDirect, the German website. Up until a few years ago it was more expensive than the UK website but since then the prices are pegged to the UK ones, pretty much the same stock as on the UK site. Wonder how this will continue post no deal Brexit, but they probably have their supply chain and taxes set up to best advantage.

Helmetbymidnight · 04/01/2019 19:56

Oy yoy! I didn't vote Brexit.

Helmetbymidnight · 04/01/2019 19:57

Awks Grin

BishopBrennansArse · 04/01/2019 19:58

What @Helmetbymidnight said. Those who voted leave are going to be responsible for the entire country going under, after all.

LadyWithLapdog · 04/01/2019 19:59

I didn’t vote leave and I don’t want an economic implosion either. I will spend my £ where I want and some of these choices will be thought through more than others.

BishopBrennansArse · 04/01/2019 20:00

@GoldenSyrupLion that's crap. Most people are apathetic, far more didn't vote than did. Hence leave won. Not because it's the will of the people but because the will of the people is meh.

BishopBrennansArse · 04/01/2019 20:01

@Mistigri which way is Stannah? Need a stairlift and will go elsewhere if necessary.

GoldenSyrupLion · 04/01/2019 20:04

But you can only ever go by who actually voted. 52% voted leave (I voted remain btw).

GoldenSyrupLion · 04/01/2019 20:07

So it's the fault of the remainers who didn't vote, rather than those who voted leave.

EffOrf · 04/01/2019 20:11

We don’t know which way he voted though, only some random on the internet started a thread thinking he may have voted leave, he probably might have voted remain, who knows.

PersonaNonGarter · 04/01/2019 20:14

What @Helmetbymidnight said. Those who voted leave are going to be responsible for the entire country going under, after all.

Is this some kind of moral free pass for those posters who want to hurt businesses on this thread? Because it is just whattaboutery.

It sounded like posters on this thread wanted businesses to be damaged because of the referendum views of the owners.
