To think Johnnie (Boden) is a Brexiteer?

And to be rather upset about it if he is? The new collection features a lot of union jacks and the words "forget staying in" next to a pic of a mac with a wild union flag lining in the catalogue. And have you see the girls union flag dress? Feel I am in receipt of propaganda and where will I shop now?!?!

Those clothes are mega tacky and vomit inducing. Just like Brexit.

Clavinova · 04/01/2019 15:44

To be fair, the whole concept behind Boden is its 'Britishness' - no matter how unappealing the clothes are.

Likewise, my dc have been wearing American 'stars and stripes' from GAP, Levis and Tommy Hilfiger for years.

Are flags a current fashion trend?!

I couldn't care less. I'd be more concerned about Primark and sweat shops overseas.

(And yes Boden may use them too.)

Are you going to boycott any company who voted for Brexit- Sainsbury chiefs, Dyson...just to name two.

LadyWithLapdog · 04/01/2019 15:55

Sainsbury’s stance is different, JinglingHellsBells. I do care where I shop and it sounds like you do too (re Primark). Of course you can’t check every purchase against every environmental or political concern but you can stick to a few.

DorisDances · 04/01/2019 16:03

Was definitely a political message in the recent catalogue. They need to look at their wider business ethics such as sourcing of materials and reduction in quality

Excited101 · 04/01/2019 16:07

I love both union flag dresses...

You shouldn’t go to the Proms if you
have a problem with people in flags...

LadyWithLapdog · 04/01/2019 16:13

Excited101 - would you/child wear those dresses and not be acutely embarrassed? I know taste varies but they are shit.

DollyPomPoms · 04/01/2019 16:22

Boden have always featured Union Jacks in their Sping/Summer collections....it’s not a new thing!

EffOrf · 04/01/2019 16:22

Boden has alway had this sort of stuff, there was lots of London stuff in the past

Canibuildasnowman · 04/01/2019 16:26

YANBU - that’s crass. His business of course and if he’s happy to see customers walk while he gloats that’s his loss. Maybe he’s pissed of that Europeans don’t buy his upper middle class over priced clothes becuase that have their own cheaper and cooler alternatives...

PinkCalluna · 04/01/2019 16:27

What's fascinating to me is how the SNP would I imagine, regard the Union flag as an example of bad and ugly nationalism

I know lots of SNP members, none of them have ever expressed the opinion that the Union flag is “bad and ugly”. Hmm

Those dresses are ugly regardless of your political opinions.

Marylou2 · 04/01/2019 16:33

Wow. What a vitriolic thread. How dare he have a clothing business that pays tax in the UK and a vote. I presume the OP wasn’t with him at the ballot box so is basing the entire thread on a page in a catalogue. Boden have always used British imagery Flag/London Bus/Red Post box to promote their brand. If you don’t like or can’t afford the clothes, don’t buy them.

Canibuildasnowman · 04/01/2019 16:40

Darling I can afford the clothes, I just would waste the money on making my children look like middle aged Stock brokers...

Aeroflotgirl · 04/01/2019 16:43

Oh god, he is entitled to his view, so what, get over it!

Aeroflotgirl · 04/01/2019 16:43

I really think Remoaners are very apt.

XmasPostmanBos · 04/01/2019 16:47

OMG I just wandered into a MN parallel universe where we are all on first name terms with Jonny Boden and he comes to our dinner parties where we debate politics with Kate and William and probably Jamie and Jimmy will do the catering.

Abra1de · 04/01/2019 16:48

Johnnie Boden voted Remain.

LadyWithLapdog · 04/01/2019 16:48

Marylou2 is right about the London buses, bulldogs etc imagery. I don’t know if these had the piss taken out of them. And if not, WHY NOT?

NigelGresley · 04/01/2019 17:20

His clothes are made in China though...

Some are made in the UK, one of very few British brands that actually does still make stuff here!
There is a factory/mill in Leeds where some of the fabric is made.

LadyWithLapdog · 04/01/2019 17:21

I thought they were made in Romania and Turkey.

Theunreasonableone · 04/01/2019 17:41

Presumably you’ll also all be getting rid of your Dysons? Sometimes MN is utterly ridiculous

CruCru · 04/01/2019 17:43

I have no idea how he voted.

Since his clothes are made in China, I should think the orders are put in 18 months in advance of them going on sale. It’s unlikely that he would have known what the political situation would have been 18 months ago.

TheScottishPlay · 04/01/2019 17:44

He doesn't get my saltire pound either anymore.

CruCru · 04/01/2019 17:45

Quite a few of my Boden tops were made in China. I also have a few Boden things that were made in Turkey or Portugal.

BishopBrennansArse · 04/01/2019 17:46

Well it's always been overpriced so I can't boycott something I've never bought, despite me weirdly being on their mailing list.

I do however boycott any other business connected to brexiteers - eg Dyson.
