To ask what you did with your wedding dress?

My wedding dress is just sat in my spare bedroom and it feels so wasteful. (It’s lovely - if I do say so myself and was expensive!)

But I’m not sure what to do with it? What did you do with your wedding dress?

Any ideas?

Gave it to ixfam. It was a high street dress though. About a week after the wedding.

Hermagsjesty · 28/12/2018 09:06

eBay! I’m not very sentimental though and liked the idea of someone who couldn’t afford their dream dress new getting the pleasure of it.

Beautifulseren · 28/12/2018 09:09

I'm sure there is a charity you can send them to who send them to Africa or somewhere ( can't remember) for brides to wear. Also I've seen another charity who remake them into little nighties for still born babies. Sadly can't remember the name of either - can anyone remember please?

grasspigeons · 28/12/2018 09:11

its hanging up taking space. I wish I had sold it within days of the wedding when it was in great condition and in fashion. I couldn't sell it now as fashions change surprisingly fast.

I am vaguely toying with cutting 3 small sections where there were details and putting them in embroidery rings to display but don't want it too look like I have framed a table cloth Grin

its either that, or trying to force it on my future daughter in law and having a huff that she has snubbed my kind offer. Wink

rabbitfoodadvocate · 28/12/2018 09:12

I was going to give mine away but we just found out we are having a girl, so I'm hanging onto it, just in case!

Strugglingtodomybest · 28/12/2018 09:12

I think it's in the attic.

We used these to donate my dress for still born babies.

Other ideas -

One crafty friend of mine made hers into a bedspread. It was really stunning.

Another made parts of it into bed cushions.

I've seen people put the corset section into box frames for display.

Yes, I sent them my one. heavenlygowns.co.uk/

ClashCityRocker · 28/12/2018 09:14

Also, I think you can get some dresses dyed and customised so it can be worn again.

Frouby · 28/12/2018 09:15

Sold mine. I bought it from a local charity shop, absolutely loved it. But it was big and puffy and no way was I having it lying around for years just incase dd wanted it.

If I hadn't sold it was going to take it back to the charity shop. I got £70 for it I think which I used to buy ds his summer clothes.

Youmadorwhat · 28/12/2018 09:15

I have no idea where it is...somewhere in a bag in box in the attic!! 😬 it was a silk jenny Peckham 🙈 I feel so bad now!!

MakeYouSoSureAboutIt · 28/12/2018 09:16

I do like the idea of the nighties for still born babies. Will look into that.

Also, another bride wearing it is a nice idea too. It’s still in style I would say?

Cut it up and made a baptism/christening dress for my dd.

MakeYouSoSureAboutIt · 28/12/2018 09:18

Oooo cutting it up for a christening gown is also an idea I like.

Mines in the loft. It was a one off, designed and made for me. It won’t date as such because it’s loosely based on a Medieval design. I’d love to dye it and wear it to Pagan events but then it’ll stop being my wedding dress iykwim.

TeaAndToastx2 · 28/12/2018 09:19

I think I almost bought this save dress 4 years ago! I love it. My dress is cleaned and boxed up, I should probably have sold it really but I’d had it altered to fit me and wasn’t sure it could be reused easily

CoughLaughFart · 28/12/2018 09:20

My friend is currently looking at wedding dresses and I’d say that style is definitely still popular.

Busybusybust · 28/12/2018 09:20

In the loft since 1976!

londonrach · 28/12/2018 09:20

I gave mine to an young drama group. Its impossible to resell wedding dresses so preferred it to be used.

Cornishmumofone · 28/12/2018 09:23

Mine was a bodice and skirt. I've worn the bodice several times with a patterned mid-calf length skirt that had the same shade of white/cream in it (a ball, college prom when I was a teacher etc).

MakeYouSoSureAboutIt · 28/12/2018 09:23

@Youmadorwhat Grin how do you not know where your dress is?

OP posts:
kaytee87 · 28/12/2018 09:23

Sold it, to a lovely women who came round with her mum and toddler to try it on Smile

Still have my beautiful veil though

TitOfTheIceberg · 28/12/2018 09:24

Mine's in my mum's wardrobe. She's happy to keep it for me (she has more hanging/storage space than we do) and I like knowing that it's still around. It wasn't a meringue so it doesn't take up too much space.

Sounds outrageously narcisstic but I consider my dress to be a work of art and when we get a bigger place I will have it on display on a nice sort of mannequin thing somewhere! Currently it’s just collecting dust at my mother’s and it’s such a waste
