To ask what you did with your wedding dress?

My wedding dress is just sat in my spare bedroom and it feels so wasteful. (It’s lovely - if I do say so myself and was expensive!)

But I’m not sure what to do with it? What did you do with your wedding dress?

Any ideas?

Sold it immediately-having made no adjustments I got 2/3 of what I paid. Helps to be tall sometimes!

boymum9 · 28/12/2018 16:04

Mines stuffed into my MIL spare room cupboard, I should sell it but it needs repairing because got ruined in a mid wedding disaster, I only wore it a couple hours and it was expensive, I have no sentimental feelings towards it whatever. Our wedding day was a wash out unfortunately!!

MrsFoxPlus4 · 28/12/2018 16:06

I had a segment cut up and made into a dress for our daughter to be burried in. My son has a teddy with the same dress on. And I let the dress maker keep the rest because that’s what she done :)

Confused

Mine's stuffed into the box it came in on the day after the wedding 7 years ago in the loft... life went crazy not long after and I never got round to cleaning it or looking at it again.

Neurotrash · 28/12/2018 16:11

Yes mine too crispy, plus I have a 60's manikin... also in the loft. However no space to display!

I'll figure something out some day.

MrsFoxPlus4 · 28/12/2018 16:14

I’d love another dress if we ever renew our vows & to have it framed. But that’s just a dream lol

ErrolTheDragon · 28/12/2018 16:17

Donated to a charity shop - Sue Ryder iirc.

I've only just got around to sending the white satin shoes to charity too - I can't imagine when I thought they'd ever come in handy again.

BloodyBing · 28/12/2018 16:49

Kept mine. It was only cheap from BHS. RIP

Its in the loft I think.

It needed a bit of altering round my weird shoulders so probably would need altering again and might not work.

I think the idea of the DD's being able to see it and try it on.

also have ideas of wearing it on my 25th wedding anniversary party if I keep my figure

CammieKennaway · 28/12/2018 16:55

I donated mine to charity along with my tiara, veil and the petticoat

Falcon1 · 28/12/2018 18:07

I sold mine - got 50% back what I paid for it, which I was pretty pleased with.

Corneliawildthing · 28/12/2018 18:18

Mine went to the rubbish dump about 20 years later

sabs22 · 28/12/2018 18:23

After two years I have just put mine in to get cleaned and boxed up. I’ll be keeping mine as a momento and if I have a girl myself maybe the veil or some aspects of the dressxohld be incorporated into her wedding if she wanted. I had to get mine altered so much I doubt it would ever have fitted anyone else and probably couldn’t be altered any more.

For northern ladies looking for wedding dresses. Was in Boundary Mill, Colne yesterday, they had fabulous Monsoon Bridal on sale.

They looked gorgeous.

FleurNancy · 28/12/2018 19:01

I cut mine up after it hung down the side of my wardrobe for about 4 years (high street one mind you) to make into a dress for my son's toy. Still got bits of it knocking around in my scrap box, love the idea of an angel for the Christmas tree though! Might use bits of it to make something for my niece as well.

Mayrhofen · 28/12/2018 20:14

I let my DD dress up in mine until it was raggy from being dragged in the floor and pinned in at the back. I then binned it when she grew out of playing at being a princess.

Mayrhofen · 28/12/2018 20:15

Mine was short BTW so it wasn’t far too long for her.

Make dolls from dresses - I got my children Teddy bears with their first baby grows for a christening present - I like to dance around in my dress once a year just to prove it still fits !

gonerogue · 28/12/2018 21:28

My daughter is making her first holy Communion in May so my wedding dress is going to be cut up for her communion dress. She has very particular ideas about what she wants - and we may as well reuse the material we have rather than buying new stuff.

My dress was very plain - strapless and fitted with panels of material so loads to work with I hope.

Bleurgh0 · 28/12/2018 22:20

Sold it. At the time it was a v popular dress so had good resale value (I got back 50% of what I paid for it brand new). I did try to buy it secondhand but, although that particular dress was regularly sold secondhand at the time, one in my size never came up during the few months I was looking.

Weimaragi · 28/12/2018 22:39

Mine ended up like this on our bedroom wall.....felt sad about it being stuffed at the back of the wardrobe so instead i see it everyday!

To ask what you did with your wedding dress?
Bleurgh0 · 28/12/2018 22:44

Weimaragi. That's lovely

WLmum · 28/12/2018 22:47

Oxfam for mine too. Triple win IMO - I get space back, oxfam get cash, some lucky lady gets my beautiful dress with all its good vibes for a bargain price.

KisstheTeapot14 · 28/12/2018 22:48

I got my gorgeous wedding dress from someone kind on Freagle. I was so chuffed as would never have been able to afford (entire wedding was a grand). Gift it to someone or somewhere.

After our wedding my mum cleaned it to pristine (great job mum as it did get partied in well) and we donated it to charity. So it went on giving.

Personally I think its a tad creepy to hold on to a wedding dress, a bit miss haversham. My MIL turned up on day of SIL wedding with her old dress (not the plan, as SIL had couture one hand made - she wore her choice)

It's had its day, it did you proud (a really lovely dress). Let it drift onwards with love I say x

Thanks bleurgh Grin
