To ask what you did with your wedding dress?

My wedding dress is just sat in my spare bedroom and it feels so wasteful. (It’s lovely - if I do say so myself and was expensive!)

But I’m not sure what to do with it? What did you do with your wedding dress?

Any ideas?

I wish I'd hired mine. You could hire something awesome and swanky and not have to store it forever.

I had mine made into christening gowns for my daughters, and then the spare material was given to a charity to make into dresses for stillborn babies. I would've liked to keep it for my daughters, but it was very old fashioned and I doubt my daughters would've liked it with the constant change of fashion trends. We still have my veil, though, as it has been passed through the family generations since my great great great grandmother got married.

Mine is at my parents’ house. I had it made by my brother’s dear friend, who lived 5 minutes down the road. It is stunning. Said friend then emigrated and has made a fantastic name for themselves as a wedding dress designer, as in featured in that country’s Vogue. Keeping the dress for my daughter to cast her fine eye over if she ever fancies it!

I sold mine on eBay when I got divorced

I tapped the photo of your dress, at which point DP looked over, saw my phone with a picture of a wedding dress full screen and now looks like he needs a stiff drink.

Gorgeous dress!

I loved mine but although it was from a bridal shop, it was relatively inexpensive and not worth selling on as would have needed cleaning etc and tricky to alter.

It hung around in the loft for 15 years and when I got divorced I donated it to the textiles department of a local secondary school.

I'm currently waiting for the list to open again so I can send my dress to be made into gowns.

DSD wore mine for her own wedding, not sure where it is now - probably in her wardrobe.

DangerousBeanz · 31/12/2018 12:02

Mine was made by a friend based on a Justin Alexander design I saw online (8511). It was made from emerald green and ivory silk and is absolutely stunning. We just paid for the materials.
It's now in a box in the loft. It's such a shame.

Mines still in the loft, in a dress bag inside a vacuum bag..... been there nearly 12 years and will probably stay there. It was altered to fit me, so would need to fit someone the same size/shape.
