To ask what you did with your wedding dress?

My wedding dress is just sat in my spare bedroom and it feels so wasteful. (It’s lovely - if I do say so myself and was expensive!)

But I’m not sure what to do with it? What did you do with your wedding dress?

Any ideas?

I took mine to the local rubbish dump along with the wedding album.

Ha ha even if i am a miss havershamBlush

Proseccoagain · 28/12/2018 22:56

It's in the loft, married nearly 47 years ago and can't bear to get rid of it. Can't get over how tiny I was then! Under 8 stone and must have been a size 8 or 10.

KisstheTeapot14 · 28/12/2018 23:00

Weimaragi, to be fair Miss Haversham never got married, I think she got jilted at the church and never recovered.

I think what you have done is a creative use and I approve. Anyway I'm pot kettle as I am a right old hoarder of other stuff - just not clothes for some reason. Don't look at the books....hundreds and thousands...

canibehereifimnotamum · 28/12/2018 23:02

Mine is in my MIL spare bedroom- she dosent know! I don't want to give it away but don't know what to do with it!

canibehereifimnotamum · 28/12/2018 23:03

One thing I would love to do is a NYE party and everyone wear their wedding dress! But other than that!? So following this with interest

Tumbledryer1 · 28/12/2018 23:04

Mines been in the loft for 22 years so haven’t got a clue if it’s even any good still!!

Racheyg · 28/12/2018 23:07

I'm still unsure what to do with mine. It's not the right material for gowns for babies. I also have two boys so no girls to pass it on too.

I'm hoping to go to a fancy dress party as a princess 😂

I still have my wedding dress from 1974. It is 100% polyester so is as white as when I bought it. I saw one exactly the same for sale in a charity shop a few years ago. I suppose it is vintage.

UnleashTheBulsara · 28/12/2018 23:41

MakeYouSoSureAboutIt I LOVE your dress, it's beautiful! Mine was a disappointment and the whole dress thing didn't turn out how I really wanted, but yours is just the style I would have been looking for

(Mine has gone to the tip recycling now)

SheWoreBlueVelvet · 28/12/2018 23:42

I will never sqeeze into mine again. And tulle is rubbish to make into anything else.
So no idea.
Once I figure it out it’s my business idea for the next stage of my life though.

YouBetterWORK · 28/12/2018 23:54

In it's box, in case DD would like it. If she doesn't (or isn't short like her mother) I'll probably donate it somewhere. It's quite heavy though, I went for a satin gown affair type thing.

MiraculousMarinette · 28/12/2018 23:55

It went into a skip after a few months

notangelinajolie · 29/12/2018 00:26

Mines under the bed in one of those sucky in bags.

My DD's get it out from time to time and we all try it on. Sadly, I can't get it past my knees Sad. However the good news is that 2 out of my 3 DD's (all slim} can't get the zip up so despite me thinking I was fat when I got married I now realise that I was tiny. Shame I can't say the same about me today (too much Wine & Cake}

boydoggies · 29/12/2018 00:37

I sent mine to the wishing well foundation. They help arrange weddings for people who are terminally ill.

poppyseed2 · 29/12/2018 00:49

I have only just gotten around to having mine cleaned three years after the wedding, and it will now resume taking up valuable closet space. It was beautiful, but probably not timeless enough to pass on.

notangelinajolie · 29/12/2018 00:49

30 years on I still quite like my dress. It actually appeared in a bridal magazine after I wore it Smile It's ivory satin, very big and very twirly think The King and I

Ariela · 29/12/2018 00:56

Mine is a gorgeous deep teal colour, I made it myself and it is just
quite a plain classic with a strappy bodice so looks fab as an evening gown (have worn to several works parties/dinner dances/balls over the years). The jacket that I wore over the top, is a creamy white with thousands of beads and looks super over a strappy top and black trousers as slightly less formal evening wear. The hat I repurpose regularly with different trims and colours, I regenerated it with feathers and flowers for Ascot last year. The shoes I never did like the fit especially so they only get worn with the dress in ballgown mode (dyed same colour). As it all still fits I'm not parting with it yet.

SleightOfMind · 29/12/2018 01:06

Freecycled mine. The woman I gave it to was so lovely and thrilled.
It looked waaaay better on her too Grin

arranbubonicplague · 29/12/2018 01:27

I bought a suit to wear. I still have it (and the hat that was dyed to match).

PomBearWithoutHerOFRS · 29/12/2018 02:32

My first one was rented so went back to the shop. My second was a black velvet evening dress, I lent it to a friend for a special occasion and never got it back, and my third was a silver Celtic embroidered one and I still have it. I've worn it a few times since, and probably will again.

Purplecatshopaholic · 29/12/2018 10:13

I hung onto mine, its still at the back of the wardrobe over 20 years later. However as he has just left me for someone else I feel a ceremonial burning coming on!

Anothermothersusername · 29/12/2018 10:37

I sent mine off to be cleaned and it’s in a box at my mum and dad’s house. It was a lovely dress by Caroline Castigliano and I was going to keep it in case my daughter ever wanted to use it. But it’s strapless and I don’t think that style will be back in fashion for a long time now.

poppiesallykatie · 29/12/2018 10:54

@MrsFoxPlus4 Flowers So sorry for your loss. That is so sad and so sweet, it made me cry.

1forAll74 · 29/12/2018 10:55

I was married in 1967,and a friend from work made my lovely wedding dress, I Just had to buy all the material, and she made my dress for free, plus two bridesmaids dresses

My dress was then boxed up and put in the attic of our first house. But in a few years,we moved house a few times, and realised that we must have left the dress in the box in the first house attic room. so I will always wonder what happened to it, either to be found, or cut up for something or other., unless it's still somewhere after 51 years.
