To ask what you did with your wedding dress?

My wedding dress is just sat in my spare bedroom and it feels so wasteful. (It’s lovely - if I do say so myself and was expensive!)

But I’m not sure what to do with it? What did you do with your wedding dress?

Any ideas?

Mine's in the loft in a box. It's not in fashion now, so I couldn't sell it.

I quite like the idea of sending it to Africa or the charity for stillborn babies' clothes.

ExFury · 28/12/2018 10:11

I gave mine to the wedding wishing well foundation when they put up an appeal for a dress in my size.

They do weddings for people affected by terminal illness.

leahlemur · 28/12/2018 10:25

OP, what size is your dress? I'm not getting married until 2020 and haven't been to any dress shops yet, but it's exactly the type of dress that I've had in my head for years Shock

JumpingJunipersBatman · 28/12/2018 10:28

I sent mine to a lady who makes clothes/blankets/keep sakes for babies who are either too small for clothes or who are still born or die.

The dress has so many happy memories and love tied into it that I hope sone of it brings comfort.

SweetSummerchild · 28/12/2018 10:28

Mine went back to the shop it was hired from.

It snowed on my wedding day (heavily) and the path up to the church was gritted and slushy. The bottom of the dress was filthy by the end of the day but the hire cost included the cleaning.

I am very glad I didn’t buy the dress.

I got the train of mine made into a decorative blanket for my DS' Moses basket/pram. It was absolutely beautiful and attracted so many compliments. We are not religious so couldn't use it for a christening gown etc so this was the next best thing for us.

MakeYouSoSureAboutIt · 28/12/2018 10:34

@leahlemur its a UK size 14 and is Maggie Sottero

@MakeYouSoSureAboutIt....nearly 7 years, two moves (one to another country) and two babies it is hard to keep track 🤣🤣🤣🙈

toucan12 · 28/12/2018 11:07

Mine is second hand, and I can't really bear the thought of selling it - but I am a bit of a hoarder when it comes to sentimental things. It's plain and quite traditional so I am going to keep it in case I have a daughter who wants to use it/some of it.. failing that I will cross my fingers for DGCs one day and use it to make christening gowns.

Ladymargarethall · 28/12/2018 11:10

Charity shop I think. Can't really remember.

wombatron · 28/12/2018 11:12

@MakeYouSoSureAboutIt I'm in the same boat, mines a Maggie Sottero (Greer) and it's not been altered at all - aside from cup inserts that can be removed. I toyed with the idea of having it made shorter so I could wear it on my first anniversary, but given I will be 6months pregnant that's gone out the window!

It's beautiful (and expensive) and I don't want to see it for £700 which is probably what someone would want to pay for it. So I'm keeping it and will waft around the house in it from time to time Grin

currentcake · 28/12/2018 11:18

@MakeYouSoSureAboutIt donate it to me 😉 I get married soon and struggling to find 'the' dress. Yours is beautiful!

ChanandlerBongsNeighbour · 28/12/2018 11:18

Mines dry cleaned and boxed at PILs house, no room for it here! I've got two DD's who might be able to use some of it (Corset and skirt) so I shall save it for them.

ThePinkOcelot · 28/12/2018 11:39

I handed mine in at our local hospice charity shop.

LittleKitty1985 · 28/12/2018 11:51

Mine was rented so just popped it in the post the day after. It cost £200, including custom fitting, & it was lovely. DH and I love a bargain!

GrumpyMcGrumpFace · 28/12/2018 12:07

I gave mine to a friend. Annoyingly I think she looked better in it than me!

Hippopotas · 28/12/2018 12:11

It’s hanging in a wardrobe.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 28/12/2018 12:19

Mine got ripped in the party after the wedding so I binned it.

If I hadn't I would have sold it on eBay as I'm not very sentimental about things like that.

DragonSnaps · 28/12/2018 12:26

I donated it to a charity shop

Smidge001 · 28/12/2018 12:31

I sold mine. Got 1/6th of the cost back. Shame it didn't sell for more, as it was really lovely, but I'm glad someone else will get to use it, AND that it isn't taking up space in my wardrobe!

goforkyourself · 28/12/2018 12:32

I sold my beautiful Maggie to a wedding dress shop (needed the money after divorce from cheating ex). Months later it appeared on FB being worn by my friend's monster-in-law at her fourth wedding Shock Was so tempted to comment that the dress was cursed 😂

BifsWif · 28/12/2018 12:32

Sold mine.

AllTakenSoRubbishUsername · 28/12/2018 12:46

I could never get rid of my wedding dress! I had mine packed in a special box, which I keep on the top shelf of my wardrobe, with the veil and shoes, etc. in other boxes.

EmeraldShamrock · 28/12/2018 12:51

My friend had her DDs communion dress made from her wedding dress.

AndromedaPerseus · 28/12/2018 13:04

There is a programme on Quest where the bride can choose between a new gown or her mums but retailored and bought up to date. The seamstress is amazing at remodelling the the old gowns and often they are better than the new ones the bride chose.
