Twelfth night. Why can nobody languish in the festive period any more?
I don't know but I think it's sad. The time between Christmas Day and New Year is my favourite time. My tree is still up, there is still a fair amount of food in the house and the pressure of buying presents and festive food is done with. Happy days.

IdentifyasTired · 28/12/2018 15:03

6th Jan. Feast of the Epiphany.

SoyDora · 28/12/2018 15:10

Certainly not yet, it’s still Christmas.
Usually twelfth night, but I am 40 weeks pregnant so they might end up staying up for months as we’ll be too knackered to take them down Grin

Asthenia · 28/12/2018 15:23

Ours went up 5th Dec and will stay up til 12th night. Can’t imagine ripping everything down on Boxing Day! We were still celebrating! And it’s still the festive season now!

Ski4130 · 28/12/2018 15:44

Ours went one at the end of Nocember (dd was off school sick and needed cheering up) and they’ll come down on New Years Eve. I love this cosy, twinkly lighted bit of Christmas, and we’ve actually got another two Christmas get togethers at our house, so it’d be weird to take them down now. We’ve cleaned and tidied though, so the house is spotless and the decs aren’t in the way so it feels really nice at the moment. I think this is my favourite bit of the Christmas period - the day itself is done, then pressure’s off and now we can just relax and enjoy.

JumpingJunipersBatman · 28/12/2018 15:46

New year's eve. I want to take it down now but I've agreed to wait.

loveka · 28/12/2018 15:47

6th January. I love my tree!

We are having a dinner party on 5th January for 12th Night.

ClaryFray · 28/12/2018 16:07

Today mine went! Welcome 2019!

Lauren83 · 28/12/2018 16:10

Did mine today too, it's DS first birthday early Jan so wanted a good gap between

Shodan · 28/12/2018 16:25

Normally on 12th Night, but I took the sitting room free down today, because the poor thing was actually starting to undecorate itself! They only time ds1, ds2 and I could get together to go and choose it was the first weekend in December, so it's been up since then. The needles were falling heavily and the branches were drooping so decorations kept falling off.

Next year hopefully we'll be able to go mid-December as usual.

toomuchtooold · 28/12/2018 16:28

I'll probably leave the white lights up till about halfway through March. The rest will go on the 6th, when we have all sorts of fun stuff to look forward to with this being southern Germany - the kids wander around dressed like the three wise men and chalk a blessing above your door, and there's three kings bread which has a little plastic king and a crown to wear. When that all happens it feels like Christmas is definitely finished. Also, there's only one Christmas tree collection here so if you miss it you have to drag it up to the forest and leave it to rot drive it down to the recycling Grin

grumblina · 28/12/2018 16:29

Mine have gone 😬

Dontsweatthelittlestuff · 28/12/2018 16:32

I put mine up the week before Christmas and took them down this morning as I wanted to have a good clean of the house.
Still a couple of boxes of Christmas chocolates on the side, Christmas loo roll in the downstairs loo and a half pack of Christmas on the dining table but everything else is boxed and put away in the garage for next year.

MoaningSickness · 28/12/2018 16:44

I like the decorations down because I enjoy the normality and not having brightly coloured and often flashing plastic tat all over the house, makes me feel claustrophobic.

I get that, and like the clean uncluttered feeling when they go away, but if people are choosing to put them two months early that presumably isnt the reason they want them down during the 12 days of Christmas.

I get that everyone makes their own traditions and rules and what people do in their own houses is up to then, but I just wonder why Christmas particularly is moving ever earlier. No one is giving out Easter eggs on Good Friday and declaring themselves sick of Easter already.

WhatTheFuckRichard · 28/12/2018 16:47

The kids play a game on Christmas night. Whoever collects the most baubles wins an extra selection box. Tree is packed into a box the next morning without needing to be stripped of all the sparkly shit. No glitter on your hands, takes the best part of 2 minutes and the kids aren't upset about it.

You're welcome Grin

RandomUsernameHere · 28/12/2018 16:52

I did it today! The tree was shedding loads of needles, it was getting really annoying.
All decorations are down now apart from the wreath on the door.

OutPinked · 28/12/2018 16:54

Taking them down Sunday so we can recycle the tree before new year. Will be sad to see it go but equally happy to have the space in the room back Grin.

KC225 · 28/12/2018 16:55

News Years day.

KingscoteStaff · 28/12/2018 17:55

We’ve got a big party for friends tomorrow and one on Sunday - the house needs to still look festive for them.

My mum and dad were married on Jan 6th so they had an annual 12th night party after which everything came down.

ArfursSixpences · 28/12/2018 19:12

Twelfth night, always. As it should be :-) We leave some lights up until Imbolc, though.

Korvalscat · 28/12/2018 19:17

6th January. Probably won't switch the lights on much after New Year's Eve though.

Mulberry7373 · 28/12/2018 19:26

I bet all the ones that take the tree and decorations down on Boxing day, or the day after, are the loons that have had it all up since November ! No wonder you are all sick of the sight of it, it should be up over Xmas and new yeah, then down.

Pachyderm1 · 28/12/2018 19:35

1st or 2nd jan depending on how energetic I feel after NYE! I quite like having it all normal and fresh looking once Christmas is over.

CrookedMe · 28/12/2018 20:03

Quite a lot of conjecture on this thread!

I don't put my tree up early but I still like the 'fresh start' feeling when you take it down and get ready for the year ahead. I find clutter very mentally stressful so I don't like it hanging around longer than is necessary.

Or, according to this thread, I've had my decs up since I came back from my summer holiday so it's no bloody wonder etc grumble moan etc Confused

RomanyRoots · 28/12/2018 20:15

Ours usually come down NY day, with the reasoning that xmas was last year. This year will probably be the second as we're having family party and will be too hung over Grin
We only put them up on the 15th December though.
