I start looking at the tree in a different light after New Year's Day, it's nice to get it all tidy again. It usually comes down on 1st or 2nd but if the kids don't want to take it down I'll leave it for a bit longer.

AllTakenSoRubbishUsername · 28/12/2018 10:06

The kids love the ritual bonfire of the tree and all the packaging though, so that will be a temptation for them! ;-)

luckylavender · 28/12/2018 10:17

Always Twelfth Night.

FiveShelties · 28/12/2018 10:17

6th January - unlucky to take down before 12th night and I don't want to tempt fateGrin

RaspberryRuffless · 28/12/2018 10:22

Took mine down on Boxing Day. They went up at the beginning of December but regardless of how late I put them up, I’d absolutely never leave them up after new year.

DowntonCrabby · 28/12/2018 10:27

We’ll probably do it 6th Jan before kids are back to school on the 7th. I find it depressing when they all come down.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 28/12/2018 10:29

Probably on Sunday.

Christmas feels well and truly over now, I don’t see any point keeping everything up until January.

WithAllIntenseAndPurposes · 28/12/2018 10:32

Ahh the ridiculous annual threads where people who've had their tree and decs up since September declare 'Christmas is over' 4pm on the 25th and must get 'back to normal' 🙄

CaptainBrickbeard · 28/12/2018 10:46

Christmas is definitely still ongoing here! We’re eating leftovers and all the new toys are out everywhere for playing all day. We will see family and exchange more presents and keep it going. This is the restful period for me: no more hosting, minimal cooking, lots of sleep and reading and tv and walks and it’s when I can actually sit and enjoy all the decorations in a little hibernation cocoon. I might feel differently if I was back at work but off til 7th so won’t clear away until Twelfth Night.

ScribblyGum · 28/12/2018 10:54

12th Night starts at sunset on the 5th so all decorations in my house will be down by then. I usually start taking down bits from the second but always finish with the bits of natural greenery (holly and ivy) which go outside and are ceremonially burnt on the fire pit at our 12th Night party.

kingscote · 28/12/2018 10:57

12th night for me.

I don't understand people putting them up in mid November and then tearing them down on Boxing Day because they're 'bored' looking at them. Why put them up when it isn't even Christmas and then be fed up of them as soon as Christmas arrives?

HollyandIvyarelivingitupagain · 28/12/2018 10:58

We've been away for Christmas but the cards, fairy lights will stay as ntil 12th night.
I am back at work but it is still the Christmas period(runs from Christmas Eve to 12th night). So many people celebrate advent not Christmas.

TokyoSushi · 28/12/2018 10:58

Ours goes down on New Year's Day

starrynight19 · 28/12/2018 11:01

2nd Jan for us , this definitely is still the Christmas period for us so not ready to put it all away yet.

Outfoxed · 28/12/2018 11:01

13th of January is traditional here in Scandinavia. Might take ours down a bit earlier though, as the trees needles are starting to drop a bit.

Skyejuly · 28/12/2018 11:31

Mine are down x

Skyejuly · 28/12/2018 11:33

I don't celebrate Christmas in traditional sense and only have a tree and lights for yule

halcyondays · 28/12/2018 11:40

always on 6th January. OK sometimes a bit later.

MrsArabin · 28/12/2018 11:41

Twelfth Night here too. But then, my decorations have only been up since the 23rd and I haven't had time to get sick of them. Also, I read The Thirteen Days of Christmas as a child so I know Christmas doesn't end at sunset on Christmas Day.

I'm sure in time some people will be getting the whole of Christmas 'done' in November as they seem to think starting and ending it earlier and earlier is some kind of bizarre virtue.

But to answer your question OP, we're old fashioned here and celebrate the Christmas period at Christmas time... so no, we're not bored after a few days and will keep the decorations til the 12th night.

gogogoforit · 28/12/2018 11:53

I agree Moaning. There seems to be a trend for starting Christmas earlier and earlier and also for finishing it sooner and sooner. There's something a bit miserable about people tearing down the decorations at midnight on Christmas Day and declaring Christmas officially over.

I wonder are they the same people who can't wait to get back out to the shops on Boxing Day?

WhatOnEarthDoIDoNow · 28/12/2018 14:13

I like the decorations down because I enjoy the normality and not having brightly coloured and often flashing plastic tat all over the house, makes me feel claustrophobic. When I'm not living at home I'll be decorating for the 12 days of christmas and no more. This extended christmas thing while a lovely idea is overwhelming and inconvenient tbh.

Polskieexpat · 28/12/2018 14:33

Why does anyone put their decorations up in November?!

Ours went up 22nd Dec and will come down on Epiphany.

mouthkisses · 28/12/2018 14:44

Twelfth night. Why can nobody languish in the festive period any more?

tinytemper66 · 28/12/2018 14:45

Outside ones on Wednesday, inside ones next Sunday 😂
