Since I can’t find a thread in the Christmas Forum?

I love hearing about other people’s gifts, good, bad and humorous.

I’ve had a crappy Christmas (really poorly and missed every party/family day) but loved my gifts from everyone which was my only positive part of the season!

I will start, my favs are:
Hive with Alexa
A handmade poem in a frame from DD2
A Disney quiz game from DD1
Gorgeous Ted Baker pjs from my Mum

I didn’t get any bad gifts this year, so no funnies there!

Kids got some funny musical things in their stockings which were like spinning tops which played Axel F and lit up (and they spent ages playing with them),

What did Santa bring you? X

Some ghd straighteners
Echo dot
A glass paperweight with a 3D etching in it of my dog that died last year.
A jumper
Kipling purse
Antique bracelet
Wine
Proscecco and glasses
Tin of biscuits
Hotel choclat chocs.

Really happy with all of them.

hammeringinmyhead · 28/12/2018 09:33

I haven't opened my gifts from my parents as they are coming down today but:

Hotel Chocolat Velvetiser from DH
Sanctuary stuff and Body Shop hand creams from DH (I'm on mat leave and he knows I wanted nice indulgent shower products)
Le Creuset cappuccino mugs, Champneys sets, Starbucks card, Body Shop moisturiser from the in-laws
Friends trivial pursuit from best friend

I believe mum and dad have got me a jumper I wanted.

ARoomSomewhere · 28/12/2018 09:43

My two children, one diagnosed ASD one just referred, gave me hand made cards telling me they loved me (dd, 11) and were proud of me (ds, 14). I had to go into the kitchen for a small cry.

ExH gave me a Christmas cake (I've lost 5st this year). He likes cake.
My mother sent me a size 28 top (I'm a size 12 now and was only ever a 20). Thanks to my children, I managed to laugh and only had happy tears this year.

SinglePringle · 28/12/2018 09:47

Slippers
Pjs

Nothing particularly exciting and I’d gone all out with the surprises for my parents. But they are old and the only people who buy for me.

Thesmallthings · 28/12/2018 11:26

To the op who was shocked people spent money on that partners but also spent a massive amount on their children. It's possible to do both.

Inwoyldnt dream of spending 1700 between 3 children. I'm pretty sure you could have spent a 100 on your partner with out them missing out.

Christmas is about children but that doesn't mean the children should think the world revolves around them.

I got a voucher for Pandora
20 evens voucher

BlueJava · 28/12/2018 11:31

DP and I didn't do Christmas gifts to each other this year as we just moved and had a load of expenses. But I received 2 books - exactly what I wanted both from my parents. I did have to order and wrap them myself though!! :) But happy nonetheless.

ChristmasTwatteryDoesMyHeadIn · 28/12/2018 11:32

DP got me some mini drawers for my dressing table and some nice makeup brushes (he noticed I’ve been wearing make up more often recently) and some cracking bath bombs which all smell like something I remember from childhood (grannies perfume, Mum’s posh bubble bath type stuff)

Kids got me the Unforgotten boxset

Dad got me an M&S voucher (food hall here I come!), a cooks blowtorch (which I love) and Mum’s necklace in a new setting.

JumpingJunipersBatman · 28/12/2018 12:09

I don't care if I sound ungrateful so neh. I got:

From DH:

  • Nothing. Again.
Every year it is the same and every year upsets me. When I am feeling less angry about it I'll tell him he's not getting anything anymore either. He won't care. I'll still be upset.

From 8yr old son (DH would have picked it with him):

  • A really ugly mug.

From parents:

  • £100 with strict instructions to buy new towels. We do need new towels TBH but they've effectively bought me something for other people to dry their bums on.

From PIL:

  • £50 to go towards new saucepans because she doesn't like ours (she gives son tea twice a week). She'll check that's what they've gone on. FWIW we are quite happy with our pans. Suspect husband will insist we get new saucepans just to keep the peace. They will probably cost more than £50.

From uncle:

  • £10

So yeah, £10 and a mug. I know I'm being ungrateful and there are people who are much, much worse off.

Biggerknickersagain · 28/12/2018 12:34

I got -
Massage voucher and chocs from work
Money, PJs, calendar, chocs, socks - mum
Bath salts and soap (lush) - DD
Calendar, radox set, gin glass - friends
Money, snow boots, bath salts - siblings
Chocolate and wine from neighbour, work friends etc.

Not a rich family and I always ask for useful stuff too, really touched with what I've got. About to go and have lunch out with some of the money Grin

GooodMythicalMorning · 28/12/2018 12:59

@JumpingJunipersBatman Its not being ungrateful, its about wanting to be appreciated isnt it. Your dh sounds like a shit, is there a reason he doesn't buy you anything? Yes don't buy him anything and treat yourself to something nice instead. Hopefully he'll get the message.

GooodMythicalMorning · 28/12/2018 13:03

We spend about the same on everyone, if I can afford it I like to treat us all at christmas but realise we're fortunate to be in the position to do so.

sidesplittinglol · 28/12/2018 13:14

Zilch!

leccybill · 28/12/2018 13:16

@JumpingJunipersBatman
Please don't carry on being so unloved and ignored by everyone. It's a sad way to liverify and you're worth well more than that.
What would happen if you spent the cash on not towels/pans?

SoyDora · 28/12/2018 13:20

I kind of agree with a previous poster... are those of you who received lots very wealthy? We spent about £1700 on our three children and got each other nothing. If we had they wouldn't have received Hoverboards, new iPhones, tv's etc

Well mine are only 5 and 3 so certainly not at the stage of being bought iPhones and TV’s. They got plenty of lovely gifts that they will enjoy for months (Lego, crafts etc).
What DH buys for me and vice versa in no way impacts what we buy for the DC.

TisTheSeasonToSparkle · 28/12/2018 17:51

There are a few really judgmental Christmas martyrs on this thread.

"We spent £1k on each of our little darlings and DH and I gave each other our belly button lint and a 50p card from home bargains. That makes us better, more selfless parents then the rest of you selfish cunts who think Christmas is for Everyone (shudders) not just your precious snowflakes."

🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

Have a Biscuit since you didn't get anything else for Christmas.

Limensoda · 28/12/2018 18:02

A Dyson hairdryer (total surprise)
Perfume
Chocolates.

369thegoosedrankwine · 28/12/2018 18:03

A lovely coat - chosen by my DH (I love it).
A few new books that wanted.
3 Bottles of Baileys (I used to love the stuff but have slowly gone off it - I am discretely giving it away).
Some lovely leather gloves.
Some new underwear (needed); and
A new mindfulness diary and a mug.

I was also given money and I am going to the sales for some new underwear tomorrow.

Delatron · 28/12/2018 18:07

From DH;
Jo Malone perfume, On Cloud running trainers, running gloves, lumiere light alarm
thing, marmite with my name on!, Bose sleep headphones (there’s a sleeping and running theme). He always does great presents..
Felt very lucky.

Shutupanddance1 · 28/12/2018 18:09

Diamond earrings (yay!!), 2 Outlander books and Makeup brushes from my hubby. I’m very happy as it’s exactly what I wanted with no silly tat I won’t use.

My DD (who is 2) did a secret Santa gift at nursery for me and I got a lovely little jewellry box from her.

Delighted. Probably doesn’t sound like much but I’m happy as Larry.

Readysteadygoat · 28/12/2018 18:10

grow best present ever!

Lookingforadvice123 · 28/12/2018 18:11

Joint present for DH and I from my DPs were a slow cooker and food processor! We'd asked for them, they look like good ones so v exciting. Also a Fat Face voucher.

White leather converse from DH (asked for).

Bits and bobs from sister and other family, make up, a voucher, prosecco, chocs.

I get more excited seeing what DS just turned 3 gets, he's had some fantastic toys and clothes. All very lucky!

cementpointing · 28/12/2018 18:16

I loved all my presents. There wasn’t a single one I had to give a pretend smile too! I was very fortunate this year and appreciated all my gifts.

SciFiScream · 28/12/2018 18:18

A picture frame with multiple slots, all filled.
A note book
6 packets of After Eights (all from different people)
A feminist notebook
Suffragette vintage badges
A £10 one for all voucher
A book of poems
A watch strap
2 hours in a salt cave (helps with allergic rhinitis)

Our family budget for Christmas was £500. Gifts for our 2, those gifts we buy for others and food and drink.

We buy for each other outside of that budget. I spent about £100 on my DH. Some of our normal food budget went towards Christmas food.

I've since used 2 x after eights in a gift tin as a visiting someone's house present.
