Hunting without the actual fox

This is just caused a bit of a row in our house.

Family member comes into the room where I am and says how disgustingly it is that the supporters were kicking off and a 15'year old was pushed off a horse.

Now I am very very anti fox hunting and I said I am the last person you want to speak to about this as I do not agree with fox hunting on any level.

They continued about how bad it was that this 15 year old has been pushed from the horse and I responded with a comment along the lines of they shouldn't of Been on the horse to go out and do that kind of thing, no sympathy whatsoever.

Apparently now they don't hunt foxes. Just pre laid trails.

So if a fox is then smelt on the way of the pre laid trails, willl the hounds hunt that or the pre laid trail?

I just can't get my head round a sport that is to chase an animal, to its death. The torment that animal Must go through in the name of sport it just disgusts me. Who could actually enjoy that.

I feel the same as you. As far as I am aware, on pre laid trails the hounds are supposed to be fully in the control of the Master of the Hunt. They are supposed to respond to his horn which directs them where to go. How successful this actually is if they smell something I don't know, but I imagine they are fairly well trained.

MamaLovesMango · 26/12/2018 20:48

I can’t get my head around the fact that you’re more bothered about a fox than a child being pushed off a horse tbh 🤷‍♀️

Cuntish behaviour on both sides.

Toffeeandyawns · 26/12/2018 20:51

Everyone with half a brain cell knows that the hunt are still hunting foxes and not following trails.

They have been found keeping foxes.
They still employ terrier men to block up holes.
There is photographic evidence of foxes who have been killed all over the internet.

It’s depraved.

I’ve heard a fox being ripped apart by hounds. I could hear it from inside my house. It sounded like a screaming baby. It’s horrific.

itsbritneybiatches · 26/12/2018 20:51

My child wouldn't be on a horse to participate in bloodsport.

15 is hardly a child really is it. Let's have it right, 15 is old enough to make an educated guess about what you are participating in and what risks are associated with the.

You can join the army at 16 so hardly a "child".

Regardless of your feelings, saboteurs, not supporters, pushing anyone off a horse is assault and incredibly dengerous and could lead to serious injury or death

topcat2014 · 26/12/2018 20:53

Hunting foxes with hounds is illegal now. So what you are left with is anger with toffs riding horses.

Not quite sure what the sabs are sabbing, tbh.

Just town v country, I think.

Tryingbutfailingmiserably · 26/12/2018 20:53

They still hunt foxes. Trail hunting is a smoke screen. The only foxless hunting is drag or clean boot hunting.

itsbritneybiatches · 26/12/2018 20:54

From what I've read no one went up
And pushed anyone off as a targeted assault. They were pushed off in the fracas

Tryingbutfailingmiserably · 26/12/2018 20:54

Eggesford hunt killed today

Ollivander84 · 26/12/2018 20:54

Nobody should be pushing anyone off a horse. I do the hunt rides, NOT the hunt and there's been sabs there before

That's not hunting in any way shape or form, it's literally a group of people meeting up to ride over country we aren't usually allowed to

topcat2014 · 26/12/2018 20:55

15 is most definitely a child.

I hold no great candle for foxhunting, btw. But I put people above animals.

crazycatgal · 26/12/2018 20:55

They still hunt foxes, anyone that thinks that they don't has their head in the sand.

Tryingbutfailingmiserably · 26/12/2018 20:55

Just town v country, I think.

That old chestnut Hmm
It really isnt about town v country

NotSuchASmugMarriedNow1 · 26/12/2018 20:55

YANBU. Hard to believe this still goes on in this enlightened age.

IWouldPreferNotTo · 26/12/2018 20:56

Regardless of whether or not a fox may have been hunted it can't be acceptable to potentially severely injure a child to protect an animal.

Shitlandpony · 26/12/2018 20:57

Absolute bollocks, my stables attended a hunt today and a Fox was killed. This happens regularly and I know for a fact that one of the kennels has used cubs for training.

It’s absolutely disgusting and anyone who has anything to do with horses or the country knows that the law is flouted all the time.

itsbritneybiatches · 26/12/2018 20:58

What's the difference between a hunt ride and a hunt? @Ollivander84

OP posts:
MamaLovesMango · 26/12/2018 21:00

Anybody that parcipates in something that means a child, an adult or animal gets hurt in the process loses any kind of moral standing.

And yes, 15 is a child. A lot of 15 year olds would struggle to comprehend complex ethical issues. Especially if it’s ingrained in their social surroundings and demonstrated by the people responsible for them and their upbringing. It’s called social conditioning and it takes a long time for adults to to develop thoughts and feelings to turn that around.

ComtesseDeSpair · 26/12/2018 21:01

Not all hunts still hunt foxes. None that I’ve ridden with since the ban have. As with anything else, there will be a small hardcore of traditionalists who want things done the same way; but hunting increasingly attracts younger more cosmopolitan followers who are as appalled by bloodsports as anybody else.

I’ve no time for saboteurs though. They generally don’t care about the actual cause and just want an excuse for causing trouble.

itsbritneybiatches · 26/12/2018 21:01

I know 15 is a child but at 10 your tried as an adult as you know the difference between right and wrong and Make your own decisions.

At 15 you know what to expect from a hunt surely as in protestors etc

OP posts:
Ollivander84 · 26/12/2018 21:02

@itsbritneybiatches there's no hunting
No trail, nothing. It's basically like me meeting a couple of friends for a ride like I do most days but a bigger version, and they get permission off land owners to use fields and tracks we can't usually
So it's good for getting young horses going forward if they're lazy, meeting up with people and getting to ride over areas you don't normally

Randomnumbers7483 · 26/12/2018 21:03

Hunting is illegal BUT that isn’t stopping them bloody doing it!! They are STILL killing foxes and anyone who thinks otherwise is wrong.

There are photographs of the foxes that have been ripped apart today - I won’t link to them but as people have said upthread it has definitely happened.

Anyone who takes part in this “sport” is a vile, disgusting excuse for a human being and I have absolutely no sympathy if they get hurt: they have the choice to go or not to go!!! If they had stayed at home and not gone out with the intention of torturing and murdering an innocent animal then they wouldn’t have been injured. The poor bloody fox gets no choice in being ripped apart alive!!

I hope they get prosecuted to the maximum for participating but unfortunately I doubt that will happen.

Amanduh · 26/12/2018 21:03

There was a hunt local to me today and there was no fox or killing.
I know lots still do kill the fox though and I am completely against it. It’s awful.
No matter what, nobody should be pushed off a horse, and you saying a 15 yo isn’t even a child whilst complaining about killing a fox is what disgusts me though.

Stuckforthefourthtime · 26/12/2018 21:04

It's never ok to push someone off a horse.

I'm against fox hunting - or any hunting, and am a vegetarian too - but anyone who has seen what a fox can do to a chicken run knows that they kill for fun just like the hunts do. To potentially kill or leave a child permanently disabled, just on the off chance that the hunt is lying and might kill an actual fox, is madness.

itsbritneybiatches · 26/12/2018 21:05

Thank you for the explanation.

Do you take hounds?
