Hunting without the actual fox

itsbritneybiatches · 26/12/2018 20:44

This is just caused a bit of a row in our house.

Family member comes into the room where I am and says how disgustingly it is that the supporters were kicking off and a 15'year old was pushed off a horse.

Now I am very very anti fox hunting and I said I am the last person you want to speak to about this as I do not agree with fox hunting on any level.

They continued about how bad it was that this 15 year old has been pushed from the horse and I responded with a comment along the lines of they shouldn't of Been on the horse to go out and do that kind of thing, no sympathy whatsoever.

Apparently now they don't hunt foxes. Just pre laid trails.

So if a fox is then smelt on the way of the pre laid trails, willl the hounds hunt that or the pre laid trail?

I just can't get my head round a sport that is to chase an animal, to its death. The torment that animal Must go through in the name of sport it just disgusts me. Who could actually enjoy that.

Of course they're still hunting foxes, there's plenty of evidence and it's utter depravity. It's a shame that a 15 year old got pushed off a horse, that's not ok and it's very dangerous but what in earth is a 15 year old doing involved in a hunt?! Disgraceful parenting allowing or encouraging participation.

It's not town vs country, it's people who can't understand the joy of terrifying and having dogs rip apart an animal for "sport" and people who can.

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 26/12/2018 21:06

My DH is a long distance runner and got paid to trail lay for the hunt local to where we used to live.

Ollivander84 · 26/12/2018 21:06

@itsbritneybiatches depends. The ones I have seen and been on, no hounds

mbosnz · 26/12/2018 21:08

Lay a finger on me, on my horse, or on my kid on their horse, and whatever happens is self defence or defence of another in my book.

nokidshere · 26/12/2018 21:08

Fox hunting is appalling but so is pushing people off horses. No one should be harming people or animals.

smerlin · 26/12/2018 21:09

How appalling that any person would condone another human being pushed off their horse, with the risk of being trampled and seriously injured or even killed and think it is justified on any level. Whatever your feelings are on foxes being killed; that is one of the most callous things I have read here.

HavelockVetinari · 26/12/2018 21:11

FFS, anyone who assaults a child and could well have seriously injured or killed that child can fuck right off. I'm against blood sports but this was a DRAG HUNT, not a fox hunt. I know the antis go on about it being a cover for real hunting but it is so rare for that to happen and only with hunts who are breaking the law wilfully.

And FYI:

Children over 10

Children between 10 and 17 can be arrested and taken to court if they commit a crime.

They are treated differently from adults and are:

dealt with by youth courts

given different sentences

sent to special secure centres for young people, not adult prisons.

Poloshot · 26/12/2018 21:11

@topcat2014 agreed, and a wrongly perceived class issue.

smerlin · 26/12/2018 21:12

Also, I would be interested to know if all the people on this thread complaining about the fluffy foxes are vegetarians or otherwise meat eaters who buy ethically raised and slaughtered meat? Or is this really a class issue?

Poloshot · 26/12/2018 21:13

@mbosnz absolutely

NicoAndTheNiners · 26/12/2018 21:14

All you need to do is follow some of the sabbing groups on fb. You will soon see plenty of evidence that a lot of hunts aren't even bothering to lay a scent trail. They go straight out hunting for foxes because they spend ages trying to find a Fox.......if a trail was laid they'd be following that.

Never mind all the photos of them thrashing around in coverts trying to flush fox out, you'd never put a trail through a covert. Photos of hounds running through peoples gardens.....again no trails would be put through back gardens. The hounds which were run over and killed on the dual carriageway the other week.......don't think they'd put a trail there either. And of course all the photos of ripped up foxes.

I don't condone pulling anyone off a horse.

Nor do I condone the violence which I've seen with my own eyes against sabs. Riders cantering at sabs, trying to mow them down. Sabs having their car windows smashed. Some sabs locally had a digger full of manure put all over their land rover the other week. Hunt followers punching sabs. Yes the sabs are being vocal and a pain in the arse to the hunt but I see the Hunt supporters starting any violence.

FabulouslyGlamorousFerret · 26/12/2018 21:14

Hunt sabs are utter fucking idiots. I've been out on hunt rides and hound exercise and they've been there ranting and trying to intimidate, it makes me want to go and murder a fox just to spite them I am totally anti blood sports.

Please don't get drag hunts mixed up with trail hunts which are sometimes used as a smoke screen. Drag hunt hounds aren't trained to chase the smell of fox, trail hounds are.

TeddybearBaby · 26/12/2018 21:18

I don’t agree with fox hunting at all but I don’t like assault/ violence either especially on a child. I’ve seen the hunt before, never known a fox to be killed, I know it can happen but it’s not the intention any more.

Northernmum12 · 26/12/2018 21:18

Regardless of which view you take pushing a 15 year old off a horse is disgusting. The people who get involved with hunt saboteurs are generally bottom feeders who thrive off violence and confrontation. Every time I have come across them they have been looking for a fight and are very happy to frighten the life out of horses, dogs and people alike so I don’t believe they are in it for animal welfare. And I don’t like or support hunting in anyway!

NicoAndTheNiners · 26/12/2018 21:18

Oh and believe me I'm not angry about toffs riding horses.

I used to hunt when younger. My ex father in law was hunt master. I worked on a hunt yard. I used to love it and was brainwashed into believing it was good for the local chickens/lambs, cull the sickly/elderly foxes.

As I got older I realised how cruel and barbaric it was.

Yes I eat meat but I don't think the beef I eat has ever been chased across the countryside for an hour or more in terror, before being dug out a hole and then ripped limb from limb. The moment abattoirs start killing pigs/cattle/sheep in that manner I promise I will go vegan.

Shitlandpony · 26/12/2018 21:19

Hunt sabs are great, they actually helped recently when one of our liveries fell and was badly injured. They also have rescued hounds which ended up on the road. I would much rather have their principles then enjoy seeing a fox or a stag ripped apart.

Thankfully lots of horsey people don’t support them or fall for the rubbish about trail hunting or patronise the general public about them.

brizzledrizzle · 26/12/2018 21:22

I was a hunt protester (and horse rider) many years ago, it's totally wrong for a person to be pushed off a horse no matter how much you object to what they are allegedly doing.

BadgerSandwich · 26/12/2018 21:23

I've been 'hunting' with a drag pack for as long as i can remember - and literally the only time I've seen a fox was in central London, waiting for the tube.

Yet I've been screamed at, attacked, pushed from my horse?

Some packs do still hunt. Some packs use trails as a cover. But many of us obey the law. I go out because it's good exercise and socialization for young horses, as well as supporting local industries.

JellyBears · 26/12/2018 21:24

Fox hunting is a tradition. They rarely catch anything theSe days. I’m a farmer and I allow the hunt on my farm because I have livestock and foxes destroy live stock. That is why fox hunting happens.

KlutzyDraconequus · 26/12/2018 21:24

The people who get involved with hunt saboteurs are generally bottom feeders who thrive off violence and confrontation

And the hunters get a kick out of chasing a defenceless animal whilst massively out gunning that animal. They're cowards that should be thrown in a field and chased by rabid Dobermans till they collapse.

kinseymilhone · 26/12/2018 21:25

I have been out with our local hunt a few times and have never even laid eyes on a fox in the far distance let alone seen one be chased, caught and killed. I believe my local hunt operate within the law and I wouldn't go if I didn't believe that. I've seen the trail being laid with my own eyes.

Sabs however really don't care whether laws are being followed or not and they certainly don't care about animals (fox numbers have plummeted in this country since the hunting ban). They just want to fight the "toffs".

Shitlandpony · 26/12/2018 21:25

I have never seen a sab assault anyone, I think in the news today there was a prosecution for an assault on one though, sadly the police often act as unofficial body guards for them.

I think this thread might have been posted to goad though and will hide it as so much rubbish is spouted by people with an agenda. Just a few news articles, I know who I think the thugs are.

Personally I don’t like the idea of killing anything in such a way but it’s better then my husband shooting the fox and injuring it and the fox dying a slow death.

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 26/12/2018 21:27

Not okay to push anyone off a horse, especially a child.

But those who participate in fox hunts are callous evil fuckers and I don’t have a huge amount of sympathy for any of them. 15 is old enough to know what you’re doing when you hunt.

itsbritneybiatches · 26/12/2018 21:27

@NicoAndTheNiners

I am 100% behind this statement you made
Below.

"Yes I eat meat but I don't think the beef I eat has ever been chased across the countryside for an hour or more in terror, before being dug out a hole and then ripped limb from limb. The moment abattoirs start killing pigs/cattle/sheep in that manner I promise I will go vegan."
