When it's obvious that what he actually said was "stupid woman".

OP posts:
UpstartCrow · 19/12/2018 20:17

Looking at the video at 0.25 speed, I think he says 'people'.
His lip shapes are 'ba ba' not 'wa ma'.

SheCameFromGreeceSheHadaThirst · 19/12/2018 20:17

And why the fuck is Evelyn Gwennie's opinion more relevant than this poster?????

Calm down there, sweary Mary Hmm

Person A: I'm deaf, and I lip read. He said 'people'

Person B: I'm deaf, and I lip read. He said 'woman'

No one said EG's opinion was more valid; rather, the point was that two deaf lip-readers came to different conclusions based on the same evidence, therefore we cannot incontrovertibly know which of them is correct.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 19/12/2018 20:17

But I have watched the footage again and he definitely said 'people' not 'woman' anyway. There is no way the word 'woman' was used, I don't know where people are getting this from

From his mouth. He clearly says woman. Hmm

OhDearGodLookAtThisMess · 19/12/2018 20:18

There is no way the word 'woman' was used, I don't know where people are getting this from

You've got that the wrong way round. There is no way the word 'people' was used! I don't know where people are getting this from.

Use your eyes, ffs.

PortiaCastis · 19/12/2018 20:19

Storm in a tory teacup to take attention away from their Brexit cock up and the man said people not woman, the vicar's daughter is lucky he didn't say anything more as she was outstandingly rude and aggressive towards him and yes he should have said fucking stupid woman but he didnt

SeaWitchly · 19/12/2018 20:20

So today the big news story is whether Jeremy Corbyn did or didn't say something that he clearly didn't say. Great!

This ^ a million times.

TM and the Tories need to pull their big boy and girl pants on and get on with resolving the shambles that is Brexit. Not distracting people with this absolute nonsense... although it is in a way quite fitting being panto season and all.

This story is such a non-event, closely followed in sheer ridiculousness by the furore of Corbyn's hooded raincoat Hmm

CherrySherbert · 19/12/2018 20:20

I think he's saying 'Yanny'.

OhDearGodLookAtThisMess · 19/12/2018 20:20

Apart from anything else, it makes no sense for him to have said "people." Teresa May was talking, and he was therefore responding about HER.

MyDarlingWhatIfYouFly · 19/12/2018 20:21

@SheCameFromGreeceSheHadaThirst Yes, obviously. Even the expert consulted by Bercow said it was inconclusive.

If you don't like swearing, netmums is always just a click away.

SeaWitchly · 19/12/2018 20:21

Use your eyes, ffs.

Yes I have and it is 'people' imo Hmm

Tinyteatime · 19/12/2018 20:22

A poster on the other thread pointed out that it’s a bit like yanny and laurel.

HauntedPencil · 19/12/2018 20:22

Yeah other things are more important but that's how people shut any criticism down isn't it?

It might not be a huge massive deal but if he's lied about what he said no that's really not acceptable.

Waaaa the Tories tho.

OhDearGodLookAtThisMess · 19/12/2018 20:22

their Brexit cock up
Yes, because Labour would have managed it all perfectly.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 19/12/2018 20:23

Storm in a tory teacup to take attention away from their Brexit cock up and the man said people not woman, the vicar's daughter is lucky he didn't say anything more as she was outstandingly rude and aggressive towards him and yes he should have said fucking stupid woman but he didnt

What has her back ground got to do with it?

If you are going to go down the personal root, then sorry but privately educated Saint JC doesn't walk on water and he can be quite aggressive himself. Doesn't suit your narative though does it.

OhDearGodLookAtThisMess · 19/12/2018 20:24

Even the expert consulted by Bercow

Well that probably proves that it was "woman," then, as there's no way Bercow would have consulted an impartial expert.

AlexaShutUp · 19/12/2018 20:25

Well, I think TM is a stupid woman, and I generally lean towards supporting labour, though I'm currently fed up with the whole bloody lot of them.

I still think he said "stupid woman" - it looks incredibly obvious to me, and I struggle to see how anyone would see it as people. However, I see that lots of people disagree, which surprises me.

If he did say it - and I believe that he did - I wish he would just bloody well admit it and apologise.

HauntedPencil · 19/12/2018 20:25

Oh he can be very aggressive in his manner.

SheCameFromGreeceSheHadaThirst · 19/12/2018 20:25

If you don't like swearing, netmums is always just a click away.

I have no problem whatsoever with swearing, I'm resolutely foul-mouthed myself.

It's just a bit pathetic when people use it indiscriminately to try to give emphasis to a baseless rant, or to attempt to disguise the fact that they've missed the point by a country mile.

Ailisha · 19/12/2018 20:26

He didn't lie though.

ThomasRichard · 19/12/2018 20:26

I’m no Corbyn fan and think Labour have a serious issue with the way they treat women, but it looks like ‘people’ to me.

BishopBrennansArse · 19/12/2018 20:27

That's really interesting. In that full speed clip from The Sun I did see how some might think it was woman. But it's not quite right and slowing the footage down makes it clearer that it is people.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 19/12/2018 20:27

cherry

I think he's saying 'Yanny'

Grin
OhDearGodLookAtThisMess · 19/12/2018 20:28

He didn't lie though.

Yes, he did. He blatantly said "woman" and is now relying on the resulting media furore to fudge the issue and get him off the hook

moanymoaner · 19/12/2018 20:28

Not bothered that the tories lies about how much they would give to the NHS if they got in ? Speaks volumes!

OhDearGodLookAtThisMess · 19/12/2018 20:28

No, BishopBrennan, slowing the footage down re-iterates that it's "woman."
