Should I take DD to a&e?

DD, aged 2, woke up at 5.30 complaining her tummy hurt. She has been sick more times than I can count since then, and can't keep water down. It's bright yellow/green bile. I phoned 111 and got an emergency gp appointment. GP said that it might be norovirus, albeit with unusual presentation as DD has no diarrhoea. Also the rest of the family is fine and no known outbreaks at nursery. Suggested diaoralite and an ice lolly. Both chucked straight back up after less than five mins.

It will be 24 hours since DD drank and kept it down at 6pm, and 24 hours since she went for a wee at 6.30pm (early bedtime last night). She hasn't eaten all day. She is floppy, not talking to me normally or answering me verbally, just gesturing. She won't sit up under her own steam and her head is flopping over. She is awake. Just not herself at all. No temperature according to GP but she feels warm to me.

I rang back 111 as per gps suggestion and I'm waiting for a clinician to call back, I don't know if I can wait much longer! Freaking out as this is so not like her!

I should hold off going to a&e right??? Talk me down!!!!

I would take her to a&e. Non responsive is not normal. Just go.

Buggeroffbingbunny · 12/12/2018 16:57

Go to A&E now. No-one here can reassure you and at that age things can go downhill quickly.

I would take her

flapjackfairy · 12/12/2018 16:58

No go . She needs fluids asap.
Don't panic though but I would not leave it any longer. They will not mind and are always happy to see little ones . X

winecigsandchoc · 12/12/2018 16:58

Oh shit. Ok- I'm just hesitant as I work for the NHS and it gets drilled into us not to go anywhere near hospitals if norovirus is suspected. I just don't think that's what it is. Thanks. Will take her in.

A&E straight away!

Oddsocksandmeatballs · 12/12/2018 16:58

I would take her now too, don't wait for that call back. I hope she is soon better.

chilledteacher · 12/12/2018 16:59

My DS presented like this and it ended up being appendicitis. Take her, take her now.

PleaseJustSayNo · 12/12/2018 16:59

Try a biscuit in the meantime. Something dry and plain like a digestive. See if she can manage with that. A bit of sugar may just perk her up a bit

AmIRightOrAMeringue · 12/12/2018 16:59

Take her right now. Just go.

111 will call you an ambulance or tell you to go to a and e. If you go right now you will be seen sooner

itswinetime · 12/12/2018 16:59

No you should go to a&e and get her checked

PlonkyPlink · 12/12/2018 16:59

GP here. Go to A&E. Notbpassing urine for almost 24 hours is serious, she may need IV fluids.

Good luck.

Wooooooooaaaaaaaahhhhhhh · 12/12/2018 16:59

Yes.

Wolfiefan · 12/12/2018 17:00

Hope she’s feeling better soon.

BarbarianMum · 12/12/2018 17:00

Take her in, they need to check her to see if she's becoming dehydated.

When ds1 had norovirus he presented a lot like what youre describing - lots of vomit but no diarrhoea til day 3. He ended up in a&e on 2 consecutive nights for rehydration - on the second they noticed he had tonsillitus too and got treatment for that.

He did the floppy thing which is when I took him. He did perk up a little there but I am glad I didnt wait and see.

He was 2 then and is 13 now and its the illest he's ever been, so sympathy. Flowers

BlackInk · 12/12/2018 17:00

Hi OP

It does sound like a sickness bug, pretty normal for kids to be sick over and over for a day or so. But because she's only little she could be at risk of dehydrating.

Have you tried waiting 30 mins after last vomit, then giving just a teaspoon of water/squash/rehydration fluid? You should give teeny amounts at a time with at least 10 mins in between.

Avoid any food until she's been 3 or more hours without being sick.

If she's unresponsive, doesn't wee for a long period or cries without tears I would get her seen. Gently pinch her skin. Does it snap back straight away or stay pinched?

mineofuselessinformation · 12/12/2018 17:00

Even if it is norovirus, she may need to be admitted - dc2 was twice and ended up on a drip the second time.
I hope she feels better soon.

Oddsocksandmeatballs · 12/12/2018 17:01

Offer fluid from a teaspoon if you can, it is more likely to stay down.

AmIRightOrAMeringue · 12/12/2018 17:01

It's nice of you to think about everyone else but go - if you tell them it might be norovirus they may find somewhere else for you to wait away from other people anyway.

LookAtFrostyGo · 12/12/2018 17:01

floppy and not responding = dehyration = hospital. Been there with my DD, you feel like you're over-reacting until you get there and they put a drip straight in to get the fluid up. go. and go now.

Plastictattoo · 12/12/2018 17:04

My DS was kept in because of the green bile. It is an indicator of something the doctor said. After IV fluids, he was allowed home and recovered quickly. So yes, A&E. Hope she is on the mend soon .

lewk · 12/12/2018 17:04

Definitely A&E. Worth bearing in mind it might not be norovirus and could be something else, also sounds a little like intussusception.. but I'm not medical at all.

Anythingforacatslife · 12/12/2018 17:05

Been there, done that - she needs seeing at hospital. Once they become dehydrated it makes it more difficult to keep anything down. They might put her on a drip or try an oral rehydration challenge, depending on how bad she is, we’ve done both multiple times.

Last2Know · 12/12/2018 17:10

I can't believe you would even have to ask, A&E NOW
