Should I take DD to a&e?

DD, aged 2, woke up at 5.30 complaining her tummy hurt. She has been sick more times than I can count since then, and can't keep water down. It's bright yellow/green bile. I phoned 111 and got an emergency gp appointment. GP said that it might be norovirus, albeit with unusual presentation as DD has no diarrhoea. Also the rest of the family is fine and no known outbreaks at nursery. Suggested diaoralite and an ice lolly. Both chucked straight back up after less than five mins.

It will be 24 hours since DD drank and kept it down at 6pm, and 24 hours since she went for a wee at 6.30pm (early bedtime last night). She hasn't eaten all day. She is floppy, not talking to me normally or answering me verbally, just gesturing. She won't sit up under her own steam and her head is flopping over. She is awake. Just not herself at all. No temperature according to GP but she feels warm to me.

I rang back 111 as per gps suggestion and I'm waiting for a clinician to call back, I don't know if I can wait much longer! Freaking out as this is so not like her!

I should hold off going to a&e right??? Talk me down!!!!

Glad to see they are sending an ambulance. Dehydration in little ones is dangerous. I hope she is on the mend soon.

Evilspiritgin · 12/12/2018 17:48

Could she have drunk or eaten something she shouldn’t?

Hope she starts feeling better really soon

These threads drive me insane.

The answer is always get off the internet and get in the car.

Nobody will ever chastise you for taking a poorly two year old to A&E.

OP take your DD and get her checked over for your own piece of mind.

HettyPain · 12/12/2018 17:54

Has the ambulance arrived, and how far are you from hospital?

aibutohavethisusername · 12/12/2018 17:59

Hope little one is ok Flowers

cadburysflake · 12/12/2018 17:59

I'm sure if it is norovirus they'll put you in an isolation room, she'll probably need treating for dehydration anyway so you are right to still go even if it is just that.

I refused to take my children anywhere near the doctors when they had a tummy/sickness bug last week, my mum nagged so much but I knew it wouldn't be fair and they couldn't actually do anything. If either of them were limp and not keeping any fluids down I'd have sought medical help without a doubt.

Hope your daughter is on the mend soon.

AppleJuiceFlood · 12/12/2018 18:02

Glad she’s on her way to hospital. The fact she was floppy and not as responsive is definitely the biggest worry, fingers crossed she just needs some anti sickness meds and some hydration.

Bobbiepin · 12/12/2018 18:04

Poor love. If you have t gone already take your phone charger, you might be there a while.

ChorleyFMcominginyourears · 12/12/2018 18:30

Hope she's ok, sounds like what my daughter had at 18 months, she had rotavirus (apparently most children under 5 get it at least once) she was in hospital days! It was before a vaccine came for out it (she's 10 now) - if they even still do one!

MilkyCuppa · 12/12/2018 18:33

My DS had similar a couple of weeks ago. Ten violent vomiting episodes in the space of one night, unable to keep even water down. The GP sent us to hospital where they rehydrated him with one teaspoon of Dioralyte every five minutes plus his normal milk feeds. We weren’t allowed to go home until he started to urinate and went at least an hour between drinking and vomiting. He vomited maybe 30 times that day.

The vomiting continued at home for four days and was joined by diarrhoea on day 3. The GP checked him every day but ultimately it was a case of preventing dehydration and waiting for him to get better. It was day 5 before he managed to eat some puréed fruit and day 7 before he ate actual proper food.

Apparently it was most likely rotavirus, not norovirus, given the severity and the fact that it affected the baby but DH and I didn’t get sick. I hope your DC feels better soon.

CaptainCabinets · 12/12/2018 18:59

Let us know how she is OP Flowers

Gosh MilkyCuppa that sounds awful! I'm so pleased your little boy is better.

ragged · 12/12/2018 19:25

Poor thing. Hope you can update soon.

ballstoit · 12/12/2018 19:33

Poor little thing. Glad ambulance is on it's way.

Hidillyho · 12/12/2018 19:37

If you need to ask on a forum it means you are worried and if you are worried then go with your instinct. The only thing that will happen if you are wrong is they will send you home!
Glad you are getting an ambulance. I hope your DD gets better soon

madmum5811 · 12/12/2018 19:37

Small children do cause awful frights, so glad she is going to hospital.
