Should I take DD to a&e?

DD, aged 2, woke up at 5.30 complaining her tummy hurt. She has been sick more times than I can count since then, and can't keep water down. It's bright yellow/green bile. I phoned 111 and got an emergency gp appointment. GP said that it might be norovirus, albeit with unusual presentation as DD has no diarrhoea. Also the rest of the family is fine and no known outbreaks at nursery. Suggested diaoralite and an ice lolly. Both chucked straight back up after less than five mins.

It will be 24 hours since DD drank and kept it down at 6pm, and 24 hours since she went for a wee at 6.30pm (early bedtime last night). She hasn't eaten all day. She is floppy, not talking to me normally or answering me verbally, just gesturing. She won't sit up under her own steam and her head is flopping over. She is awake. Just not herself at all. No temperature according to GP but she feels warm to me.

I rang back 111 as per gps suggestion and I'm waiting for a clinician to call back, I don't know if I can wait much longer! Freaking out as this is so not like her!

I should hold off going to a&e right??? Talk me down!!!!

Oh phew phew phew!! Woke up thinking about you - could feel your distress last night. SO glad she’s on the mend. Gah!! They really put us through it, dont they?!! And hurrah for A&E - they are bloody marvellous aren’t they?!

Good news!

Nice outcome:). The most difficult bit is to make that decision to get her to hospital and medical attention in the first place, most everyone dosnet want to make a fuss but there isn't a nurse, doctor in the land worth thier salt who would criticise you for taking a young child in!.

The main issue is that their condition can change, usually worsen, very rapidly.

Glad she’s doing a bit better. Obviously I hope she doesn’t get unwell again in the future but always trust your gut instinct. She’s still little and children can rapidly go downhill. They also don’t display the same signs of serious illness as adults. Trust in yourself. It’s better to get immediate medical attention and it be ok. It’s not like you were taking her for a paper cut or a broken nail. Take care. Flowers
