Should I take DD to a&e?

DD, aged 2, woke up at 5.30 complaining her tummy hurt. She has been sick more times than I can count since then, and can't keep water down. It's bright yellow/green bile. I phoned 111 and got an emergency gp appointment. GP said that it might be norovirus, albeit with unusual presentation as DD has no diarrhoea. Also the rest of the family is fine and no known outbreaks at nursery. Suggested diaoralite and an ice lolly. Both chucked straight back up after less than five mins.

It will be 24 hours since DD drank and kept it down at 6pm, and 24 hours since she went for a wee at 6.30pm (early bedtime last night). She hasn't eaten all day. She is floppy, not talking to me normally or answering me verbally, just gesturing. She won't sit up under her own steam and her head is flopping over. She is awake. Just not herself at all. No temperature according to GP but she feels warm to me.

I rang back 111 as per gps suggestion and I'm waiting for a clinician to call back, I don't know if I can wait much longer! Freaking out as this is so not like her!

I should hold off going to a&e right??? Talk me down!!!!

I hope she's okay OP, so glad you went in.

Lots of great messages but a couple of horrible ones. Looks like the lady who wrote the post just didn't want to bother the hospital. Once people told her to go, then she went. Isn't that what advice is for? Glad you went to the hospital and I really hope your kid is OK.

Frustratedmum78 · 12/12/2018 23:07

Only just seen this. It's so hard to know if you're doing the right thing when kids are sick but your dd needed to be seen. I'm sure she'll feel better when she gets some fluids inside x

SirVixofVixHall · 12/12/2018 23:15

Hope your dd is ok op.

We are home! Paramedic told us to go to a&e, DD was going to be admitted and was sick twice whilst we waited, got seen and assessed, all set for admission and a drip when she fell asleep then when she woke she kept the fluids down she had been having by 5ml so we have been discharged with strict instructions to go back if she doesn't improve

Thank you all SO MUCH X

I hope this means she’s turned a corner and is on the mend. Smile.

I have a daughter the same age and I can imagine how worried you’ve been. Flowers

Wolfiefan · 13/12/2018 07:06

I hope she does improve really soon. Glad you’re home.

littlebillie · 13/12/2018 07:10

Glad she is on the mend, I think most mums have been there it's a scary time.

sparklesaremyfavourite · 13/12/2018 07:30

Poor little one, I'm glad to hear she is improving. Here's to hoping it continues. Bless you both. Flowers

QOD · 13/12/2018 07:34

Glad to hear it 👍🏻

Elephantina · 13/12/2018 07:38

Oh good, been reading with concern...hope she has turned a corner now and had a decent night. Flowers

BarbarianMum · 13/12/2018 07:38

So pleased for you. Without wishing to be the voice of doom you may find that the diarrhoea starts next as the bug moves further down the digestive tract. So do keep her drinking - little and often.

thornyhousewife · 13/12/2018 08:09

Poor little sausage, you both must be exhausted. I hope she's keeping fluids down this morning and makes a very speedy bounce back!

winecigsandchoc · 13/12/2018 08:29

Thank you all again for the kind messages. She slept from 2-7am and has kept fluids down since 11pm last night!

She's eaten some toast and drank several sippy cups of water- looks like she's on the mend! What a scary time it was. She seems much more herself albeit tired and a bit cuddly which is fine by me!

She has been for a wee (!!!!) and a poo. Slightly soft but not runny. So that's all good.

Thank you so much for urging me to go with my instincts. The NHS is amazing. Feeling exhausted today but so so relieved-last night feels like a bad dream!
