Caught speeding again... 3rd time

Hello,
I am stupid. I got caught speeding on motorway which went down to 30mph for works in September. I am allowed to do driver improvement course. I have been caught by a van one month LATER. Yesterday I was on motorway again and I'm sure for a second I was driving at 33mph. I'm so ill and worried. I've been driving 18 years and never been been caught speeding.
I need my car for work, does anyone know if I could admit the third driving offence and pleas guilty but ask for a warning not the points?

OP posts:
DGRossetti · 13/12/2018 11:29

I cant believe the amount of people who say they have never had an oversight of going 3mph over the limit!

The most used gadget on my car is the limiter. My only gripe is that it should be set to come ON with the ignition, rather than expect a manual reminder everytime.

Really!

Yes, really.

Satsumaeater · 13/12/2018 11:30

Bet all you perfect MN drivers park on the stripes right outside school in your land rover discoveries to drop Jonty and Hermione off in the mornings though. But it's ok because you drive at 27mph all the way there

Yes this.

Personally I'd rather people pay attention to the road, drive courteously and give way to pedestrians and give space to cyclists. If they creep up to 22 in a 20 limit or 33 in a 30 limit I just can't excited about it.

Satsumaeater · 13/12/2018 11:33

I was a witness in a court case for generous driving. Defendant was doing at least 100mph and knocked over a cyclist

Oh it's fine if you knock a cyclist off thier bike. Even if you kill them you'll probably escape with a fine. But do 33 in a 30 limit without hurting anyone, and you don't deserve to be on the road! MN is a parallel universe at times.

Satsumaeater · 13/12/2018 11:33

Their not thier.

ExcitedForChristmas18 · 13/12/2018 11:37

Months in hospital, broken back, shattered pelvis, a leg amputation, crippling pain every single day..life changing injuries. All because someone we speeding. DONT EFFING SPEED!!!!!

Chesneyhawkes1 · 13/12/2018 11:37

It's really not a van. It goes to the same place as lorries to be plated.

And plenty of non horse box lorries can go over 60mph. I've had to over taken them on the motorway.

FishesaPlenty · 13/12/2018 11:38

A 7.5tn vehicle is not a lorry. It's a large box van.

Nothing to do with whether you think it's a van or a lorry. Anything over 3500GVW is just an 'LGV' anyway.

Presumably the reason that Chesney's horse box wasn't speed limited is that speed limiters for goods vehicles 3.5t-7.5t only became compulsory in 2008 and I believe still aren't required if the vehicle was registered before October 2001.

Almost all schools round here (and a lot of side roads) are now in a 20mph zone ...

Thesnobbymiddleclassone · 13/12/2018 12:46

DGRossetti

nope. I park properly in the local car park and just have the common sense not to speed as I don't want the fine or the points pushing up my insurance.

Craft1905 · 13/12/2018 13:10

It's really not a van. It goes to the same place as lorries to be plated.

You can drive a 7.5tn vehicle on a normal car licence if you passed your test before 1997. Its a large box van. UK allows vehicles up to 44tn, so 7.5tn is not very big.

FishesaPlenty · 13/12/2018 15:05

You (wrongly) said that it can't be a lorry if it's a horse box. It certainly can't be a box van if it's a horse box can it?

Chesneyhawkes1 · 13/12/2018 15:08

So what's my friends 12 tonne horsebox. An extra large van?

I'm chuffed I had a van that could fit 3 horses on tbh. I was doing well.

Craft1905 · 13/12/2018 15:32

You (wrongly) said that it can't be a lorry if it's a horse box. It certainly can't be a box van if it's a horse box can it?

No it can't. A horsebox is neither a van nor a lorry, regardless of size. It's a horsebox. What I was saying was before your horsebox was a horsebox, at 7.5tn, it wouldn't have been a lorry. It would be a large box van. 7.5tn vehicles can be driven on a normal car licence (if you passed before 1997). Vans can be driven on a car licence, lorries cannot.

stabulous · 13/12/2018 15:35

Lmao

Stop speeding you fucking idiot, it's not difficult.

Chesneyhawkes1 · 13/12/2018 15:44

So if I passed my test after 1997 it's a lorry then? As cannot be driven on a car licence 👍🏻

Chesneyhawkes1 · 13/12/2018 15:48

This was Lenny before he was converted. Looks like a lorry to me. If hit into me and I was describing it to the police, I'd say lorry 🤷🏽‍♀️

Caught speeding again... 3rd time
LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 13/12/2018 15:58

Such judgemental handwringers on here, OP. I'm betting that at least one of them is a moronic parent that can't bear to walk for school pick-up beyond a few yards and endangers everybody else. Not speeding though so sitting in smug judgement. I'd like them off the roads and forced to walk a bit.

If you haven't got one, get a satnav. It has all the fixed cameras on there, keep it updated. Different counties have different speed restrictions and rules about the point at which you'll receive a NIP.

Try not to panic, keep your speed down from now and keep your fingers crossed because from the date you passed the camera - if you were caught speeding - they have 14 days to send you the notification of this. Don't ignore it. You won't get a course again for 3 years if you've been on one in the meantime but, if you've done a course you won't get points for that incident so you're looking at between 3-6 depending on whether you were caught for this latest one.

Try not to speed because your insurance will rocket beyond 3 points.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 13/12/2018 16:00

Oh, Satsumaeater and others have made the same point about school pick-up mums who drive 100 miles a year if that, every short distance, blocking the road and just being dangerous twats.

Craft1905 · 13/12/2018 16:03

If hit into me and I was describing it to the police, I'd say lorry

Well, I never realised you had such conclusive evidence!

madmum5811 · 13/12/2018 16:04

there are some odd threads popping up this afternoon, just asking to be criticised.

FishesaPlenty · 13/12/2018 16:08

No it can't. A horsebox is neither a van nor a lorry, regardless of size.

You're talking rubbish. A lorry is a lorry. The body type makes it a van, flat, curtainsider, livestock carrier, horsebox or whatever.

At 7.5tn, it wouldn't have been a lorry. It would be a large box van. 7.5tn vehicles can be driven on a normal car licence (if you passed before 1997). Vans can be driven on a car licence, lorries cannot.

Aren't you full of rubbish? Have you listened to yourself. Your imaginary definition of 'van' is therefore that it can be driven by someone who, if they'd passed their car test 31 years ago, would have been able to drive it without a further qualification?

So you're basing you definition of vehicle type on an arbitrary qualification which became obselete 31 years ago, rather than the actual vehicle type which we can see with our eyes?

It's a mystery why you're even bothering to argue the point anyway but why on earth are you tying yourself in such knots asserting that black is white when it doesn't even matter?

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 13/12/2018 16:10

madmum, where has OP asked to be criticised? I'm not reading that. But then again, I don't go onto threads looking to give people a kicking like so many seem to.

I read that OP is worried and looking for some reassurance. A speeding incident can have a serious impact to a driver so I gave reassurance. He/she didn't cause an accident so I'm not sure what all the pitchfork waving is for?

DGRossetti · 13/12/2018 16:24

maybe the admitted 3 incidents in close succession ? Suggesting OPs situation isn't a momentary lapse of reason, but just an acquired behaviour ?

I lost any and all tolerance for speeding motorists when I learned of a school on a 30mph road, which clocked 3 cars in one school afternoon doing over 90.

And irrespective of speeding being a cause of accidents, in any accident it makes things a lot worse - as you can imagine a human body being hit at 90mph.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 13/12/2018 16:51

If you spend any time travelling any distances at all, you'll know that actually, it's quite easy to get caught speeding several times in quick succession. Smart motorways change speed limits frequently on some roads.

Irrespective of whether you personally have 'tolerance' for speeding motorists, OP wasn't asking for a lecture or to be told to get off the road with some smug arseholes saying that they will be glad to see them banned. I have zero tolerance for that.

Finally, hitting a human body at anything over 30mph is likely to cause damage/death. 90mph in this instances is pure hyperbole.

Craft1905 · 13/12/2018 16:51

Errr, 2018 - 1997 is 21 years...you genius!
