Caught speeding again... 3rd time

Hello,
I am stupid. I got caught speeding on motorway which went down to 30mph for works in September. I am allowed to do driver improvement course. I have been caught by a van one month LATER. Yesterday I was on motorway again and I'm sure for a second I was driving at 33mph. I'm so ill and worried. I've been driving 18 years and never been been caught speeding.
I need my car for work, does anyone know if I could admit the third driving offence and pleas guilty but ask for a warning not the points?

Obviously though if you were rich and famous you could employ a shit hot lawyer and go any speed you want and get off like lots do. Or if you need your car enough you can accrue loads of points and still drive

One rule for some and another rule for others.

purplelass · 12/12/2018 14:01

For those saying everyone speeds, yes - many do, probably including myself.

BUT

If I got done once because my speed had crept up I'd make damn sure it didn't happen again, once bitten twice shy and all that.

Twice bitten and OP still goes back for more? That's just silly...

bellalou1234 · 12/12/2018 14:02

It's also v interesting how much income these vans and speed camereras generate.

Nah. I would ban you if I were the judge!

And that's why you're not a judge. Because if you were, you'd do things that a judge doesn't have the power to do and you'd get stuck off anyway.

A judge cannot ban you for a third minor speeding offence. And in fact, a judge would never sit on such a case anyway.

EffOrf · 12/12/2018 14:09

I think that OP has one speeding offence not 2 or3 a the moment. The first on with the speeding course. OP hasn’t said she has been notified of the possible 2nd one and the 3rd one may not have been over the limit, DHs speedo is about 3mph out

JustABetterPlayer · 12/12/2018 14:10

I can only assume some of these posters live in the middle of London, are liars or don’t drive. Surveys show nearly 50% of all cars on motorways exceed the speed limit. Data does NOT show that speeding is a major cause of accidents.

NeedSomeTimeInTheSunshiiine · 12/12/2018 14:11

Have you actually done the course yet? I have recently been caught speeding and it was a genuine error of forgetting where the zone changed from 30 to 40. I would say perhaps prior to doing the course I had become maybe a little complacent through driving for a long time - I think that is probably more common than people would admit on here.

I have truly changed my driving after completing the course... I actually think people should be made to do them as a refresher every few years or so. It really refreshed my knowledge and awareness, and I'm actually really glad I did it.

If you HAVE done the course and have since twice been caught, well it's not for me to judge others, but I'd really consider examining your driving habits.

greendale17 · 12/12/2018 14:13

It's also v interesting how much income these vans and speed camereras generate.

^Who care how much income it generates. If people didn’t speed in the first place no income would be generated.

Maryjoyce · 12/12/2018 14:16

With the new system it depends how much you were speeding by as to how big a fine and how many points

Strokethefurrywall · 12/12/2018 14:17

Don't mind me, I'm just here for the overreactions!!

As you were.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 12/12/2018 14:17

I need my car for work

So why did you willingly risk your licence?

newmun · 12/12/2018 14:21

You dont deserve to be on the road

Applepudding2018 · 12/12/2018 14:24

Have you been on the speed awareness course yet? I had to do this and found it really helpful. Generally I'm not the type of person to 'speed' as I find driving fast quite terrifying. However I was very guilty of driving around thinking of other things and never being entirely sure whether the road I was on had a 30 or 40 mph limit.

I learned rules as to the fact that if there are street lights in place, there is a 30 limit unless there are signs saying otherwise. I also learned the idea of driving mindfully e.g. Concentrating on what I was actually doing not planning tomorrow's dinner (or whatever).

GhostSauce · 12/12/2018 14:24

Absolutely zero sympathy here. Stop speeding you dozy mare.

Craft1905 · 12/12/2018 14:28

So why did you willingly risk your licence?

She hasn't risked her licence. She has 3 points, and might have another 3 if caught for this latest episode. That'll be 6, so not even close to risking her licence.

EffOrf · 12/12/2018 14:29

OP it is quite difficult to tell from your posts if you have been notified of the possible 2nd offence. You say a van caught you a month later (than September) and then go on to say think a van caught me 2 weeks ago in a 40 to 30, then third time was 33 again on motorway as first time

binkyblinky · 12/12/2018 14:30

Stop speeding

Craft1905 · 12/12/2018 14:31

speeding around like Louis Hamilton. speeding around like Louis Hamilton.

Firstly, it's Lewis. And secondly, I don't think he'd be very successful if he only went at 33mph and then worried about it for weeks afterwards.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 12/12/2018 14:33

To be fair, speed limits aren't always at all obvious.

My dh got caught in an unfamiliar, not built-up area, and had to go to court. Since it was his first ever speeding offence in over four decades, before the court appearance we drove up and down that stretch of road, looking in vain for any signs or road markings - there was not one in the direction in which he'd been caught.

In the other direction, there were easily visible signs.

At the court one of the ushers told us that he himself had been caught in that section, as had so many others, and there had been masses of complaints about the lack of signs/ markings.

If the point of speed limits is limiting speed, why no signs or road markings? It made no sense, especially when so many people had evidently been unaware of the limit and caught there.

On a subsequent trip a couple,of years of years later, signs and markings had finally appeared on that particular stretch of road, so all the complaints must have had an effect.

WhoTookTheChristmasCookie · 12/12/2018 14:41

@Craft1905 oh consider me well and truly told off - I made a spelling mistake. Criminal.

Still stand by my point.
Plenty of years on the road and I've not received one penalty for speeding (or any other motoring offence for that matter.)

Me and the authorities are in total agreement, I've not mentioned the amount of times OP has been caught speeding - just the fact that if you can't stick to the limit then you shouldn't be on the road.

sunglasses123 · 12/12/2018 14:47

There are some terribly smug people who never speed or do occasionally and don't get 'caught'.

There are some awful signage places. Road from the M40 into High Wycombe goes from 50 then 40 then 30 in very quick succession.

Make no mistake. This is a big revenue generator for the government. It also depends how many miles you do a year as well.

crimsonlake · 12/12/2018 14:47

I know someone who got points for doing 31 in a 30 zone.

Zampa · 12/12/2018 14:47

I was a witness in a court case for generous driving. Defendant was doing at least 100mph and knocked over a cyclist. Despite finally pleading guilty to careless driving on the day of the hearing, the defendant kept his licence and only got a fine because he drove for work.

You'll be fine OP.

Craft1905 · 12/12/2018 14:48

Me and the authorities are in total agreement, I've not mentioned the amount of times OP has been caught speeding - just the fact that if you can't stick to the limit then you shouldn't be on the road.

But that's not what the authorities say. They allow you stay on the road if you can't stick to the limit. You can have 3 speeding convictions and one speed awareness course in 3 years and still stay on the road. And the OP is nowhere near that. She has 1 speeding offence and 1 speed awareness course.

MirandaGoshawk · 12/12/2018 14:49

Stop worrying! It's not the end of the world! Wait until you get the letter, if you do get one, and it will set out your options. At least, what happened with me recently (37 in a 30mph limit) is that the first letter was pretty scary and said they were taking me to court, and was it me that was driving that car. When I wrote back admitting it, they then offered me the choice of points and a fine, or a Speed Awareness course and no points. I took the course last week and it was brilliant (is that what you mean by a Driver Improvement course?). It was a new course that they are rolling out, very informative and educational, and rather than an emphasis on punishment, they look at why people speed and what can be done to help them keep to the limits. We worked in groups and I learnt a lot. Hopefully one day, speeding will be looked on the same way as drink driving is now. But until then, we all have to try to know the speed limits and stick to them, regardless of the sod up your exhaust pipe (leave more space between you and the car in front) or whatever it is that makes you speed.
