Caught speeding again... 3rd time

Hello,
I am stupid. I got caught speeding on motorway which went down to 30mph for works in September. I am allowed to do driver improvement course. I have been caught by a van one month LATER. Yesterday I was on motorway again and I'm sure for a second I was driving at 33mph. I'm so ill and worried. I've been driving 18 years and never been been caught speeding.
I need my car for work, does anyone know if I could admit the third driving offence and pleas guilty but ask for a warning not the points?

OP posts:

OP, ignore the OTT sweary-oh-so-perfect PPs, who I'm sure have NEVER strayed over the speed limit momentarily or broken any rules on the road. 🙄

I find that Sat Nav or Waze on my mobile is good for a more accurate indication of true speed. Also if you have cruise control, use it on motorways whenever possible.

I've been caught once. By a static camera. I was CONVINCED the road I was on was 40mph and sailed past the GATSO at 37mph, to get flashed and learn it was in fact a 30mph, I happened to miss the speed change sign. My fault, but I'm only human. We all make mistakes.

Take the speed course to avoid the points. Then you'll have to take the other 6 points on the chin sadly.

PatriciaHolm · 12/12/2018 12:01

So you don't know if you were actually "caught speeding" yesterday?

Your first offence resulted in no points.

What happened in the second?

Worry about the third if it happens. If it was your speedo that read 33, you were probably doing 30 (speedos normally over read a little). If you got that from your SatNav, it's probably correct.

And stop speeding, obviously.....

Mulberry72 · 12/12/2018 12:01

No sympathy here either, my friends DS was killed by a speeding driver. He was only 6 and it destroyed my friend.

I hope you lose your licence.

Villanellesproudmum · 12/12/2018 12:01

@loveka I was on that part of the motorway recently and agree it’s really misleading, people were speeding up and slowing down in the confusion so you’re not the only one I suspect it’ll catch 100s

viques · 12/12/2018 12:04

i'm so ill and worried

Though not ill and worried enough to change your dangerous habits.

If you have been 'unlucky' enough to be caught speeding on the only three occasions when you were speeding then I will eat my hat.

You are a habitual speeder, who clearly takes no notice of current road conditions, has no sense of responsibility and does not understand how to drive safely on any road let alone a motorway .

I sincerely hope there is another letter winging its way to you which will bring your points total up to disqualification level.

EdisonLightBulb · 12/12/2018 12:05

There's no such thing as just a warning. worse case scenario you have a driver awareness course and 6 points on your licence.

If it's any consolation I have been driving 33 years and never had any points, then early one Saturday morning when I wasn't paying attention I drove up a 30 mph road and back down at 34. TBH I thought it was a 40 but no excuse. A police van clocked me going up and coming down so two tickets. A month later, clearly not having learnt my lesson I was caught again early on a Saturday morning somewhere else doing 34 in a 30.

I ended up with six points and a driver awareness course. The first in decades of driving. I was mortified.

Lesson has now been learnt, I am very very conscious of speed limits everywhere and now have a clean licence again.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 12/12/2018 12:07

You can get a sat nav app on your phone that will recognise speed limits and alarm if you go over.
This will not only avoid you speeding but also "retrain" your awareness of your speed.
Using this has made me feel that 30 is "right" while before i used it, 30 felt "slow" and 35 (speeding!) felt "right"

greendale17 · 12/12/2018 12:08

3 incidents of speeding since September.

You obviously don’t care.

adaline · 12/12/2018 12:08

At 3mph over the limit you might be okay (as in, it might not trigger a letter/fine/points from police.

But if it does, you won't be able to ask for a warning (which doesn't even exist) - this will be your third offence in three months!

MattFreisCheekyDimples · 12/12/2018 12:11

If it really was 33 in a 30 zone you'll be fine. The leeway is 10%+2.

lynnepot · 12/12/2018 12:11

Wow you lot are really putting the boot into Op here Shock

cjt110 · 12/12/2018 12:13

Stop fucking speeding then

Satsumaeater · 12/12/2018 12:15

OP, ignore the OTT sweary-oh-so-perfect PPs, who I'm sure have NEVER strayed over the speed limit momentarily or broken any rules on the road

Quite.

Years ago I did an icebreaker where we had to stand one one side of the room if we'd ever broken a law and the other side if we hadn't. All of us bar one person said we had. She said she never had, not even speeding

After the event I followed her some of the way home as she lived close to me. She drove over 30 mph in an obviously 30 limit.

Glasshouses and stones and all that.

adaline · 12/12/2018 12:15

Of course in MN-land nobody would ever go a whole 3mph over the speed limit Hmm it's probably not even noticeable to most people!

KitKat1985 · 12/12/2018 12:15

I think some posters here are getting a bit carried away. 33 in a 30 zone is easily done, and hardly constitutes some of the comments here.

rubaduhlo · 12/12/2018 12:17

I kind of agree with people being a bit OTT with OP! We are all human, yes. I'm sure we've all gone over slightly. I for sure have been caught once. However, this is the 3rd time SINCE September! I don't think op cares about anyone but herself otherwise they wouldn't have done it 3 times!

Lunde · 12/12/2018 12:19

I don't think they will prosecute you for doing 33 in a 30 zone.

But you need to be more aware of your speed if you have had several incidents in 3 months

JustABetterPlayer · 12/12/2018 12:20

To the person above who said I hope you lose your license good god get a grip woman. We are talking about 33mph.... I doubt that there is a single driver in the UK who has never broken any part of the Highway Code (I think most seem oblivious to a lot of it).

Coldilox · 12/12/2018 12:22

No you can’t ask for a warning.

33mph may not trigger a camera anyway. If it does, that would be 6 points (none for the first offence, three for second and then three for this). You won’t lose your licence. Just be more careful in the future.

MaxTeyon · 12/12/2018 12:22

You’d have to be very unlucky to get done for 33 in a 30.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 12/12/2018 12:24

It’s very unlikely you were actually doing over 30mph if your speedo was reading 33mph. If you have satnav that will give you a more accurate reading of your speed.

CloserIAm2Fine · 12/12/2018 12:26

Hopefully the amount of worry you have currently will finally get you to stop speeding! Since previous offences clearly haven’t.

It’s not just the speed (33 in a 30 is hardly newsworthy) it’s the habitual lack of attention that is most worrying and dangerous.

Melamin · 12/12/2018 12:26

Use your cruise control if you have it..

Very useful for this sort of situation, I hear.

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 12/12/2018 12:26

Not to mention - 33 mph on a motorway is a lot different to 33 mph outside a school.

And it’s six not 9 points.

picklemebaubles · 12/12/2018 12:26

You can get an app on your phone that pings if you reach the speed limit. You may find that helpful.
