Caught speeding again... 3rd time

Hello,
I am stupid. I got caught speeding on motorway which went down to 30mph for works in September. I am allowed to do driver improvement course. I have been caught by a van one month LATER. Yesterday I was on motorway again and I'm sure for a second I was driving at 33mph. I'm so ill and worried. I've been driving 18 years and never been been caught speeding.
I need my car for work, does anyone know if I could admit the third driving offence and pleas guilty but ask for a warning not the points?

My husband had to do a speed awareness course, after he was caught doing 73 on the motorway. The annoying thing was, he'd been doing 70, but had to overtake a lorry that was overtaking another lorry, so sped up a little bit to get past, and then went back to 70.

Lorries are electronically limited to 56mph, so that yarn he spun you isn't true.

But lorries are limited to 56 miles an hour Hmm

@Craft1905 Okay...

Caught twice, is aware that she was speeding a third time - thinks she might have been caught again.

Still three too many times though isn't it? Or is speeding something so prevalent in your day to day life that it's become a moot point; as long as you don't get caught?
I have absolutely no sympathy or tolerance for people who cannot stick to the very basic rules of the road.

When you've had friends/family injured by dickheads who think the rules don't apply to them your outlook tends to change.

@bellalou1234 You're the only one to blame. If the road is notorious for 'catching people out' then you should be extra vigilant. Once is maybe an oversight.
Twice? Ignorance.

Stompythedinosaur · 12/12/2018 16:44

If you do a speed awareness course for the first offence you won't get points. You will then, in a worst case scenario, get points for the next 2 offences, giving a total or 6 points. It isn't ideal, but certainly not the end of the world. Just drive more carefully in future.

ConcreteUnderpants · 12/12/2018 19:47

an oversight 2 occasions on a road that is notorious for this, finining people and generating huge income to failing councils what have u.

You mean breaking the law??

Anyway, surely if it's that notorious, you should be even more aware, no?

anniehm · 12/12/2018 20:54

At 33 I doubt you will be ticketed - there's a tolerance on speed cameras as car speedos aren't perfect. I know the ones near me are set at 35 because the chief constable told me (it varies county to county though)

Motoko · 12/12/2018 22:03

But lorries are limited to 56 miles an hour

Not a yarn, as I was with him in the car, and noticed his speed because I saw the van on the bridge above, but didn't think he'd get done, as I thought there was that leeway that others have mentioned.

He put his foot down a bit to get past them, because other cars had been bombing past us in the fast lane.

Aquilla · 12/12/2018 22:15

'Lorries are electronically limited to 56mph'.
Aah, the naivity of Mumsnetters...

CheshireChat · 12/12/2018 22:17

Well, you can feel proud you've added to the local council's pot.

How much they make out of fines is pretty irrelevant, the fact you got caught (and you've probably done it other times, but got away with it) 3 times in as many months really isn't great.

Ballbags · 12/12/2018 22:28

I'm a Community Speedwatch volunteer, we are only allowed to report on cars doing 36mph+ in a 30mph area. So it's very, very unlikely you will be done for 33mph, unless the fact you've been caught twice so recently is a factor.

GiantKitten · 12/12/2018 22:39

God there are some sanctimonious twats on MN Hmm

BeanBagLady · 12/12/2018 22:59

3mph above a 30 limit on a stretch of motorway and some MNers are frothing away about being a danger to children playing in the road...

Honestlyofficer · 12/12/2018 23:33

Land sakes people.. It's not like she was Thelma-and-Loiuiseing down the motorway at 120, zigzagging around slow cars.
She did 33 in a 30 zone. I've done that overtaking a bicycle.

Anyone who hasn't lost track of their speed for a moment (particularly when you are in a normal 40 zone) needs to go and get their halo serviced.

OP, do the course, forgive yourself, and carry on. You're only human.

ThePants999 · 12/12/2018 23:40

@Strokethefurrywall Grin these threads are brilliant, aren't they? Society is on the very brink of collapse courtesy of OP.

DaffydownClock · 12/12/2018 23:48

You could plead that you're very slow at learning your lesson I suppose.....
Makes me wonder if you ever take any notice of the speed limit!

Chesneyhawkes1 · 12/12/2018 23:52

Not all lorries. My 7.5 tonne horse box wasn't limited to anything 🤷🏽‍♀️ when empty could easily do 70 mph

garethsouthgatesmrs · 13/12/2018 00:08

firstly as some have said the 10% leeway is a myth. Many counties are zero tolerance

justabetterplayer speed is the single biggest cause of road accidents in the UK. If we took all speeding cars off the road roughly 1000 people wouldn't have died last year. 3mph does make a difference if you are hit by a car that would have stopped in time if not speeding

AlessandroVasectomi · 13/12/2018 00:11

My son was caught twice within a short space of time and had to go to court rather than plead guilty by post. Because the magistrates thought he wasn't taking the speed limit seriously, he was banned for 14 days. This was in Surrey.

Jeanclaudejackety · 13/12/2018 00:24

I swear smart motorways are just a way of making money by catching people out. Sometimes the one near me goes from national speed limit to 40mph literally in a split second it must be more dangerous to slam your brakes on to avoid the camera flashing you than actually going over 40mph!

Jeanclaudejackety · 13/12/2018 00:27

Bet all you perfect MN drivers park on the stripes right outside school in your land rover discoveries to drop Jonty and Hermione off in the mornings though. But it's ok because you drive at 27mph all the way there 😅

Craft1905 · 13/12/2018 09:25

Not all lorries. My 7.5 tonne horse box wasn't limited to anything 🤷🏽‍♀️ when empty could easily do 70 mph

That's probably because it's not a lorry.

Craft1905 · 13/12/2018 09:52

Lorries are electronically limited to 56mph

Aah, the naivity of Mumsnetters

Aaah, the denial of basic facts

Chesneyhawkes1 · 13/12/2018 10:04

It was a converted post office lorry. A Leyland DAF. What else is it if not a lorry?

Craft1905 · 13/12/2018 11:13

A 7.5tn vehicle is not a lorry. It's a large box van. A normal van being 3.5tn. And a horsebox of any size is not a lorry, it's a horsebox. Even if it was once a lorry.

Satsumaeater · 13/12/2018 11:28

Lorries are quite clearly not limited to 56 as they often do 60! Some may be limited to 100kpm if they go overseas, but not all of them.

speed is the single biggest cause of road accidents in the UK

evidence for this? I'd have said it was inattention
