To those whose DP's snore, how do you sleep?

How do you work around the issue and sleep? My lovely DP snores terribly and I'm the lightest sleeper. I'd just like to know how others try and solve the issue if you have it?

In another room. I dread nights when we have to share. It's really put my Mum off ever asking to stay because she knows what the consequence is so not all bad.

DramaAlpaca · 08/12/2018 23:02

We have separate rooms. When we share a room it's ear plugs for me and a nose strip for him. Apparently I snore too, but I'm sure it's just him Wink

thenightsky · 08/12/2018 23:02

I can only wear earplugs for one night as they make my ears so very sore inside. Then I need at least 7 nights to recover.

So I drink vodka to knock myself out. That doesn't always work so I spend the night yanking his pillow to make his head whip to one side or shoving the duvet over his head or into his mouth.

Luckily he gets up early (he's a lark to my night owl). This means I get to sleep properly (with dreams) from 6am to getting up time.

Crunched · 08/12/2018 23:04

I think it is cute, and after 30 years just see it as a comforting backdrop to my slumbers. He only tends to do it on nights we have had alcohol.

Earplugs big sometimes I can hear him over ear plugs I which case I poke him until he rolls in his side and then wedge him that way. His lucky I love him otherwise he’d be dead by now because I need my sleep !

OP I could have written this! Shock This evening DH is on blow up bed on my suggestion as he's been out drinking. I don't think he's very happy but like you I'm a light sleeper and I know the minute the lights out the snoring will start and I've no chance of even getting to sleep in the first place! I'm soooo jealous of you lot who have a spare room!

Japanese I'm sorry Thanks

clary · 08/12/2018 23:05

Ha! Badly. Best thing is to go to bed before him and drop off quickly. But I'm a bit of an owl so it doesn't work well.

Those of you who wear ear plugs, do you still hear your alarm?

DH deffo worse when he has been drinking -anyone else find this? He breathes in and out through his mouth when asleep which I think causes it - can anything be done?

SupremeDreamz · 08/12/2018 23:06

My DP (slim and fit) snores like a road drill. Fortunately I sleep very soundly but unless I drop off first it can be troublesome!

Gently nudging him helps, juuuust enough to make him move around, not to wake him or I get the "what are you doing to me" routine. Over time though he moves rather than wakes when I move him, and I'm not doing it that often, so maybe worth a go!

Lozz22 · 08/12/2018 23:06

Japanesejazz Thanks

Bunnymumma · 08/12/2018 23:15

DH uses a snoring spray that stops it for a couple of hours, so I can get off to sleep before he starts. It works pretty well!

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 08/12/2018 23:16

Fine because I jab him with my elbow and he stops Xmas Grin

ChristmasWrappingTheWaitresses · 08/12/2018 23:17

We have our own bedrooms. Mine is a purple fragrant retreat and his is a bit of a mess to be honest but it doesn't bother me because my bedroom is not.

Chocolatebourbons · 08/12/2018 23:17

Earplugs or seperate room.

Justbackfromnewwine · 08/12/2018 23:19

I’m ok if I’m asleep first (which I normally am) or if not, the spare room for me if poking him and telling him to roll over doesn’t work. But separate bedrooms is my dream with no visitation rights

Slipperboots · 08/12/2018 23:20

I push DHs shoulder from underneath and he knows to roll over. He doesn’t believe he snores but if he sleeps on his back he could wake the dead.

DollyPomPoms · 08/12/2018 23:20

I’m on my fifth year of sleeping on the sofa....

Lia73 · 08/12/2018 23:21

I have this problem too! Could just about sleep through it before but now we have an 8 month old who sleeps in the room too in his cot. He wakes a few times in the night too so I can't just go off and sleep in the sitting room. We have no spare room 😭😭. I can only dream of a peaceful night's sleep.

mummymayhem18 · 08/12/2018 23:26

Our own bedrooms!! Not very romantic, but we both need our sleep.

Longdistance · 08/12/2018 23:30

I go to sleep in the spare bedroom 😴

Best ever, as I get the bed to myself.

MotherofKitties · 08/12/2018 23:34

Earplugs. My FH snores every night and it drives me up the wall if I don't have earplugs. The blue 'hearos' ones are the only ones that work for me. They're an important part of keeping my sanity and marriage together...!

U2HasTheEdge · 08/12/2018 23:37

Separate rooms. He has actually got a hospital appointment for snoring this month though.

thenightsky · 08/12/2018 23:38

Those of you who drop off to sleep first, how the hell do you stay asleep with that racket going on? I get woken every 10 bloody mins by the vibration and noise. Angry Once he wakes me, I cannot get off again.

Maelstrop · 08/12/2018 23:40

I move into the spare room on a bad night

Same. Sheer bliss, but if I tough it out, I actually sleep better and later because our room is blacked out and the spare isn't as dark. I dread people staying because I can't escape.

Blockyiursekf · 08/12/2018 23:40

No spare room and have slept through alarm on more than one occasion due to wearing earplugs

Consequently I am awake most of the night and threatening divorce if he doesn't go to doctors. 😫

thenightsky · 08/12/2018 23:42

I'm currently sat on the sofa, with the telly on and the door shut. He's gone to bed and shut the bedroom door. I can hear him snoring now, through two closed doors and the hall, stairs and landing. Shall I even bother to go up?
