To those whose DP's snore, how do you sleep?

How do you work around the issue and sleep? My lovely DP snores terribly and I'm the lightest sleeper. I'd just like to know how others try and solve the issue if you have it?

How long did it take you to get used to ear plugs?

Not very. At all. (partly because I was knackered from sleep deprivation...) now I love them. Wear them to sleep in. Wear them on public transport to drown out the hell that is other people. Sometimes wear them at work if I need to get something done (open plan office = least productive thing ever) but not often in case I look really antisocial.

MattieB19 · 08/12/2018 22:24

I'm sorry to hear that, JapaneseJazz.

Separate rooms except when on holiday when I have to wear the horrible wax earplugs to even begin to deaden the horrendous noise he makes. I have been known to take a blanket and try to sleep ina bathtub. And I am not that light a sleeper, he is just horrificly noisy.
He has tried a few things over the years to sort it but nothing has made a significant difference....and he won't press it with the GP. I think he has some form of sleep apnoea to be honest.
The whole situation has been extremely detrimental to intimacy on our marriage and after 9 years together I feel like I'm living with a housemate rather than a husband ☹️

twoheaped · 08/12/2018 22:30

We have our own rooms.
Bliss!!

Fluffytheevil1 · 08/12/2018 22:30

I kick him. I warn him if it continues I’ll shove him on the floor. I don’t obviously do that but I’d like to . Sometimes he snores as he breathes In and out. Confused

gamerchick · 08/12/2018 22:31

I have my own bedroom.

Now he has his CPAP I will occasionally go in with him for a cuddle but I love my bedroom.

Someone who knows they snore and won't try to get it sorted is selfish.

MattieB19 · 08/12/2018 22:31

I wear earplugs and over ear headphones with white noise and still hear it. It's partly my fault as I'm awfully sensitive to noise :( Even switching the kitchen light switch in the room below wakes me.

And putting himself at risk of a heart attack.

mum11970 · 08/12/2018 22:34

In a different room.

MorningsEleven · 08/12/2018 22:34

Snoring is pure evil. Snooooooort oh look at me all snuuuuurf asleep hurgh while you're hoooonk lying await and plotting my death. Wankers.

LoadsaBlusher · 08/12/2018 22:35

In the spare room or I would get zero sleep
I can hear him even with industrial highest decibel available earplugs in.

CleverWittyUsername · 08/12/2018 22:37

Spare room. Plus I have earplugs and TV/music. Can still hear it most nights though. His noise level is unreal, usually when he's gained weight or has a cold.

LoadsaBlusher · 08/12/2018 22:43

Yes I can still hear my DP through the wall in another room even with ear plugs in , but it’s muted to a tolerable level.
When we go on holiday I sleep in with one of the DC.

He’s tried nose clips / nose patches strips etc
He’s a slim athletic build so nothing to do with weight so I think it’s just one of those unlucky things
If I had to share a bed every night I would go insane .
The odd time we get a night out away at a hotel for birthdays etc it’s the one part I dread - the snoring aaaahhh.

ForAMinuteThere · 08/12/2018 22:45

Ear plugs and white noise and telling myself that it really doesn't matter sometimes...

SisterOfDonFrancisco · 08/12/2018 22:48

I go to bed first. thankfully DH is a night owl so I'm usually fast asleep by the time he goes to bed.

80sMum · 08/12/2018 22:49

Earplugs for the first 20 years; then the sofabed downstairs for 3 years and finally (after both DCs had left home) separate bedrooms for the past 17 years!!

BackWhenIWas4 · 08/12/2018 22:52

I wear headphones and listen to an app called 'hear' which converts background noise, including snoring, into more soothing sounds.

ThatOneHurt · 08/12/2018 22:52

He sleeps on the sofa. Everyone is happier.

Ear plugs always came out. My stupid ears couldn't keep them in.

But the thing that causes DH's snoring was smoking. And it also causes disgusting phlegmy coughs which he would do at night into my face, so if he wishes to carry on smoking then he can do so and sleep on the sofa.
We all sleep better.
I think it would be nicer if we had separate rooms but we don't have that option currently.

drspouse · 08/12/2018 22:55

We both snore Confused though he claims I'm worse.
I shove him, and use ear plugs if it's really bad. I get very sore ears if I use them all the time, which is awkward as I go noisy places for work sometimes.
He uses ear plugs all the time. He just got me some Nytol throat spray which is RANK but he claims it helps.

Sanblasamor · 08/12/2018 22:56

In a different room. Sleeping is more important to me than sharing a bed!

MrsPeacockDidIt · 08/12/2018 22:57

Spare room here too otherwise our marriage would have ended years ago. I can’t wear ear plugs as the skin gets irritated and also it didn’t really help block out the noise. We sleep in the same pod when we camp but he seems not to snore so much and we’ve no idea why. When we have guests and have to share a bed I spend almost the entire night prodding him. Sleep deprivation is hell

Toomuchworking · 08/12/2018 22:58

Good ear plugs and a swift kick when it wakes me up. After 11 years together I FINALLY worked out that he actually doesn't snore if he lies on his right side - you could get him to try sleeping in different positions.
The best nights are when the toddler clambers into bed with us. If husband doesn't wake me up snoring, toddler wakes me up with, "Mummy...mummy...mummeeeeee. Daddy's snoring."

alltoomuchrightnow · 08/12/2018 22:58

We both do but he is worse. I use silicon ear plugs but they don't always work. Foam ones do nothing and pop out.
He often sleeps on the sofa.

ImportantWater · 08/12/2018 23:00

I poke him to make him turn over - often he stops if not on his back, or if he turns to a different side.
If it’s too much I go and sleep in the spare bedroom. Or if he is compos mentis enough he will offer to sleep in the spare room, but usually he is too stupid with sleep.

Mamabearx4 · 08/12/2018 23:01

Sleep?
