To think nobody actually likes sprouts and it's a huge conspiracy

I did this thread last year but it got ruined by all the NASALTs that troll this forum. Everyone knows they are the worst part of Xmas dinner and take up valuable plate space which could have something tasty instead. Hoping this year that MN has come to its senses.

If sprouts are cooked for more than 5 minutes they start to become bitter/ the longer you cook them over 5 minutes the more bitter they become

Sprouts.....mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

gamerchick · 02/12/2018 18:00

I'm doing the Marmite sprouts tonight, frozen but pan fried jobbies. I think people think sprouts = boiled to tasteless things for some reason. Theres other ways to cook them.

BlackBeltInPresentWrapping · 02/12/2018 18:03

Years ago, I knew a woman with a greengrocer's shop, and she used to eat sprouts raw, biting into them like mini apples. Respect.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 02/12/2018 18:07

We have Yorkshire puddings with Christmas dinner as we have beef as prefer it to turkey

I don’t understand why people like to eat mini gone off tasting cabbages 🤢 I think they are the runts of cabbage families biging themselves up and people have fallen for it

amusedbush · 02/12/2018 18:59

frozen but pan fried jobbies

I wouldn’t say that too loudly in Scotland, if I were you. Jobbie is poop up here 💩😂

(And yes, I laughed at your pan fried poop when I read the post 😁)

Seems an apt description to me.

Sprouts and turkey are both crap.

Christmas dinner was clearly invented to keep the sprout and turkey farmers in business as everyone feels obliged to have them to keep up the tradition.

Clever marketing.

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 02/12/2018 19:28

Ooh i love sprouts

Tattybear16 · 02/12/2018 19:31

I love sprouts, we will be having some on the Christmas dinner. Everyone will get a token sprout, I’m the only one who likes them in my family. I’m evil😂😂😂. You don’t clear your plate, you get to clear away.

feellikeanalien · 02/12/2018 19:33

I love sprouts but DD and DP hate them. Except when I make sprout and chestnut soup!!!

Wejustdontknow · 02/12/2018 19:47

My 12 year old ds loves them, only one in the house to like them though so I will only cook them on Christmas Day. He is a strange child as they are definitely the work of the devil

joystir59 · 02/12/2018 19:52

I love sprouts

oblada · 02/12/2018 19:52

Didn't like sprouts until my (Indian) DH cooked them on the pan and it's yum!!!

constantlywingingit · 02/12/2018 20:04

I love sprouts.

Didn't until I was about 24 but now I could eat tonnes of them. Especially roasted with salt and garlic Grin

Isleepinahedgefund · 02/12/2018 20:17

Sprout soup is yummy. You do have be careful to add the sprouts for the last couple of minutes only, or you might end up with farty soup.

I think that's my main issue with sprouts, they turn farty tasting very easily if not cooked correctly.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 02/12/2018 21:36

hated them as a kid made me gag and i had many a battle with my lovely mum over eating the 'fairy cabbages' but i just couldn't. fast forward to age 21 eating sunday dinner at then boyfriends and instead of food in tureens to help yourself all the food was on the plate.... including sprouts i had a bit of a panic but started to eat them and found i quite liked them, loved them ever since.

also remember my DS2 who was one of those poor deprived of sweets and chocolate types being asked what treats he wanted at his 6th birthday party and he asked for sprouts Grin we felt very smug Grin managed to persuade him that his friends might not enjoy them so offered a compromise with chocolate biscuits for the party and sprouts as part of dinner the next day.

DameSquashalot · 02/12/2018 21:38

I love sprouts

Escolar · 02/12/2018 21:39

DS2 and I were fighting over the last few sprouts at lunchtime today! They are my favourite vegetable.

ILoveDolly · 02/12/2018 21:41

Love sprouts! And enchanted by how they grow too, they're an undervalued veg apart from their starring Christmas dinner job.

SoleBizzz · 02/12/2018 21:41

Just had sprouts with our lamb dinner..

❤ long live the sprout! ❤

Oogle · 02/12/2018 21:41

I love sprouts and I actually love them over cooked. I like them mushy.
Normally I like my veg really crunchy, but not sprouts.

Longdistance · 02/12/2018 21:42

Bollocks!

I love sprouts.

My mum even made sprout stew 😋 it was delicious 😋

anniehm · 02/12/2018 21:43

Milliy · 02/12/2018 22:20

Love them and then make sprout soup Blush
