To think nobody actually likes sprouts and it's a huge conspiracy

I did this thread last year but it got ruined by all the NASALTs that troll this forum. Everyone knows they are the worst part of Xmas dinner and take up valuable plate space which could have something tasty instead. Hoping this year that MN has come to its senses.

OP posts:

We all like them - my dh positively loves them, but things do certainly taste different to different people.
I can't bear tea with milk - it tastes absolutely vile to me, so that's a less common example.

WobblyWomblingChristmas · 03/12/2018 17:54

Love them! Have to be small, tight leaved and not over-cooked though

JemSynergy · 03/12/2018 18:52

I love them.

christmaschristmaschristmas · 03/12/2018 18:54

Love sprouts. I hear on MN etc lots of 'no one likes them' but in real life when we sit for dinner (25 of us) everyone has them and has seconds of them....

whatamessitallis · 03/12/2018 18:54

I ate one a year at Christmas to try, even though I hated them. After about 20 years, things changed and now.... I think they're just about OK.

It's been about 20 years of thinking they're OK.
Perhaps I'm due an upgrade to actually liking them sometime soon...

BaconAndAvocado · 03/12/2018 19:02

Love sprouts! They're delicious raw too.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 03/12/2018 19:08

I love sprouts, they are my favourite vegetable,

I agree with everyone who has said the above. Sprouts are amazing! Green, tasty and just slightly al dente.

Wonderful! And are delicious in a cheese sauce the following day, in the unlikely event that they haven't all been scoffed first time round.

MissionItsPossible · 03/12/2018 19:15

You won't have to worry after Brexit OP as there will be no more Brussels.

florascotia2 · 03/12/2018 19:29

Shredded, lightly stir-fried, with toasted slivered almonds or, even better, toasted hazelnuts.

Or quickly shredded and lightly steamed then mixed with home-made roughly mashed potatoes (olive oil) with parmesan (or any grated strong cheese) and garlic and lots of black pepper.

Or chopped and stir fried with spring onions and sliced mushrooms and soy sauce ( plus chopped green pepper, if you like it). A beaten egg or two stirred in at the end of cooking, then the whole served with brown or wild rice, makes it a meal.

As previous posters have said, also v good raw and shredded in salads. Friend of mine used to make excellent coleslaw-type salad with brussels sprouts, oil, yoghurt and orange juice and zest.

greenpop21 · 03/12/2018 20:11

Buunylover · 03/12/2018 20:12

I adore sprouts and would eat them every day. One of my fav things to eat is fish fingers and sprouts on oven bottom muffins!

frankie001 · 03/12/2018 20:42

frankie001 · 03/12/2018 20:43

I had an ex who made pickled sprouts with chillies. They were excellent

wolfmom · 03/12/2018 20:46

Another sprout lover here

Flamingosnbears · 03/12/2018 20:54

Nope absolutely LOVE them

Mirkobaba · 03/12/2018 21:43

Could someone pls explain why they make them for xmas dinner if they hate them? Our xmas dinner is Broccoli soup (w/lardons and croutons), duck, roast veggies, potatoes, cranberry sauce and a choc cake at the end. It might not be that "traditional", but we love it.
And my DH loves sprouts so i cook them at least once a week when they are in season :)

April2020mom · 03/12/2018 21:53

I’m addicted to sprouts beans etc. The secret is to make sure that you don’t overcook them. Sautéed and roasted sprouts taste quite good actually.

WinterfellWench · 03/12/2018 22:16

@Blackbeltinpresentwrapping

NASALT....

Not all sprouts are like that. [santa]

THANK YOU! Grin

Troels · 03/12/2018 22:39

I love them too. Anytime, not just Christmas.

MiniMum97 · 03/12/2018 23:26

I love sprouts too! Yummy!

thegreylady · 04/12/2018 00:08

I love sprouts. When I was very small my dad told me they were special fairy cabbages that were the fairies’ Christmas present to us! We never had them before Christmas .
Parsnips roasted are ok but boiling or steaming they smell of cat wee.
