To think nobody actually likes sprouts and it's a huge conspiracy

I did this thread last year but it got ruined by all the NASALTs that troll this forum. Everyone knows they are the worst part of Xmas dinner and take up valuable plate space which could have something tasty instead. Hoping this year that MN has come to its senses.

Yabu! I like sprouts! I find my family only tolerate like them if they are what I consider overcooked but if left lightly steamed then yum!

Ginkythefangedhellpigofdoom · 02/12/2018 10:56

I really like sprouts! Baby sprouts are nicer in my opinion.

They are among my favourite vegetables.

They do need to be cooked nicely though as with all veg if you boil hell out them they aren't that nice.

Roast them with cashew nuts and (if a meat eater) bacon = amazing

Cut into halves or quarters and done in the oven (with other veg) with cheese sauce = lovely

Shredded and added to pasta or a warm salad etc = yummy

Boiled or steamed correctly =nice

greendale17 · 02/12/2018 10:56

Hate them. Don’t know anyone that likes sprouts

AmIthatbloodycold · 02/12/2018 10:57

A sprout is for life, not just for Christmas. I love them

What's a NASALT?

Branleuse · 02/12/2018 10:57

I like sprouts and so do my children.
Even ds2 who doesnt usually like cooked vegetables will eat sprouts

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 02/12/2018 10:57

I love them. Even a bit over cooked they're delicious.

NotAnotherFeckingMuftiDay · 02/12/2018 10:57

Apparently Iceland do marmite flavoured brussel sprouts. I don't have an Iceland near me so do you think that they're just brussel sprouts tossed in a melted butter and marmite mixture?
Has anybody tried them and are they as good as they sound?

ChodeofChodeHall · 02/12/2018 10:58

What's a NASALT?

Sprouts are gorgeous, especially when they're overcooked.

The national parsnip conspiracy is another story, though. Nobody really likes parsnips, they are just pretending to be contrary.

PrincessConsuelaBannanaHammock · 02/12/2018 10:59

Cooked in butter and pepper, with bacon lardons and red onion- amazing 😍

Heuschrecke · 02/12/2018 10:59

DP loves sprouts, he'd eat them all year round if he could . So we tend to have sprouts in this house whenever they're available. I'm not so keen ... really not keen, but will have a couple as long as I've made myself another vegetable dish that I like.

Actually, I don't mind them at all if they're finely chopped and used in a stir-fry.

He went away for work for a few days this morning. I will be having red cabbage with my roast chicken later on!!!!

user1471517900 · 02/12/2018 11:00

NASALT = Not all sprouts are like this.

I see they never left. Angry

I love sprouts. One dd loves them and one hates them. My African grey also loves them. What’s not to love?!

LakieLady · 02/12/2018 11:01

Bloody love them. The ones that come on a stalk taste nicer imo.

Best of all are freshly picked, they're one of the vegetables I would grow if I could be arsed.

Mxyzptlk · 02/12/2018 11:01

YANBU if you dislike sprouts.

YABU if you dislike people who like sprouts.

(I can happily cook a whole potful of sprouts and gobble them up myself)

Urbanbeetler · 02/12/2018 11:01

Not All Sprouts Are Like That.
NASALT

They are little green balls of marvellousness.

Ginkythefangedhellpigofdoom · 02/12/2018 11:02

Green beans, I tolerate I wouldn't miss them if they chose to purge their existence.

Il eat them but to be honest I'm not bothered about them, they bore me and they squeak!

They have a constant reappearance in our house though because they and peas are about the only 2 green vegetables dp likes.

They are nicer if you can get them split though.

Spicylolly · 02/12/2018 11:03

Love sprouts! Roasted are lovely but stir fried with onions, garlic and bacon is my favourite 😊

Mxyzptlk · 02/12/2018 11:03

The national parsnip conspiracy is another story, though. Nobody really likes parsnips, they are just pretending to be contrary.

I was once on the end of the queue at a Xmas dinner - plenty of parsnips were left thanks to careful rationing by the servers, but no sprouts! I still haven't got over it. Angry

RayRayBidet · 02/12/2018 11:04

I hate sprouts. My dad also hates them so I wasn't forced to eat them except by an aunt.
Me and dad call them cojones del diablo

TheDustbunny · 02/12/2018 11:04

I love sprouts. I used to hate them, but I learned to love them a few years ago and regularly shred and fry them for pasta dishes, or I often roast a tray of them with garlic and pepper and eat them on their own.

3boysandabump · 02/12/2018 11:04

Not only do I love sprouts but a also have 3 sprout loving children 🙌

foxtiger · 02/12/2018 11:05

I like them very much as long as they're not overcooked. However I'm not as obsessed with them as one friend who will often just have a plate of sprouts and peas for dinner!

onthenaughtystepagain · 02/12/2018 11:05

OP clearly can't cook them ! They should only ever be steamed, like any other leafy vegetable, never let them touch water, remember if you can smell them they're over-cooked. You can then add other bits like bacon if you wish.
They're also very good raw, honestly, grated into a salad or something like coleslaw, same applies to cauliflower which has more flavour raw than cooked.

Ginkythefangedhellpigofdoom · 02/12/2018 11:05

Parsnips especially roasted are bloody lovely!

Don't be dissing my superior to the carrot friends.

Eenymeeny123 · 02/12/2018 11:05

I'm ashamed to admit that not only do I love sprouts but I actually like the frozen ones!!! Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without sprouts😏
