To think nobody actually likes sprouts and it's a huge conspiracy

I did this thread last year but it got ruined by all the NASALTs that troll this forum. Everyone knows they are the worst part of Xmas dinner and take up valuable plate space which could have something tasty instead. Hoping this year that MN has come to its senses.

Here's my recipe for Sprouts Desmondine.

Firstly peel away any blackened leaves and cut out the hard stem, submerging the peeled sprouts in salted water.

Then prepare a wok with two tbsp of coconut oil until lightly smoking.

Shred the salted sprouts then put in the pan.

Look down as they burn, lightly dial the Chinese takeaway and order something nice.

Serve sprouts directly into a the fucking bin and promise never to cook them again.

Bon appetit.

THIS ^^^^^

ToeCleavage · 04/12/2018 01:00

I don’t mind them but my friend genuinely loves them. He has no reason to lie about his sprout love.

Hence YABU

palooka47 · 04/12/2018 01:22

Only psychopaths like sprouts.

1forAll74 · 04/12/2018 01:37

I love sprouts too, they are good with some chopped up bacon bits, and plenty of black pepper. On one of Gregg Wallace's food shows once,he went to a farm place where they had cultivated a smaller, kind of sweeter variety of sprouts, but I haven't come across any of those as yet.

Greensleeves · 04/12/2018 01:45

I made a card about the poor unpopular sprout last year

I may have too much time on my hands Blush

Sorry OP, I ADORE sprouts, always have, even from being a child.

(Have always been weird to be fair)

Bluerussian · 04/12/2018 04:04

I love them with lotsa gravy. Yum.

ToeCleavage · 04/12/2018 04:20

I like them. Don’t get me started on people who slaughter turkeys and then pronounce how much they don’t like the taste but it’s ‘tradition’

EdisonLightBulb · 04/12/2018 07:26

I love them and I buy them as long as I see them in the shops, so those tiny prepeeled and washed ones for a quid for a tiny bag in September, ber. Yes, I buy them. I can eat them lightly steamed with a gravy dinner, al dente and then come Christmas, ooooo, tossed in butter and crispy bacon with chopped chestnuts.

Food of the gods.

Snog · 04/12/2018 08:00

I love sprouts but am not keen on parsnips or turkey!

TheRhythmlessCarolMan · 04/12/2018 10:09

@ToeCleavage good point!

Melamin · 04/12/2018 11:02

I love sprouts and hate turkey.

A friend of mine has two Norfolk bronzes she 'rescued from the Christmas Market'. They are great characters and lay really nice eggs. Her farmer friend said not to buy the usual sort, as they are not built to last Sad

Ngaio2 · 04/12/2018 11:12

I can’t bear even the smell of sprouts cooking — turns my stomach. However, I assist with the Christmas dinner by preparing the fresh sprouts for cooking.
Did eat a sprout last year — a chocolate one!

SarahSissions · 04/12/2018 11:26

Love them! But also not be too boring, but sprouts have actually been bred to be less bitter over the past few decades. So for many people who hated the taste as youngsters, the ones for sale now are not actually the bitter ones they remember

BrightYellowDaffodil · 04/12/2018 11:36

I love sprouts. Especially cold with lots of salt.

delboysskinandblister · 04/12/2018 11:45

delboysskinandblister · 04/12/2018 11:46

BrightYellowDaffodil

definitely cold the next day with Christmas leftovers and cranberry sauce mmmmmm

EerieSilence · 04/12/2018 11:50

I love sprouts. They are delicious when roasted properly.

Satsumaeater · 04/12/2018 12:03

DH and DS like them. I don't. I've tried, but...nope.

I like raw vegetables better than cooked in most cases and like raw cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli stalks (not the flower). But I have tried sprouts every which way and am not keen. The really little ones are ok because they disappear quickly!

I don't like squeaky green beans either.

oh4forkssake · 04/12/2018 12:06

I love 'em. Steamed and then fried with teeny bits of bacon. Amazing.

YABVU OP. sorry.

DH grew them in the garden one year - they were SO delicious.

Silverstreaks · 04/12/2018 12:16

Sprouts are delicious and the necessary component to the best bubble and squeak.

FelicityLemon · 04/12/2018 12:18

Sprouts with some chopped bacon in are delish. Parsnips are Satan's invention and can't even be on my plate lest they contaminate an otherwise tasty meal.

Ngaio2 · 04/12/2018 14:21

I was blessed, having spent my life in the Southern Hemisphere where sprouts aren’t in season at Christmas. Instead we have fresh seasonal veg like new potatoes, carrots, broad beans, peas etc Followed by fresh raspberries, strawberries etc
My first Christmas here I was aghast to see sprouts.Ive spent all my life avoiding them and there they are on the Christmas Dinner table

BrightYellowDaffodil · 04/12/2018 15:48

@delboysskinandblister Hurrah, a fellow cold sprout appreciator!
