To think nobody actually likes sprouts and it's a huge conspiracy

I did this thread last year but it got ruined by all the NASALTs that troll this forum. Everyone knows they are the worst part of Xmas dinner and take up valuable plate space which could have something tasty instead. Hoping this year that MN has come to its senses.

I love sprouts! Xmas dinner wouldn't be right without sprouts!

My DH will only eat then raw and is turning dd to that way of eating too.

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 02/12/2018 13:16

What I don't like about sprouts is all the fiddly preparation required.

I always end up feeling as if I'm Cinderella with a footery, time-consuming fairytale task to complete, sort of like having to make dresses for the ugly sisters from cobwebs.

PermanentlyFrizzyHairBall · 02/12/2018 13:36

Everyone in my family loves sprouts, sautéed in butter and garlic (and sometimes chopped bacon depending on if we have any veggies eating), then add a little water and bouillon powder put the lid on until less firm, take lid off boil off any water and Yum.

Also sometimes roasted then DD some grated hard cheese and mash a little.

Or with some chesnuts sautéed in too.

I'm massively raving sprouts now!

PermanentlyFrizzyHairBall · 02/12/2018 13:37

Lol that should be craving not raving!

SusanneLinder · 02/12/2018 13:38

Sprouts are the best part of a Christmas dinner. Always have them naked but might try pan frying them this year.

Babdoc · 02/12/2018 13:48

I like sprouts but I eat them all winter, so they’re not really special enough for a Christmas dinner in my opinion. My kids prefer grated red cabbage cooked with apples and onion in red wine with clove and cinnamon, as a more festive option.
And to those who say they hate parsnips - try them roasted with honey and black pepper, as a side veg, or roast them with curry spices then liquidise for a tasty soup.

PlinkPlink · 02/12/2018 13:49

Sprouts are amazing 😍😍😍😍 I look forward to them every single year. I even started them early this year in October 😋 yum!

PlinkPlink · 02/12/2018 13:49

What are NASALTs btw?

heathers00 · 02/12/2018 13:51

A baggy overcooked sprout is not much fun but if its cooked right it is a thing of beauty added to a full Christmas dinner.

Celebrate the Sprout Smile

TheRhythmlessCarolMan · 02/12/2018 13:51

As above - what are NASALTs?

Ps. I love sprouts.

gamerchick · 02/12/2018 13:54

You need to tell my husband, he likes sprouts on their own in a bowl as a snack. Sprouts are an essential part of any meal with vegetables in this house.

I prefer sprouts to broccoli and cauliflower any day

Starlight456 · 02/12/2018 13:58

I am currently eating sprouts as I type. Yummmmm

FourFuxxakes · 02/12/2018 14:00

I don't like the overcooked, sloppy, soggy, bitter balls of gas that my mam produces on Christmas day. If I'm remembering right, she started cooking them in about November. The day after bonfire night usually.

I do like sprouts though. They're delicious when shallow fried or roasted with garlic and bacon or blue cheese, Marmite and some brown sugar.

user1471517900 · 02/12/2018 14:01

Not All Sprouts Are The Same.

Sprouts are a problem as a class. People using fictitious individual examples contrary to that doesn't prove anything. Just means this board is infested with weird sprout trolls. Fact.

Moominfan · 02/12/2018 14:02

I love sprouts, some in the oven now

Sprouts cooked in garlic butter and spring onions in a tray. Will add cooked chopped sausages and peppers. Lunch for next two days

user1471517900 · 02/12/2018 14:02

Sorry I mean "Not all Sprouts are like this"

OP posts:
GerdaLovesLiIi · 02/12/2018 14:04

They make me sick. Literally. Every childhood Christmas dinner ruined by my mother's insistence on putting them on my plate.

NO SPROUTS IN MY HOUSE.

(My rabbits don't like them either.)

Loyaultemelie · 02/12/2018 14:31

I absolutely love sprouts! Eat them as soon as they come into season until the last one can't be scrounged from the drills! Roasted, stuffed, stir fried, sprout and parsnip gratin, steamed. Yum. We are having 3 kinds for Christmas dinner this year.
Frozen sprouts however are the work of a very twisted mind and the reason most people hate sprouts.

JustHereForThePooStories · 02/12/2018 14:34

OP, how long have you been sniffing glue? Tilts head

Sprouts are amazing.

Loyaultemelie · 02/12/2018 14:36

@Alfie190 deep frying them Shock how have I never thought of this??? I have done carrots, parsnips and cauliflower (not at the same time but never thought of sprouts!)

ragged · 02/12/2018 14:37

I never ate cooked brassicas until adulthood (parents hated them). Turns out I love them! Sprouts can be amazing. I even enjoyed these recently.

Am not fan of raw, although raw brassicas are everywhere party food where I grew up.

It appears the aversion to sprouts by some people is genetic. I can't stand them!

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 02/12/2018 14:58

I love sprouts! I do have IBS though so no one loves me much after I’ve eaten them but I DON’T CARE. Christmas dinner needs sprouts! I shred them and stir fry them with pancetta and onions - delicious.

NaiceShoes · 02/12/2018 15:02

YABU. They are one of my favourite vegetables.
