To think nobody actually likes sprouts and it's a huge conspiracy

I did this thread last year but it got ruined by all the NASALTs that troll this forum. Everyone knows they are the worst part of Xmas dinner and take up valuable plate space which could have something tasty instead. Hoping this year that MN has come to its senses.

OP posts:
GobbyMcGobshite · 02/12/2018 11:19

I'm with you OP. No sane person can eat a small green ball that tastes of farts and enjoy it. It's all lies. Illuminati or aliens I think.

PerfectPeony · 02/12/2018 11:20

Anyone who hates sprouts is cooking them wrong. They don’t have to taste like mini boiled cabbages. Grin

Sautéed with bacon and chestnuts is the way to go.

Monkeynuts18 · 02/12/2018 11:22

It makes me laugh when people say ‘they’re delicious roasted in butter with chestnuts and bacon with tons of salt and pepper.’ Pretty much any vegetable will taste amazing when lathered In fat, accompanied by meat and seasoned to within an inch of its life. But you’re polishing a turd!

Alfie190 · 02/12/2018 11:23

I could not contemplate Christmas dinner without sprouts, we all love them in my family.

DH and I eat them other than at Christmas and we have been deep frying them, delicious, but we will do something more traditional at Christmas.

redsummershoes · 02/12/2018 11:24

yabu
sprouts ore delicious!
the best way (imo) is lightly fried in butter with breadcrumbs, sugar, cinnamon.
but just boiled (with a little bite left) with a roast and gravy is nice,

GunpowderGelatine · 02/12/2018 11:24

Sprouts chopped and fried with bacon lardons and chestnuts are amazing. Screw you OP and your sproutphobia Wink

PerfectPeony · 02/12/2018 11:25

No monkeynuts just enhancing and bringing out their delicious flavour Grin

I agree ones bought on stalk are way better. Only seen Lidl do that this year?

WheelyCoteClaus · 02/12/2018 11:26

Love love sprouts

BeyondVicious · 02/12/2018 11:28

Not only are sprouts my favourite, but I've managed to produce two children who cry if I have sprouts and they don't!! Grin

LittleMissMarker · 02/12/2018 11:34

he world does seem divided into lovers and loathers of sprouts, rather than "mm, they're okay I suppose" so it might be true.

Well I'm in the "they're OK I suppose" camp. I cook them when they're in the shops. DH tried roasting them but I don't see the point, they just tasted like burnt sprout. If I want a treat then red cabbage simmered sugar and vinegar goes very nicely with turkey.

amusedbush · 02/12/2018 11:35

I LOVE sprouts and eat them all year round. I love them any way but roasted or sautéed with bacon is just 👌🏻

RibbonAurora · 02/12/2018 11:36

OP, like other polarizing topics such as politics, religion and your MIL's questionable child-rearing practices, the issue of sprouts is one best not discussed at the Christmas dinner table.

Just, leave them on the side of your plate, dear, and I'll take them off when no one's looking. No, they didn't touch your roast potatoes, I promise, look, they're nowhere near.

ForalltheSaints · 02/12/2018 11:51

This will be the last year that they are available, as we have voted to take back control and leave Brussels.

I don't like sprouts so will not miss them.

WTFIsAGleepglorp · 02/12/2018 11:54

Boiled and salted like cabbage - Nah.

Apparently, chopped up and stirfried, with a bit of meat and some spice they're OK

Not prepared to find out though. 🤮

HavelockVetinari · 02/12/2018 11:57

Sprouts are alien testicles and rank.

Away with you, sprout-lovers - have you no shame, admitting that on a public forum?? Shock

However - sprouts are a vital part of Christmas dinner, one sprout per annum MUST be consumed by each diner to ensure the other delicious items are properly appreciated in comparison. Them's the rules.

toastfiend · 02/12/2018 11:58

I love them!

Hi, Mum!

bobstersmum · 02/12/2018 11:58

I watched a programme once that was saying whether you will like sprouts or not is predetermined, it's something to do with the way you taste food, to some people they taste lovely, to some they taste bitter and awful, its not something you can change apparently!

VacuousNinny · 02/12/2018 11:59

I love sprouts, I steam mine, mmmm

BoglingToAswad · 02/12/2018 12:02

I hate sprouts. I don't care how many people post that they like sprouts, they must all be trolls who sell sprouts.

I hate sprouts and therefore I cannot understand how anyone else can like sprouts.

Once again, I hate sprouts.

Cheerbear23 · 02/12/2018 12:03

Sprouts are revolting. The fartiest thing known to man 🤢

ChristmasWrappingTheWaitresses · 02/12/2018 12:04

I love sprouts.

A warning about green beans however. I had a large portion that weren't properly cooked and got violent food poisoning from them. I've never been so sick thought I was going to die.

Drogosnextwife · 02/12/2018 12:04

I like them, always look forward to sprouts at Christmas because we don't have them any other time. Sprouts with crispy bacon bits, a little butter and salt and pepper, lovely!

BlackBeltInPresentWrapping · 02/12/2018 12:05

They've got to be cooked properly, but we all love sprouts here, including the DCs.

Sprouts are not just for Christmas.

Sprout flavour crisps, less so.

Drogosnextwife · 02/12/2018 12:05

ChristmasWrappingTheWaitresses

From green beans? Are you sure it wasn't something else?
