To ask how much you really drink?

I've been a bit miserable and found myself drinking more lately on an evening. Having noticed I've decided to really cut back but it got me wondering how much people really drink on a standard evening infront of the tv?

It the house probably about 5 drinks over a mth, I go normally once a mth too and have about 12

Ceilingrose · 01/12/2018 23:17

About half a bottle on either Friday or Saturday. Very occasionally both. I used to drink at least double that, but I succeeded in cutting down a couple of years ago.

Childrenofthesun · 01/12/2018 23:17

I used to be a binge drinker when I was in my 20s but since kids I don't drink much at all, usually a couple of glasses of wine at the weekend. I never drink during the week unless I'm on holiday. I don't even really drink much in a night out as I always drive because where I live taxis aren't that reliable.

A couple of times a year I go for a big night out and it doesn't take much for me to feel completely hammered as my tolerance to alcohol is so low now!

simbobs · 01/12/2018 23:20

2-3 glasses on Friday and Saturday, maybe on Sunday if there is anything left in a bottle. One night in the week if I fancy it, ok, maybe 2. DH had to give up for health reasons. Thought about joining him, but didn't fancy it. We don't go out much, so only drink at home.

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 01/12/2018 23:21

I try not to drink Mon - Thurs but will usually have a few drinks each night over the weekend.
Trying to cut back now as starting winter training with early morning gym visits - feel like shit with a hangover so it's a great motivator to give the booze a miss on one of those nights!

CharltonLido73 · 01/12/2018 23:22

One bottle of wine per week shared with husband, but sometimes he'll have beer so I'll drink more of the wine.
He's working away this week, so drank a bottle of sparkling wine over three nights. I calculated that was nine units, so won't drink any further alcohol for the rest of the week.

Some of the quantities being consumed and mentioned on here are quite scary.
Shock

beeefcake · 01/12/2018 23:31

About 5-10 beers over the weekend

AnotherPidgey · 01/12/2018 23:34

Sporadic light drinker. Can of gin & tonic on an occasional whim. I can go a month without drinking without thinking about it. I can't see the point in me doing something like Stoptober as I may well have 2, 1 or no drinks across a month anyway.

Tonight's been one of my few big boozy nights of the year... a single g&t then two glasses of wine over Christmas dinner on a night out. Grin Any more and I'll start feeling dopey tonight and feel fuzzy in the morning so that's a natural place for me to stop.

DrPlonk · 01/12/2018 23:35

Roughly half a bottle every evening (a bottle shared with dinner.) Maybe more if it's a day off - up to 2 bottles between us.
Judging by everyone elses "honesty" on here that appears to be far too much, but I'm fully functioning and not at all dependant on it - have completely stopped drinking throughout all pregnancies.

90% of the answers to a question like this will be 'a thimble once a decade'.

I drink three bottles of wine a week, don't drink mon-thur at all, so a binge drinker.

IncyWincyGrownUp · 01/12/2018 23:41

Maybe five or six small g&t over the course of a month. If it’s a rare night out (two or three times a year) I might have that in one evening. One rather dreadful evening I managed to put away twice that at an event, but that has never happened before and won’t happen again as climbing stairs in that state was bonkers.

sophisticatedsarcasm · 01/12/2018 23:43

One half a shandy on Christmas Day in honour of my grandad else I don’t drink at all any other time. I grew up with alcoholic grandparents and a borderline alcoholic father so I know that drink don’t solve your problems, just creates more. I just don’t find it fascinating and don’t see the point. You can have fun drinking lemonade 😊

constantlywingingit · 01/12/2018 23:47

@coppercolouredtop perhaps we are very alike. I can do a bottle a night of wine and then some vodkas on top. I can go a long stretch without and be fine, but as soon as I have that first one I just can't stop myself.

constantlywingingit · 01/12/2018 23:48

After Christmas and new year I plan complete sobriety in 2019.

OwlinaTree · 01/12/2018 23:54

Don't drink at home, only when I'm out. This weekend 3 bottles of lager Fri and 4 g and t sat. Most weekends nothing, I have your children so don't go out much.

If I'm on a big night out I'll drink lots, but doesn't happen very often now!

OwlinaTree · 01/12/2018 23:54

Young children not your children!

msnowtybach · 01/12/2018 23:55

Have a look on last nights "what are you drinking thread" if you want genuine non guarded responses!!

SavageBeauty73 · 02/12/2018 00:00

@babysharkah I drink exactly the same 🤷‍♀️

Have a liver function test yearly. Don't miss it when I don't. I just love wine.

Stormwhale · 02/12/2018 09:39

Pg at the moment so none at all, but usually very little. I would say I'm just a social drinker, so a glass of wine at a meal out, or a few glasses at a wedding or party. I very rarely drink at home. I think the only time i fancy it at home is in the height of summer when it's boiling and sitting in the garden watching dd play with an ice cold cider is very nice! I don't enjoy sitting watching tv with a glass of wine, so I just don't do it.

If you RTFT you will see your assumption is wrong.

TeenTimesTwo · 02/12/2018 11:59

The thing is, people answering this thread are self-selecting.

I do worry that the heavier drinkers out there use this kind of thread to 'normalise' their drinking. They see the answers from other heavy drinkers and think 'see I'm not the only one, this is fine', and then see those of us who don't drink much as unusual, self satisfied, boring, or whatever.

tablelegs · 02/12/2018 12:06

I drink on social occasions, engagement parties, weddings, etc. Other than that I don't bother.

MrsMeeseeks · 02/12/2018 12:16

I think that's true about heavy drinkers in general. Every heavy drinker has 'yardstick people' in their lives, about whom they think, 'well X drinks more than me and they seem fine'.

EvaReady · 02/12/2018 12:19

Almost every night - do need to cut down from a health perspective, rarely get drunk - just quietly sip red wine, which I love and never have a hangover or gain weight but I'm a little bit anxious about my liver - but my dad drank an excessive amount for a good 70 years and his liver is in great condition!

carnationmilkcraving · 02/12/2018 12:20

Before I was pregnant about 1/2 a bottle of wine a night for nearly six months
It just sort of built up after the summer and with stress

Now about 1 small or 2 small glasses a week
