I've been a bit miserable and found myself drinking more lately on an evening. Having noticed I've decided to really cut back but it got me wondering how much people really drink on a standard evening infront of the tv?

One or two glasses a night spread out over several hours. I'll start my first class while making dinner and then maybe another during dinner depending if I'm in the mood for it.

We share a bottle of wine on a Friday night and have a small bottle each on a Saturday.

puzzledlady · 01/12/2018 20:14

Bottle of champagne on the weekend. Mulled wine as it’s christmas time.

ivykaty44 · 01/12/2018 20:16

Probably on average once a month a couple of glasses of wine. December I will have more

Soyalatteforme · 01/12/2018 20:18

@NaToth Flowers I’m the same since my Dad died. It stops me reliving the trauma of what he went through when he was dying. I need so much counselling but it’s easier to self medicate.

I drink 1-2 bottles of wine a week. Rarely more than half a bottle of a night so drink 4 nights out of 7 most weeks.

Foamybanana93 · 01/12/2018 20:20

I don’t really ever drink much, however I do love a glass of baileys and ice and managed to polish off a 70cl bottle last weekend over Saturday and Sunday night Grin

BendydickCuminsnatch · 01/12/2018 20:24

Maybe a glass of wine once every couple of months.

adriennewillfly · 01/12/2018 20:25

A couple of strong g&ts on Friday and Sat night, about 4 pints of a nice IPA I'm out on a big one. DH has around 2 small cans. Of lager a week, and maybe a couple of pints if he's out for lunch with workmates (once a month or so). If he's on a night out it's usually 4 to 5 pints (once a month or so). We'll usually get a 500ml carafe of wine if out for dinner.

poglets · 01/12/2018 20:27

Rarely drink at home. When I go out, which isn't often, I mildly over indulge. Grew up with an alcoholic mother so I'm happy with this scenario.

user1471592953 · 01/12/2018 20:29

One unit a month, if that. I don’t like the taste of alcohol. I won’t say I have stopped drinking because that would mean I wouldn’t be able to toast at a wedding for example. It would also no doubt trigger lots of people asking why, saying I’m boring, etc., which no one does now because I just say I don’t drink much or don’t feel like a drink that particular night!

Littleelffriend · 01/12/2018 20:30

Bottle of wine every night sometimes more

Popc0rn · 01/12/2018 20:31

I don't drink at home anymore. Like you I noticed that I was drinking more when I was feeling down and a bit stressed, and it wasn't helping my mood. It didn't seem like a good habit to keep so I stopped buying alcohol for the house and started exercising, which helped my mood loads. I still drink occasionally when I'm out, but not loads and not if I'm feeling down already.

constantlywingingit · 01/12/2018 20:31

@coppercolouredtop I drink similar amounts to you. I can easily stop for weeks at a tome and then just fall back in to the same pattern. I need to completely abstain, but I just can't with the thought of Christmas coming up. I've drastically cut down from what I used to drink (think 130-140 units a week previously and now down to around 30-40).

Quitting smoking, no problem. Alcohol? Find it so hard!

constantlywingingit · 01/12/2018 20:32

@coppercolouredtop I meant comparing my current intake to yours, not my previous!

PipGoesPop · 01/12/2018 20:35

Really depends. Sometimes I'll go 3 weeks without a drink and other times I'll have a couple of bottles of wine and a few gins over a weekend.

This week I've had a bottle and a half of red, 3 large G&Ts and 2 glasses of prosecco.

Last week I had nothing.

WatchingTheWheels85 · 01/12/2018 20:40

I drink nothing but water ever Grin

Solina · 01/12/2018 20:41

I don't really drink at home normally even though we have quite a bit alcohol in the house (probably because no one drinks it). I do have a drink sometimes if I go out for a dinner and we do have wine if we have guests over.

Sidalee7 · 01/12/2018 20:42

Usually have a glass of wine when I get in from work. It's a nice wind down to my day.
If I go out out I will drink a few cocktails and a few glasses of wine - but I will feel sooooo rough the next day!

Hofuckingho · 01/12/2018 20:43

Six glasses of wine, a year.

ForalltheSaints · 01/12/2018 20:43

Don't drink at home, perhaps a reaction to having an alcoholic in the family (no longer with us, died at 65).

BackIntoTheSun · 01/12/2018 20:43

Not drank since I had a glass of mulled wine last Xmas. But even when I did drink it was when I went out, never really got the whole 'glass of wine every evening to relax' thing, I'd always prefer a cup of tea

DuggeesWooOOooggle · 01/12/2018 20:47

A bottle of wine would last me 2-3 nights. I like a glass or 2 with dinner, which we eat as early as 5pm. By the time bedtime is over and DS is asleep, it's often nearly 9pm and I am too tired to drink more, by then I just want peppermint tea. Barely ever go out these days.

I used to drink way more but just can't hack it any more and a hangover these days makes me feel extremely ill. Thankfully DH is not a big drinker - he'll have a bottle of beer maybe once a month which he's likely to share. If he was a boozer I'd probably be much much worse. I have had times when I know I have been drinking too much and while being a mum and family life can be a bit dull at times I know it has stopped me from drinking myself into poor health.

I do enjoy a drink though - a fruity red with some tangy blue cheese, crisp white topped up with soda water and tons of ice on a hot day, a warming drop of whisky on an evening. Might go and have a dram now!

DowntonCrabby · 01/12/2018 20:47

Too much.
Maybe 2-3 of bottles a week of wine. DH has less than a bottle of this due to work.
We also have a 70cl of gin a month, split evenly.
I can happily go 2/3/4 weeks with nothing but get “on it” during holiday periods.

I’m planning on having several 4 week and one 8 week break in 2019.

MrsMeeseeks · 01/12/2018 20:48

DH and I used to get through about 10-12 bottles of wine and 6-8 cans of lager a week at home, plus more on -benders- nights out. We quit when we had our DC as we both had alcoholic parents and didn't want our kids to go through the same misery. I envy people who can just have a glass or two: I have never been able to do that. As soon as I started on the first glass, I was already thinking about the second.
