To ask how much you really drink?

I've been a bit miserable and found myself drinking more lately on an evening. Having noticed I've decided to really cut back but it got me wondering how much people really drink on a standard evening infront of the tv?

I don't drink every night though, maybe open a bottle once a fortnight, once a week if I'm in the mood.

KonaMum · 01/12/2018 20:50

Nothing. Have a three month old baby, the last time I had anything to drink was probably the night he was conceived on holiday! (All inclusive cocktails 😬) But even before he was born it would only be a very seldom G&T or glass of wine at a social event.

Xmasbaby11 · 01/12/2018 20:50

I like wine and may drink up to a bottle a week over 2 nights.

KonaMum · 01/12/2018 20:51

Actually I lie, I had one glass of Prosecco at our wedding when I was pregnant!

Shopgirl1 · 01/12/2018 20:51

I didn’t think i was a big drinker, but compared to some replies I’m thinking maybe I am. I never drink during the week, would usually have a glass of wine Friday and Saturday night, although not always, DH was away last night so I didn’t bother, but will have one this evening when my kids are in bed and may have another with Sunday lunch tomorrow to finish the bottle.

southnownorth · 01/12/2018 20:52

Too much compared to Mumsnetters. Half a bottle of wine most nights, a few vodka shots at the weekend.

christmaschristmaschristmas · 01/12/2018 20:52

Around a small G&T a month.

Would like to drink more but my stomach doesn't tolerate it well.

Monestasi · 01/12/2018 20:53

OP, the heavy drinkers aren’t around on a Saturday night.

I am one of those according to the average intake on this thread.

I hate the units guideline. I don’t adhere to it, nor do I care.

I’ve yet to fail my children, work, or get arrested as a result.

I would like to like wine and Gin less than I do, alas I can’t.

NerrSnerr · 01/12/2018 20:55

Before my first pregnancy I drank too much. Probably a bottle of wine on Friday and 5 or 6 pints on Saturday. I have never drunk on work nights though. I now have two children who don't sleep so rarely drink. It's probably one pint a month or so. Over Christmas I'll have s bit more. Can't handle hangovers at the moment so won't get drunk.

Ragwort · 01/12/2018 20:56

I have 2-3 glasses of wine most nights, I try to have a night or two off each week but don’t always. DH probably drinks more.

CatherineCawood · 01/12/2018 20:57

I gave up alcohol totally 299 days ago (I did have to look that up I'm not counting the days off!). Pre 299 days ago at worst it was 3 bottles of wine a week. Decided it was too much so stopped.

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 01/12/2018 20:58

Friday and Saturday a few wines or beers, occasional dram, hardly ever drink during the week. Will drink more if going to a party or big night out but that’s every few months or so. I used to drink a fair bit more but it hits me harder now and I hate wasting the weekend on a hangover.

GruciusMalfoy · 01/12/2018 21:14

There's not really a pattern for me. I can go for months without having any alcohol, or I can have a couple of bottles of wine per month. I don't think about it much, and buying a bottle isn't part of my regular routine.

Doilooklikeatourist · 01/12/2018 21:19

3 or 4 glasses of wine a night ( no alcohol on Monday Tuesday or Wednesday though )
Loves a big glass of wine ❤️

BG2015 · 01/12/2018 21:19

I have 2 drinks on Friday and 2 on a Saturday night - usually 1 bottle of wine (over the 2 nights) or Bacardi.

Can't drink like I used to and don't drink during the week.

BasinHaircut · 01/12/2018 21:25

I’m actually giving alcohol up completely in 2019 I think.

We don’t drink at home, I wouldn’t drink on a work night because of digestive issues, but if I drink on a night out it’s always to excess and the next day I suffer physically and mentally. It’s hardly ever worth it.

allyourcats · 01/12/2018 21:26

Around 50 units a week. I drink every other night (more some weeks when my depression and anxiety are bad). I'm aware I have a problem. Lots of alcohol addiction in my family. Sometimes I stop for a while. Last year or so it's been at this level though. Hope to combat it altogether soon.

Mammylamb · 01/12/2018 21:28

Honestly: very little. I can go months without drinking and then have a few over a week and then none again for months. But, I have had jaundice and liver blockages due to gallstones being stuck in my bile duct so I am a bit paranoid about doing any liver or pancreas damage

Howhot · 01/12/2018 21:30

6-8 units once or twice a week. I stopped recently and lost 8lbs without trying Blush so I know it's no good for my weight as well as my liver. I'm pregnant now but will be aiming to drink less in the long term.

WonderTweek · 01/12/2018 21:30

I'm pretty good these days and only have 1-2 nice whiskies a week. Before I had my son my husband and I used to enjoy getting a bit pissed at weekends whilst listening to music, but now we're both knackered so lost interest. 😂I do enjoy a good whisky whilst taking a bath though.

Youmadorwhat · 01/12/2018 21:34

Nothing...I haven’t drank in nearly 2 years

EleanorLavish · 01/12/2018 21:38

This thread is definitely not what I experience in real life!
An awful lot of people I know have a glass of wine or two most evenings.
And a few drinks each night at the weekend.
I don’t drink every week, maybe 2 drinks in a sat night once a month. But when I go out it’s usually to go “ out out” and that’s every 4-6 weeks.
Then I’ll have about 6 drinks and spend the next day regretting it!Grin

nameuseroriginal · 01/12/2018 21:38

Half a bottle every other night.

Very rarely go on nights out binge drinking though.

moredoll · 01/12/2018 21:39

Not much tbh. Tonight it feels like not nearly enough. I might nip out and get a bottle of brandy so I can have a brandy and coke. We only have wine in and I don't want to open a bottle.

MemoryOfSleep · 01/12/2018 21:41

Nothing at all. But that's due to breastfeeding. Before pregnancy, probably a cocktail or two once every couple of months, if that. My opinion is that if you ever feel you need a boozy drink, you're too dependent on alcohol.
