To ask how much you really drink?

I've been a bit miserable and found myself drinking more lately on an evening. Having noticed I've decided to really cut back but it got me wondering how much people really drink on a standard evening infront of the tv?

One vodka and lemonade or coke once the kids are in bed. Most nights. Just one though apart from Fridays when I have a couple.

Witchesandwizards · 01/12/2018 22:22

I rarely drink at home and never during the week. That said, I enjoy drinking when I go out or when we’re on holiday, and as I’m a bit of a lightweight I always get drunk. I drink every day on holiday and go out 1-2 times a month, more at Christmas.

Letsmoveondude · 01/12/2018 22:26

not often enough to gauge really, im afraid, however we do go through stages where we might have a pint or two of cider infront of the telly (party animals that we are!) maybe 3 nights that week, then not look at alcohol for months after.

I think its fairly normal to have 1-2 per evening though for many others.

BlueJava · 01/12/2018 22:28

I don't drink any alcohol, just water or herbal tea or ginger tea.

coppercolouredtop · 01/12/2018 22:33

jeez i think i may have an issue

but so do most i work with in that case.

i can easily down a bottle a night if i let myself. and if i let myself i have that and a couple of baileys too or a cocktail!

normal for me is 3 glasses of wine a night. or a bottle. with 2 days off in 10 and less when OH is home to nag me about it

i am able to go without with no ill affects at all.
but tonight i had 3/4 bottle of wine (i deliberately put some into a casserole so i couldnt drink it!)
and baileys.

tomorrow i will have less because i dont finish work till 11pm and ill go to the gym after work so ill probs have 2 glasses of wine when home

i think to cut back i would need to abstain completely. i cant seem to moderate.

MrsJBaptiste · 01/12/2018 22:39

A couple of bottles of wine a week.

If I see the girls or we're at a party then far too much - a couple of cocktails, a bottle or more of fizz, a couple of guns to finish - but that's only every few months or so!

tryingtosortmylifeout · 01/12/2018 22:43

Far too much. I need to cut back.

Popc0rn · 01/12/2018 22:45

If anyone's interested seeing how their drinking compares!

SleepingBooty · 01/12/2018 22:45

2-3 medium to large glasses of wine Fri & Sat. It used to be Red but I've switched to Rose as Red gives me more of a hangover lately. I'm hurtling towards 40 and have to watch myself as it's an easy habit to slip into. Dh barely drinks and makes me feel like I have drink problem by having a drink on a weekend.

Notjustanyone · 01/12/2018 22:45

I went teetotal about 4 months ago. No particular reason I just stopped fancying having a drink. I also love being able to drive myself home on nights out!

coppercolouredtop · 01/12/2018 22:57

im dying of shame here with my bottle a night habit....

BentNeckLady · 01/12/2018 22:58

Nothing now. I used to drink far too much.

JaceLancs · 01/12/2018 23:00

Far too much!

MakeMineALarge1 · 01/12/2018 23:01

Far too much

JaceLancs · 01/12/2018 23:01

Some nights I have a couple of gins
Other nights nothing
I have been known to knock back half s bottle of spirit when stressed

ChristmasWrappingTheWaitresses · 01/12/2018 23:03

I had a gin and tonic this evening. Friday half a bottle of prosecco as out for a birthday meal.

Often nothing at all except for tea.

But on holiday probably every night I'd have a couple of drinks.

I'm a social drinker. I rarely drink at home.

Huffabook · 01/12/2018 23:03

Never usually. Maybe once a month at most 😬

notsohippychick · 01/12/2018 23:05

I don’t. I don’t drink.....

But I’m no saint, not holier than though. I love booze and that’s the problem! Used to drink over 100 units a week for years- apart from in pregnancy. A functioning alcoholic if you will. But then, I wasn’t really functioning!

8 months in, my life is so different. I still miss it but I just can’t touch it again x

Proseccoagain · 01/12/2018 23:07

Small glass of sherry to watch Eggheads! Large glass of wine with dinner; same at weekends plus after-dinner drink Saturday and Sunday.

Cuzcothellama · 01/12/2018 23:08

I don't really. About once a month on a Friday or Saturday night I will have a few g&ts. Or, like today, a bottle of wine and now on the amaretto and coke! hic

littlepeas · 01/12/2018 23:08

I’m all over the place - the only thing I do regularly is 3 or 4 bottles of beer on a Friday night with dh. A lot of weeks that will be all I drink - if I’m socialising a lot or on holiday it will be more. I never really get drunk though, as I don’t enjoy it.

easielouisie · 01/12/2018 23:12

Quite varied replies, I expected most to say a couple of glasses a night. Moderation seems like a tough one, I can go weeks without then have a bottle a night, and I am atm. Partner never drank but seems to be drinking more and more too, think I'm a rubbish influence. He works late most nights and it's just become routine to cook with a glass, bath with a glass, TV with a couple more, then the bottles gone! Oops!

I think that's what's clicked I need to pack it in, finishing a bottle of wine on my own and still wanting more. And I'm getting more podgy.. 😂 Seems like a lot are in a similar boat. Tbh I really don't want to cut it out altogether though, maybe we need a system to moderate (or some self control)

fAR too much. A bottle of wine on Friday, sat and sunday nights. 2 or three vodkas on top other nights.

Did dry Jan and carried on to 100 days this year, but its all fallen apart.

Narya · 01/12/2018 23:13

I used to drink quite a lot but reduced while ttc and stopped totally while pg. Now DS is 10 months and I only drink at weekends, probably 2 smallish glasses of wine on a Fri and Sat night and one on Sunday night.

ohhelpohnoitsa · 01/12/2018 23:13

Nothing here, at all. Not a permanent teetotal necessarily, not opininated or judgemental, I just choose not to drink , same for the past 18 years.
