So many threads about in laws and Christmas. Is there nobody out there who wants to see the in laws at Christmas.

OP posts:
AnneLovesGilbert · 30/11/2018 22:02

My husband. He’s very lucky in his in laws Grin

JohnLapsleyParlabane · 30/11/2018 22:02

I love mine. We alternate staying home with going to them. When we go to them, my parents and the cat come too.

PlaymobilPirate · 30/11/2018 22:03

Me! We were due to go to PIL for Xmas and I really wanted to stay at home. We invited them and I'm overjoyed that they said yes. They're not the 'loving' type but I love them and will be happy to spend the day with them

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 30/11/2018 22:03

Me! I love my in laws. It’s my own parents that it is massively stressful to see Sad.

FireworksAndSparklers · 30/11/2018 22:03

My DH loves spending time with my parents! Unfortunately neither of us love spending time with his Confused

Boyskeepswinging · 30/11/2018 22:05

Not me. I put up with it every year through gritted teeth. Have tried to breakaway on our own but the grief I got was unreal. So I have now managed to get it down to arriving very late on Christmas Eve and having a very early night on Christmas Day as we leave at the crack of dawn (or before) on Boxing Day.

pallisers · 30/11/2018 22:05

We get on great with inlaws. Some of my siblings and dh's siblings just spent thanksgiving with us - it was great fun. We have an open invitation to them at christmas too. I prefer being in my own house at xmas.

Chippednails · 30/11/2018 22:07

Me! Mine are awesome and I think I hit the jackpot with them as much as their son did with me Grin

MsSquiz · 30/11/2018 22:07

Me. I have no immediate family (only child, dm died last year, dad never in my life)
Last Xmas was the first without my dm so DH and I stayed home for lunch and visited his immediate family at tea time (his parents, his bro, SIL and 3 kids, his sis and BIL) which made it easier on me

This year we are having Xmas lunch with all of the above plus SIL's parents and her brother. It will be 12 adults and 3 kids and I'm really looking forward to the total distraction of the kids on Xmas day

Zippyzoppy · 30/11/2018 22:08

Me! I hate all the in-law bashing threads on here.

ShowOfHands · 30/11/2018 22:08

Yep. I have my parents here for Christmas Day because my Ma works on boxing day. Boxing day we go to the ILs. It'll be MIL, FIL, 3xSILs, 2xBILs, GMIL, GFIL, DH's great aunt and my nephew. I adore every last one of them.

Idontmeanto · 30/11/2018 22:08

I do like seeing mine. Can be hard work but it wouldn’t be Christmas without them.

pinkhorse · 30/11/2018 22:08

Yes, I love mine to bits. I spend as much time with them as possible.

Switcherpoo · 30/11/2018 22:08

I love my in-laws too! Best. Christmas. Ever.

Fatted · 30/11/2018 22:09

I don't mind it either way. We generally only spend a couple of hours with my family or the in laws on Christmas though. I might feel different if I had to stay over for days! Even with my own family!

We also don't eat dinner at the in laws. I really cannot stomach their cooking, with everything boiled to a slop.

Justwaitingforaline · 30/11/2018 22:09

Me! I love mine so much that we live with them Wink we’ve also invited my DM and DGM for Christmas Day, everyone just loves everyone and it’s really bloody lovely.

SillySallySingsSongs · 30/11/2018 22:09

Me

BishBoshBashBop · 30/11/2018 22:10

I am. We get on really well.

Elphie54 · 30/11/2018 22:10

I am. They graciously invite my family to their for Christmas (my brother and sis in law as well). They love doing the huge Christmas dinner thing and my DM loves no longer having to come haha. My family does New Years party and invites them and they accept every year. I’m glad they are are as wonderful as they are.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 30/11/2018 22:10

Me! DMIL is an amazing amazing cook and DFIL helps play with the twins so we get time off. Hurray!

Shednik · 30/11/2018 22:10

Me! Dh and I are separated and I'm delighted that I'm still invited to the in laws. I love spending Christmas with them.

CherryPavlova · 30/11/2018 22:11

I don’t really mind. They’re old. Its my husband’s mother and my children’s grandmother. It would be a pretty poor show to celebrate Christmas without being willing to show some kindness to others.

Yerroblemom1923 · 30/11/2018 22:11

I'm Always jealous of people with nice in laws! My dH is lucky as my parents love him, sadly the MIL hates me and is v grumpy and hard work. We tolerate each other for the sake of my dd and dh but that's as good as it gets!

IJustLostTheGame · 30/11/2018 22:11

Nope.
I start drinking at 6:30am.
Nailed it.

Oobis · 30/11/2018 22:12

Nope. FiL narcissist. We have to wait for him to fall asleep after excess food and drink before anyone else bothers trying to speak.
