to think that Labour's stance on moped ramming is stupid

The Metropolitan Police have been knocking over moped muggers with their cars, and releasing the footage as a deterrent. It's a fantastic idea which has cut moped crime dramatically.

Predictably, the Shadow Home Secretary has said 'it shouldn't be legal for anyone'.

Why is Labour's instinct always to side with the scumbag criminals over the victims, the police and the decent people?

OP posts:

why this tactic is lawful

That's the irony. It's Not lawful. It's the very definition of dangerous driving. Police could well be prosecuted for doing it.

It worries me when we have a police force that uses "the means justified the end" as a reason to break the law

FissionChips · 29/11/2018 13:27

And your compassion for the scumbags is terrible, are you or your family involved in this type of activity?

Ooh, you got be there! How did you know I’m the head kingpin of the uk’s largest moped gang? Sell crack on the side too.

Nicknacky · 29/11/2018 13:28

Of course it’s lawful!

Hesta54 · 29/11/2018 13:28

GreenEggsHamandChips It should be made lawful, the police should be able to use what force they think is necessary

TwistedStitch · 29/11/2018 13:29

Haha AtlasShrugged. I've seen MN threads not far off that description! Still remembering the OP whose elderly mother was terrified that a man had broken into and appeared to be hiding in her shed. Apparently she should have been cooking meals for the poor chap. And then there was the aggressive abusive woman in the public toilet who was frightening an OP's child. She should have given her a hug and offered her a creme egg.

Hesta54 · 29/11/2018 13:29

FissionChips I thought so, because I cannot understand your attitude to criminals other wise

FissionChips · 29/11/2018 13:31

I thought so, because I cannot understand your attitude to criminals other wise

Are you 12? Grin

Hesta54 · 29/11/2018 13:31

Wouldn’t it be good if the criminals only picked on the people that are very sympathetic to them, it would make life so much easier for us and them

doubleshotespresso · 29/11/2018 13:32

There’s no suggestion that anyone is targeted by colour or for any other bad reason.

Are we seriously expected to accept reassurances from the Met Police on this subject with everything we have seen reported in recent years? Seriously?

TwistedStitch · 29/11/2018 13:32

It is lawful. Tactical contact to terminate a dangerous pursuit is a legal power the police have.

jasjas1973 · 29/11/2018 13:33

This isn't a sentence, it's a harm reduction tactic and it IS reducing crime

You don't know that. do you really think these people will go back to playing quietly in their bedrooms with a pack of cards and a famous five book?
no, they'll continue doing other equally anti social criminality.

You simply cannot take 10k police off the streets of London, get rid of youth centers and community policing and expect no consequence.

its not excusing their despicable behavior but there is cause and effect.

KissingInTheRain · 29/11/2018 13:33

That's the irony. It's Not lawful. It's the very definition of dangerous driving. Police could well be prosecuted for doing it.

Oh Jesus. Of course it’s lawful - unless the police behave in a way that’s arbitrary or outside the use of reasonable force.

Wrestling a person to the ground, handcuffing them and locking them in a van is unlawful in about 20 ways unless doing so is justified by the law and circumstances.

Which is exactly what justifies knocking over identified suspects of violent crime fleeing on mopeds.

Hesta54 · 29/11/2018 13:33

FissionChips I wish I was,

Hesta54 · 29/11/2018 13:36

jasjas1973 Why oh why is taking away youth Centers used as an excuse for young people to carry out crimes,
I know, I’ve got no youth center, I think I’ll do a bit of mugging instead, seems fair

TwistedStitch · 29/11/2018 13:37

You don't know that

Yes I do, because I read about stuff before I post factual claims. Operation Venice has reported a 44% drop in these types of crimes.

oldwhyno · 29/11/2018 13:38

I think it's okay providing it's only ever done with the cameras rolling, so judgement can be scrutinized.

IggityZiggityZoom · 29/11/2018 13:38

They have no other way to catch them. The escalation in london of these types of crimes is unbelievable. I've had to dive over a wall with my 5 month old strapped to me to avoid one of the fuckers. It's needs must.

Londongirl79 · 29/11/2018 13:39

I’m 100% behind the police on this,

Why do people on this thread keep mentioning black people ?

My business where I also live has been attacked NINE times by these moped robbers at least 4-6 men at a time with axes, sledgehammers & concrete fence bases & not one of them has been black😬

Just around the corner from us a young father was savagely stabbed by similar gangs for a watch !

iggity That’s shocking! Poor you

londongirl Again that’s dreadful and I despair that people can read about both your experiences and not agree that action has to be taken to get on top of this.

Polarbearflavour · 29/11/2018 13:41

When one of the thieves dies, their mum will be on the television saying “he was such a good boy” and suing the met.

Don’t be a thief and you won’t get killed.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 29/11/2018 13:42

In a civilised society the sentence for mugging isn't someone maiming or killing you without trial

This ^^ I've no more sympathy for the offenders than anyone else, but tempting as it is, I honestly don't think this is the way to handle things

AtlasShrugged · 29/11/2018 13:43

Why do people on this thread keep mentioning black people ? because SJWs are actually racist and impose a tyranny of low expectations on BAME people.

Hesta54 · 29/11/2018 13:43

Londongirl79 I’m very sorry to here this, but what you’ve got to understand is, it not their fault they are probably didn’t have any opportunities growing up and there local youth center was closed down, and the local police properly asked them to stop nicely

Hesta54 · 29/11/2018 13:45

Puzzledandpissedoff In a civilised society, people wouldn’t be being mugged etc
