to think that Labour's stance on moped ramming is stupid

The Metropolitan Police have been knocking over moped muggers with their cars, and releasing the footage as a deterrent. It's a fantastic idea which has cut moped crime dramatically.

Predictably, the Shadow Home Secretary has said 'it shouldn't be legal for anyone'.

Why is Labour's instinct always to side with the scumbag criminals over the victims, the police and the decent people?

Nah, just wait 10 years to sort this problem out 🤔

No, I’m with the police on this one, knock them off. It’ll serve the robbing bastards right.

rubisco · 29/11/2018 00:06

I agree with you, OP. This is a good policy, and publicising it is a great idea.

I understand people take off their helmets thinking that will protect them from being knocked off their scooters. More fool them.

Birdsgottafly · 29/11/2018 00:07

"The next person the mugger attacks is going to be your child. Or your parent."

Or the next person who is going to be killed when the Moped rider loses control and mounts a pavement, or skids across the road, or deliberately goes up a one way street, could be your child, or parent.

Or what if it was your child on the back of the moped and they weren't mugging, but fucking about and the Police got it wrong and they were disabled for life?

Pieceofpurplesky · 29/11/2018 00:09

What's the old saying - two wrongs don't make a right!

CheshireChat · 29/11/2018 00:10

This will carry on right up until they injure/ kill an innocent and then the police officers will be at fault (and they'll have to live with it).

This is a terrible policy IMO- what they need to tackle it is more officers on motorbikes so they can catch up to the fuckers, without having to run them over!

FissionChips · 29/11/2018 00:10

What other crimes should we allow the police to dole out physical punishment (maybe even death), before the perpetrator has even gone to court, for?

It’s maddness that so many on this thread think it’s a good ideaConfused .

CheshireChat · 29/11/2018 00:11

This is also why the police sometimes don't pursue cars in high speed chases as it's not safe for everyone else.

JamieAndTheSugar · 29/11/2018 00:12

Courts judge then sentence criminals not police officers.

CheshireChat · 29/11/2018 00:13

Oh, and IIRC it's not the officers call, but the control room's as they were concerns that due to adrenaline etc the field agents might make the wrong call.

AmateurDad · 29/11/2018 00:14

Er, you don’t “know” they’re criminals until they’ve been convicted...

Longdistance · 29/11/2018 00:14

If you play with fire, you’ll get your fingers burnt 🤷🏼‍♀️

CheshireChat · 29/11/2018 00:14

there not they

AornisHades · 29/11/2018 00:20

This is more about LFN's visceral hatred of socialism than any concern for the victims or indeed the alleged muggers.

Stompythedinosaur · 29/11/2018 00:22

The whole point of human rights is that you can't ignore them when you want to, that are rights everyone has.

I think deliberately hurting criminals (when it isnt to protect people) comes under "two wrongs don't make a right".

doubleshotespresso · 29/11/2018 00:22

I am stunned so many here consider this to be progress. As far as I can see the Met have just appointed themselves Londons' biggest gang of thugs.

Anybody here agreeing has utterly overlooked the increased risk to public safety when this method goes horribly wrong and some poor innocent bystander pays the price for a moments lost Met judgement. This is hideous in its' connotations it really is.

worridmum · 29/11/2018 00:24

but how can courts sentence people if you cannot catch the fuckers because mopeds can easily get away from police.

So basically you are giving free reign to criminals to keep acting with impunity with mopeds unless you think they should be outright banned because phesable how else are you going to catch the fuckers?

goldiehawn1 · 29/11/2018 00:24

Beanbag lady , you cannot be serious
🙈🙉🙊

Are you really suggesting that these scumbags who are running feral on our streets should have 'rights' when they stab, murder, rob, innocent victims?

And as for the poster that seems to think it's ok to rob people because they are 'well off' - well that just proves we live in a broken society where the rights of victims are eclipsed by the supposed rights of the instigators.

If a crime was committed upon you, any of your loved ones or indeed you witnessed a crime yourself, you would not have these bonkers and quite frankly dangerous views.

garethsouthgatesmrs · 29/11/2018 00:25

But they should have full immunity against any injury to criminals

would you be saying the same if your child was accused of a crime and badly beaten by a police officer before they were even tried? Are there specific crimes that this would be appropriate for or is everyone who has broken the law(or is accused) fair game.

I suppose they could just start routinely beating homeless people because they have probably used drugs and might well be thieves too.

Actually why dont they just beat everyone they don't like up and then claim they thought they had committed a crime? There's a reason people are innocent until proven guilty.

llangennith · 29/11/2018 00:25

Let's be realistic. If you're a Labour supporter you'll be 'outraged'. If you support Conservative 'it's a good idea'.
Anything that curbs antisocial and criminal behaviour is fine by me.

worridmum · 29/11/2018 00:26

honestly how can you think police can catch moped criminals if they are banned from knocking them off the mopeds?

Honestly how do you thing they can do it?

JamieAndTheSugar · 29/11/2018 00:26

but how can courts sentence people if you cannot catch the fuckers because mopeds can easily get away from police.

Give the police better mopeds.

FissionChips · 29/11/2018 00:30

honestly how can you think police can catch moped criminals if they are banned from knocking them off the mopeds?

How they normally do it. It’s not as if moped criminals don’t get caught Confused.

KringleBells · 29/11/2018 00:30

Bit too Judge Dredd for my liking.

How long before some poor guy delivering pizza in the same street gets side swiped by mistake?

Nope, higher taxes, more coppers. You don’t get a decent society from a 20% tax rate.

doubleshotespresso · 29/11/2018 00:37

Anything that curbs antisocial and criminal behaviour is fine by me.

Running kids down in a high powered vehicle is not anti-social or criminal then?

If any one of us did this we would rightly be charged with reckless driving, possibly manslaughter

citiesofbismuth · 29/11/2018 00:39

Sounds like the sort of thing they'd do in Columbia. How odd.
