To think that parents who don't vaccinate their children are despicable

Just that. And I think they ought to be sanctioned in some way similar to in Australia. Children shouldn't suffer because of parents' stupidity

Absolutely. Full on selfish and misinformed behaviour not having your child vaccinated.

BakedBeans47 · 24/11/2018 08:26

YANBU. They are selfish fuckers. Obviously people who can’t vaccinate for health reasons are different and why it’s even more important for everyone who could be vaccinated to be so.

ElBandito · 24/11/2018 08:28

Bittermints actually the increase in allergies is now thought to be because weaning is at 6 months and we should at least be giving tiny tastes of food to infants earlier. In countries where they no longer follow the strict 6 months rule the level of allergies in children is falling. I believe Australia is one of these countries where allergy rates are improving.

BakedBeans47 · 24/11/2018 08:30

Any parent who did not vaccinate did not do so on a whim it was after a lot of research

What research is this, then? You do realise that “googling” isn’t “research”?

CloserIAm2Fine · 24/11/2018 08:30

YANBU

I do agree that vaccinations should be required to attend nursery or school. Obviously children who can’t be vaccinated for medical reasons would be exempt.

It’s not about “belief” it’s about scientific fact. And those who choose to ignore it are putting their children and others at risk of severe illness and death.

OffToBedhampton · 24/11/2018 08:34

This is doing rounds shared on FB from poster in GP surgery.

I thought it carried a strong message.

To think that parents who don't vaccinate their children are despicable
ThroughThickAndThin01 · 24/11/2018 08:35

Totally agree with your post Beaver.

BlaaBlaaBlaa · 24/11/2018 08:35

@flamingJuno I've asked that question before and it's surprising (or not) how hypocritical and uneducated anti-vaxxers are. Of course they'd get immunisations if they were travelling to India because those are actually protecting you against dangerous diseases unlike the the vaccination program put in place by the NHS 🙄

There's some interesting research been done on how vaccination information is presented on the internet. The study showed that online information relating to vaccinations was heavily biased towards the anti-vaxx movement and that this information is presented in a way that looks 'official'. It's not difficult to set up a website and make it look academic and medical. Unfortunately that means if people turn to the internet for information ( as they do) they are not being presented with impartial information and are actually bombarded with anti-vaxx messages.

BlaaBlaaBlaa · 24/11/2018 08:38

@stay you really don't understand how vaccinations work do you?

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 24/11/2018 08:40

Yes I agree. Often it is through ignorance and incorrect information that I am finding people don't vaccinate.
I am on Mush, an app for mums to meet other local mums, and I see posts all the time of people asking for advice on whether to vaccinate or not, and then people advising with wrong information. One person said there was a study that said vaccines have only been useful in 20% of babies and has proven dangerous in 70%.
I haven't seen that anywhere, yet someone is spreading that and influencing young mums to not vaccinate.
They should be mandatory, unless there is a medical reason.
Children's health should not be risked because of ignorant or neglectful parents.

TheStoic · 24/11/2018 08:42

My partner’s daughter has autism. His siblings are anti-vaxxers.

He has asked them to look at his daughter and tell him that she is the worst thing that could ever happen to them as parents...worse than contracting a fatal, preventable, illness. Apparently, she is.

CherryPavlova · 24/11/2018 08:42

I wouldn’t say despicable. I’d say I’ll informed or blinkered.

Pinkyyy · 24/11/2018 08:43

I wasn't vaccinated as a child, neither were any of my 3 siblings, until quite recently I didn't actually really we were a tiny minority. Though after reading this thread it seems people think I should lock myself indoors so as not to spread all those diseases I must have

TheProvincialLady · 24/11/2018 08:43

Make child benefit/other benefits relating to children dependent on being fully up to date with vaccines (unless excepted by a qualified medic) and watch the number of vaccinated children rise.

TAMS71 · 24/11/2018 08:43

This pic says it all!

To think that parents who don't vaccinate their children are despicable
Pinkyyy · 24/11/2018 08:43

Actually realise*

Alonglongnight · 24/11/2018 08:47

My kids are vaccinated however I don’t just follow the NHS schedule without any question. They didn’t have rotavirus as after some research it seemed unnecessary. They’ve had everything else but didn’t have the MMR and the 5-in1 and the menB all at the same time. They had the latter 2 about a month following the MMR so their immune systems weren’t bombarded all at once. Right or wrong, it felt right for us. And the second/third injections aren’t actually always ‘boosters’ but there to catch the 5% that weren’t ‘caught’ first time round. So in most children they’re just getting a double dose for no real reason. A blood test can see if they’re immune.

I do believe in vaccine damage and even death, read the inserts to the vaccines, it’s all right there. Look at the court cases, the NHS even have a fund for vaccine damage.

www.gov.uk/vaccine-damage-payment

If the link doesn’t work just google nhs fund vaccine damage. On the eligibility page os a list of the vaccinations they will pay out a lump sum of £120,000 if you have vaccine damage from.

The daughter of a woman I knew died shortly after her MMR vaccination due to encephalitis. It is a side effect on the insert. 1 in a million bit it still happens.

My kids are vaccinated but not blindly. My 3 year old is behind in her speech. She’ll get her pre-school boosters closer to 4 when I can be more confident that anything injected into her system won’t stunt her development. They don’t get the flu jab. It doesn’t cover for every strain and they are fit and well. If they spent a lot of time for example around the elderly maybe I would reconsider.

divadee · 24/11/2018 08:53

I think it's very reasonable to say they can't attend a state nursery or school. They can home educate. Private nurseries and schools can make their own decisions and parents can then make an informed choice. It is selfish not to vaccinate. They rely on the herd immunity to keep their child safe. If we all felt like that then I wonder how the anti vaxxers would feel when their precious children started becoming ill. I'm sure they wouldn't blame themselves but blame everyone else.

ScottishMummy12 · 24/11/2018 08:56

My dd isn’t vaccinated. She had a severe allergic reaction to them at 8 weeks and hasn’t been able to get the rest. I hate threads like this, not everyone is choosing to not get them.

morningconstitutional2017 · 24/11/2018 09:06

I'd worry more about the consequences if I didn't. Surely it's better to avoid illness if at all possible? However, for those poor souls who've taken precautions and have found that the jabs have caused ill health it must be very difficult.

iamthere123 · 24/11/2018 09:08

All those who say they know someone who knows someone who reportedly died/was never the same after vaccines can go and talk to any one over 70. My grandma buried her 6 yo sister in the bridesmaid dress she should have worn to grandmas wedding a few weeks later. My great grandfather kept a lock of her hair and a picture in his wallet for the rest of his life, my great grandma had a breakdown and essentially lost 5 years of her life to grief. Six year old Dickie died of diphtheria - a disease pretty much eradicated today thanks to vaccines. Her parents never got over losing her and neither did my grandma. What would they have done to be able to have vaccinated Dickie? Anti-vaxxers just don’t think of they consequences of their actions.

BlaaBlaaBlaa · 24/11/2018 09:10

@scottish nobody is criticising people who can't have them for medical reasons. It's important those than can have them do so they protect people like your child

KissingInTheRain · 24/11/2018 09:10

I’ve never really understood why anti-vaxxers aren’t sued. If their selfishness leads to the spread of infection that kills or badly damages a child they should be liable. Of course, in many cases it might be impossible to identify the infecting child. But there will be cases where locating the source is possible.

Bankrupting a few idiot anti-vaxx parents with massive damages awards would have a thoroughly beneficial effect on the remaining fools’ attitudes to vaccination.

Unvaccinated children can also be a public nuisance so some criminal penalties for their parents wouldn’t go amiss either.

Candlelights2345 · 24/11/2018 09:11

The herd immunity is what makes it particularly selfish I think. Like their extra special children don't have to risk any side effects because most people do and thus the risks of them catching anything are lower than if no-one vaccinated.

Yes, absolutely fucking selfish. Anti vaxxers want to benefit from herd immunity but don’t fucking contribute towards it. I totally agree with sanctions for those who actively chose not to take these vaccines.
I know someone who’s is blind from measles caught as a child, it’s slowly destroyed the optic nerve, they’ve got 5% vision now. A family member is dead from mumps caught as a child.

Candlelights2345 · 24/11/2018 09:11

Should say deaf not dead.
